I enjoy that, between the days of rainy, wintry weather, in Perth we have glorious sunny days. It has been wonderful to see the students outside, enjoying the sunshine, playing with their friends. We have been providing pavement chalk as an additional engagement activity during the COVID-19 restrictions and some of the messages the students have been creating are heartwarming. School Maintenance You may remember that the State Government announced additional funds for School Maintenance in late 2019. It is important to understand that maintenance refers to items that need to be fixed to preserve the condition of the school. We did get approval to use some of the funds for preventative maintenance, such as the installation of the gate over the D Block alcove area and an additional pathway in the Early Childhood. Other funds were spent stripping back and painting corroding rafters, and as part of this work we were also able to negotiate the painting of verandah posts. The last of the funds went to repairing water damage that has occurred over time to the staff toilets. In some schools, additional funds were allocated for various upgrades, which is different to maintenance works. We are still awaiting the maintenance works allocated to the student toilets in the Senior Block (A Block) and expect this work to be completed by the end of the year. The Department of Education runs a continuous maintenance program to fix any issues as they arise. We report these issues and they are assigned a priority for completion. Please let us know if you see any items that have been damaged or broken so these items can be reported. Cont…. Page 2 Friday 22 May 2020

From the Principal

Hello everyone,

Winter weather has been a feature of life over the last two weeks.

Sustainability News Trash Free Tuesday/Thursday Don’t forget about the added day to our TFT school initiative. Bring along your food on a Tuesday and Thursday in reusable containers and beeswax/material wraps. Help us to reduce our waste and make a difference to our school environment. Imagine how empty our bins would be if we all went trash free! Collection point Do you have any old mobile phones or batteries? Don’t throw them in your bin! Take them to Ms Crawford’s classroom in A2 where they are collected and disposed of correctly. Many thanks. The Sustainability Team

Library News

If your child has an overdue book, a letter is sent home as a reminder. We certainly do not expect payment for the book/s as they usually turn up. The only time we require payment is if the books is lost or damaged and they have been in our library less than five years. I have edited the letter to omit the cost so there is no confusion. I hope this helps clarify things.

I also would like to thank the Frei and Hurley families for the wonderful donation of books last term. They have certainly added to our general and lexile stocks.

Our library roster is: Monday Tuesday Thursday B1 Yr 3 Mrs Springett B4 Yr 4 Mrs Kozak-Calabrese A2 Yr 5 Ms Crawford/Mr Green B6 Yr 4 Mr Carr C1 PP Miss DePalma A4 Yr 5/6 Ms Galati C4 Kindy Blue Mrs Willcocks C2 PP/Kindy Yellow Mrs Gomez A5 Yr 6 Ms Wallace D2 Y 2 Mrs Gilbert D1 Yr 2 Mrs Platts C2 Kindy Red Mrs Gomez D3 Yr 1 Mrs Allison/Mrs Heard C4 Kindy Green Mrs Knight D4 Yr 1 Mrs Robinson/Mrs Palumbo

If students have finished reading their books before their next library class they are welcome to change them before and after school when I am at my desk or at lunchtimes on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.

Thank you.

The kids have been adjusting to the new rules here at OSHClub and have begun to get inventive with creating new and interesting games. The kids have been playing “minute to win it” challenges that test their movement and knowledge skills. We have also been doing different daily fitness and created some interesting fitness obstacle courses and challenges. Jemma Phillips Coordinator
