MAIER REMAINS IN ORGANIZATION--Outfielder Mitch Maier, who was designated for assignment on July 4, has cleared waivers and has accepted an outright assignment to Omaha (AAA)...the 30-year old is the longest tenured member of the organization, joining the Royals as a first round pick in the 2003 June draft...he has spent the majority of the last 3 1/2 years with the big league club as an extra outfielder.

IMPRESSIVE FRIDAY THE 13TH IN THE SYSTEM--Though things didn’t finish particularly well on the big league side last night, the starting pitchers throughout the organization had a solid Friday the 13th...the group combined to work 41.0 innings allowing 32 hits and 6 earned runs for a 1.32 ERA, while fanning 37...the seven hurlers were a combination of Will Smith at Omaha (AAA), Michael Mariot (AA), Jason Adam (High A), Angel Baez (A), Sam Selman (Rookie), Kyle Zimmer (Rookie) and Miguel Almonte (Rookie)...the seven of them combined for an average age of 21 years old...Smith worked 7.0 innings for Omaha allowing just a run on 7 hits with 6 K’s, while Mariot fired 7.2 shutout frames for Northwest Arkansas, giving up just 4 hits...Adam, the Blue Valley Northwest product, earned his second win with an impressive 7.0 innings giving up a run on 6 hits with 6 K’s and Baez may have had the most dominating performance for Kane County, giving up an unearned run in 6.0 innings on 2 hits with 10 strikeouts...Selman surrendered one earned run in 5.1 frames for Idaho Falls while fanning 7 and 2012 first-rounder Zimmer made his professional debut for the Arizona Rookie League club, tossing 2.0 innings allowing a run on 2 hits with 3 K’s...Almonte finished off the group with 6.0 innings of 2-run work in the Dominican vs. the A’s.

NED’S SECOND FULL SEASON AT THE HELM--The 16th full-time manager in franchise history, Ned Yost, was named to his post on May 13, 2010 and has recorded a 163-210 ledger since taking the reins...he recorded career win #600 on May 21 in Yankee Stadium...this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers (2003-2008)...he compiled a 457-502 record with the Brew Crew including a 166-146 mark in his last two seasons...Yost, a catcher during his playing days, began his coaching career in the Atlanta organization, including 12 straight seasons on Bobby Cox’s big league staff (1991-2002).
