Pirates Versus Mermaids our 2017 musical was a
mind-blowing success, highlighting the remarkable
talents of our students from Kindergarten to Year
6. Our feature artists delivered strong personal
performances that resinated confidence and
dramatic flair. These budding young actors were
supported by their Year 3 and 4 peers who sang with enthusiasm
throughout the production. The very cute Kindergarten, Year 1 and 2
choir opened our musical with some brilliant pirate seafaring songs.
It is also important to acknowledge our wonderful behind the scenes wizards; our lighting and sound assistants, our
props, backdrop and curtains assistants and our hall set-er-upers. The combination of quality acting, beautiful vocals
and visually stimulating backdrops brought much delight to all members of the audience. I would like to thank and
acknowledge the role of key staff in the production of Pirates versus Mermaids, Mrs Price, Mr Webb, Mrs Craig and
Mrs Thakur. This bi-annual event relies heavily on our staff and P&C ensuring the evenings run smoothly and that our
community are treated to delicious refreshments. We would like to acknowledge the volunteers who supported the
P&C kiosk in the making and selling of the intermission snacks and to the staff for the site management and student
movement. The many, many, heartfelt congratulations from families and friends of Narromine Public School
highlighted how very much our school is respected and appreciated. The learning experiences provided are valued
by our community and seen as providing a depth of opportunity. Pirates versus Mermaids is yet another very proud
moment for NPS staff and students. We are extremely pleased to announce that this year’s musical raised more than
$800 for the charity SIDS and KIDS. Thank you to our school community for supporting our donation boxes, your
generosity is much appreciated.
As this is our last Kalori for Term 3 the staff would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. School returns on
Monday the 9 October. Thank you for an action packed term, we are looking forward to Term 4 and all the learning
adventures that the end of year brings.

Sport
What a great term of sport we have had! Unfortunately, the PSSA
boys touch football team were beaten by Wellington in the fifth
round of the knockout. It was a great effort by both touch teams this
year.
Next term, as of Week 1, we will be starting swimming for sport again.
Most students will have returned their swimming notes in Term 1. For all new students, you need to ensure that this
note is completed and handed back to your classroom teacher. If you feel that your child has moved groups since
Term 1, please write a note to your teacher stating what group you would like them moved to. The three groups are:
Beginner or non-swimmer group,
Average (can swim across the pool) group or
Deep group for students who can swim 50m confidently by themselves.
Entry to the pool during this time has been funded by the school. Students are required to bring their swimmers,
towel, sun cream and hat.
If your child is not participating in swimming for one of the weeks due to illness or like circumstances they need to
bring a note to their classroom teacher with an explanation as to why they will not be participating. Sport is
compulsory for students as it makes up our mandatory time for teaching physical activity, therefore, it is expected
that all students attend swimming for sport.
This Friday, majority of students in Years 3-6 will be participating in a T20 Blast cricket day. More information has
been sent home regarding what students are required to bring on the day. It looks like it is going to be a warm and
fun end to the term.

PSSA Boys Touch Football v Wellington
The Narromine side came up against a very well drilled Wellington side. It was only the determination of the boys in
defence that allowed the side to be down 3-0 at half time. A change in tactics in attack led to two excellent tries for
the Narromine side. Unfortunately Wellington continued to attack and managed another five tries leaving the
scoreline at full time at 8-2.
All the team were pleased with their efforts and learnt a lot from the skills they observed in the Wellington side.
Larry Kelly and Jamari Clarke again led the team with strong attack and defence. Ruben Gill and Jonah Moss worked
tirelessly. Seb Galea scored a great try. Ryan McCarney, Darby Gordon and Zac Everett made many important
touches. Fraser Gill and Kuber Thakur used their speed to make great ground in attack.
K-2 DISCO: Friday 22 Sept
K-2 students will attend the disco on
Friday 22 September from 2-3pm. The
theme for the disco is ‘Fantasy’ and
students are invited to wear their
costumes to school for the day. Please
ensure correct footwear is worn to school
for the day.

Literacy Focus
Hannah Gill, Sam Brien, Ricky Wicks
and Hunter Daniels travelled to Dubbo
West Public School in Week 8 to
represent Narromine Public School in
the junior and senior primary sections
of the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee.
They took students from public schools
across the western area in the regional
final, and while they were all ‘out-
spelled’ in the final, they put in a
sterling effort to progress through the
rounds with some very tricky words.
The following comments are from the
students about their experience:
Hannah- “It was an amazing experience
because I got to meet lots of new people, as well as learn new words to add to my vocabulary. It was exciting.”
Sam- “It was a good experience to learn some challenging words as well as meeting new people. The facilities at
Dubbo West were astounding.”
Ricky- “I liked seeing the smiles on the faces of the contestants. It was also good to see how hard they were trying
during the competition. It was great to see how many people had made the regional final. I also enjoyed learning
new words to extend my vocabulary.”
Hunter- “I enjoyed making it to round five. It was so good to see how
many people were still in the competition. The judges made the
competition very competitive, which encouraged me to make it
further. Also, I enjoyed learning new words that I will be able to use
in my writing.”
In this newsletter, the last for the term, there are some more
samples of writing. The literacy team hope you have enjoyed seeing
the students work samples published. - Literacy Team
