Appropriate Census Questions U.S. Census Question

Pueblo of Laguna Question 3. For each person in the home, indicate whether

the person is or is not related to the head of household. For the purposes of this survey, “related” means related by blood, marriage, or legal adoption, only.

◦ “Blood” includes any kind of blood relationship – parent, child, grandparent, aunt/uncle, cousin, etc. Marriage includes legal, traditional, and common law marriage. In-laws are considered related. Marriage also includes same-sex marriage. If a foster child is related by blood or marriage, the child is considered related – but if the foster child is not related by blood or marriage, that child is not considered related. The Pueblo of Laguna recognizes other ways of being related, such as clan and kiva relationships. However, to be able to use the results of this survey, these definitions must be consistent with the definitions used by the federal government. We appreciate your understanding.
