I have heard many compliments from seniors and community members alike. This year was definitely a cold one and I know all of the indoor trick or treat options were appreciated. Tuesday November 12th, we will be hosting Bingo for the long term care residents! I invite you to come and enjoy this outing with them here at the senior center. We will start at 2:30, and will have prizes for winners! Then Thursday, November 14 th , we have the opportunity to go play bingo at the senior center in Syracuse at 9:00 A.M., and stay and have lunch. This would be a fun time to check out their senior center and see what all they have to offer. If you would like to go on Thursday, please call or stop by to sign up to ride the bus so we have an idea of how many are going. We have two board member terms ending this year that will need to be filled. The board meets for about 2 hours each month, and plans around 2 fundraisers each year. If you think you might be interested, please stop by the senior center and see what being a board member entails! The V.A. representative will be here November 12 th from 9:30-11:30, no appointment necessary. The building is available to rent for your next party, bridal or baby shower, family gathering or event. Brought to you by • CHS United Plains Ag • First FarmBank • Greeley County Republican Kansas is Reading to Preschoolers A statewide initiative encouraging early childhood literacy TOPEKA — The State Library’s one-book/one-state reading initiative, Kansas Reads to Preschoolers, highlights the importance of reading to children with a goal that every Kansas child from birth to age five is read to during the week of November 10-16. One age-appropriate book is selected for storytime in libraries, preschools, childcare centers and homes throughout Kansas. I Like Myself!, by Karen Beaumont, is the chosen title for the 15 th annual selection. Kansas librarians have pooled together learning resources and tools that will be shared throughout the state during the entire month of November. “Local libraries play a big role in early childhood learning. As Kansas Reads to Preschoolers continues to grow each year, our hope is that more children will discover the joy of reading,” said State Librarian Eric Norris. Copies of the children’s book, I Like Myself!, have been made available to public libraries throughout Kansas and librarians are preparing to read to Kansas preschoolers during Kansas Reads to Preschoolers Week. Some libraries may have events throughout the month of November. The State Library of Kansas is committed to increasing reading readiness and on-grade reading while promoting reading, literacy and libraries. Bernard Nemechek Tribune, Kansas resident Bernard (Bernie) Nemechek, 90, passed away on October 29, 2019 at the Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune, KS. He was born on November 3, 1928 in Ellis, KS, to parents Frank and Regina Nemecek who have preceded him in death. He married Joyce L. Smith on May 20, 1948 in Sharon Springs, KS. He is survived by his children Trudy and John Thorburn, Buffalo, WY, Brent and Beth Nemechek, Tribune, KS, and Blake and Carmelle Nemechek, Colorado Springs, CO; seven grandchildren, Ryan and Nicole Thorburn, Jenna Thorburn, Amy and Pete Michalczyk, Rhett Thorburn, Nick and Jenifer Nemechek, Andrew Nemechek, Cody Nemechek; and eight great grandchildren, Madelyn, Gabrielle, Addison, Hayden, Peyton, Rylee, Harper and Hadley. Preceding him in death also were his sisters, Rose Martino, Mary Blackburn, and brothers, Joe, Frank and Ernest Nemechek. Bernie was a long time business man in Tribune, KS. He owned and operated Southside Service and retired to Sun City, Arizona where he and Joyce lived for many years. Following a long and wonderful retirement in Arizona, Bernie and Joyce decided to return to Tribune due to declining health. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sun City and the United Methodist Church in Tribune. He volunteered for his church as well as many Sun City community projects. Bernie was laid to rest on November 4, 2019 in the Greeley County Cemetery following graveside services at 11:00 AM MT. Memorials may be designated to the United Methodist Church in Tribune or the Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Kansas is Reading to Preschoolers

TOPEKA — The State Library’s one-book/one-state reading initiative, Kansas Reads to Preschoolers, highlights the importance of reading to children with a goal that every Kansas child from birth to age five is read to during the week of November 10-16.

Bernard NemechekTribune, Kansas resident

Bernard (Bernie) Nemechek, 90, passed away on October 29, 2019 at the Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune, KS.
