Tradition meets innovation

Shimadzu — a balancemanufacturer since 1918Establish in 1875 in Kyoto, Japan, Shimadzu Corporation is one of the pioneers of scientifi c precision instruments.

Already in 1918 Shimadzu started to produce its own top-pan balances, followed by an equal-beam analytical balance in 1925.

Due to the fact, that weighing was a time-consuming process in the early 20th century, Shi-madzu released a direct reading analytical balance in 1948.

In 1959 Shimadzu also introduced the Roberval mechanism to its toploading balances.

To make instruments more compact and easier, Shimadzu introduced the digital balances in the 70th and in 1977 also the fi rst microprocessor controlled balance.

In 1985 the launch of the next and latest technologies started, thanks to Shimadzu´s patented OPF-technology (one piece forcecell), better known as UniBloc-technology.

Shimadzu balances are today produced under the highest quality standards. Following the Kaizen-procedures, Shimadzu is continously improving its products, too.

UniBloc Technology impoves performances and durabilitiesShimadzu introduced one-piece force cell technology for precision balances in 1989. Today’s UniBloc is created by high-precision electric discharge wire processing applied to a block of aluminum alloy, and replaces the conventional electro-magnetic balance sensor assembly.

UniBloc’s compact, uniform structure ensures stable temperature characteristics, excellent response time and stable corner-load performance.

In addition, the UniBloc design permits a consistency of production that assures reliability and a long operational life.

The updated UniBloc technology expands the UniBloc balance lineup, which now ranges from semi-micro with a minimum display of 0.01 mg to precision platform balances up to 52 kg in capacity.

What is moisture vaporization rate displayIn drying by infrared heater, a large amount of moisture vaporizes in early stage and vaporization slows towards the end of measurement. The M curve in Figure 2 shows a typical vaporization of moisture. M indicates the rate of vaporization. Monitoring M makes it possible to gauge how close the measurement is to completion. The bar graph display makes it visible. (Figure 1)
