    Assembly

    To use your phone

    1 Insert the SIM card and the battery.2 Charge the battery.

    3 Turn on your phone.

    SIM card

    When you register as a subscriberwith a service provider, you get a SIM

    (Subscriber Identity Module) card. TheSIM card contains a computer chipthat keeps track of items such as yourphone number, the services includedin your subscription, and names andnumbers in your contacts.

    PIN

    You may need a PIN (Personal IdentityNumber) for your SIM card to startyour phone and activate services.

    When you enter your PIN, each digitappears as *, unless it starts with thesame digits as an emergency number,for example 112. This allows foremergency calls without entering aPIN. Press to correct mistakes.

    Battery

    Some functions use more battery

    power than others and may causea need for more frequent re-charging.If talk time or standby time becomesnoticeably shorter, you may haveto replace the battery. Only useapproved batteries from Sony Ericsson%86 Battery.

    Save contact information on your SIMcard before removing it from anotherphone; for example, contacts may besaved in the phone memory.

    If you enter the wrong PIN three times ina row, PIN Blocked appears. To unblockit, you need to enter your PUK (PersonalUnblocking Key)% 75 SIM Card Lock.

    SIM Card and Battery

    To insert SIM card and battery

    1 Remove the battery cover.

    2 Slide the SIM card into its holderwith the contacts facing down.

    3 Insert the battery with the label side upand the connectors facing each other.

    4 Slide the battery cover into place.

    To charge the battery

    1 Connect the charger plug to the phonewith the symbol facing upwards.

    2 It may take up to 30 minutes beforethe battery icon appears.

    3 Wait approximately 2.5 hours or untilthe battery icon indicates a full charge.

    Press a key to activate the screen.4 Pull out the charger plug.

    Turning on your PhoneMake sure the phone is charged anda SIM card inserted before turning iton. After turning on, use the setup

    wizard to quickly and easily preparefor use.

    To turn on the phone

    1 Press and hold . The first startupmay take a few minutes.

    2 Select to use the phone in:

    Normal Mode full functionality or Flight Mode limited functionality

    with network, FM radio, Bluetoothtransceivers off %7 Flight ModeMenu.

    3 Enter your SIM card PIN, if requested.

    4 At first startup, select the language foryour phone menus.

    5 }Yes for the setup wizard to help you.

    6 Follow instructions to complete setup.

    Standby

    After you have turned the phone onand entered your PIN, the name ofthe service provider will appear on thedisplay. This is called standby mode.

    Making and Receiving CallsThe phone must be in normal mode(not flight mode).

    To make and receive calls

    Enter a phone number (with international

    prefix and area code if applicable)}Call to make the call. }End Callto end the call.

    To receive a call

    When the phone rings }Answeror }Busy to reject the call.

    To end a call

    }End Call.

    Predefined settings may already exist inyour phone.

    You may be asked to register your phoneat Sony Ericsson. If you accept to registeryour phone, no personal data, such asyour phone number, will be transferred

    to or processed by Sony Ericsson.

    You can use Settings Download ifyour SIM supports the service, yourphone is connected to a network, itis started in normal mode and doesnot already have predefined settings.

    Flight Mode MenuIf you turn on the phone and FlightMode menu is activated, select fromNormal Mode with full functionality or

    Flight Mode with limited functionality.Network, radio and Bluetoothtransceivers are turned off to preventdisturbance to sensitive equipment.You can, for example, play music orwrite a text message to send laterbut not make calls in an aeroplane.

    left or right and selecting an option.

    Go back one level in the menus. Press and hold to return to standbyor to end a function.

    Delete items, such as pictures, sounds and contacts.During a call, press and hold to mute the microphone.

    Entering Letters

    Enter letters in one of the followingways (text input methods), for example,when writing messages:

    To enter letters using multitap input

    Press - repeatedly untilthe desired character appears.

    Press to shift between capital

    and lower-case letters. Press and hold - to enter

    T9 Text Input

    The T9 Text Input method uses abuilt-in dictionary to recognize themost commonly used word for each

    sequence of key presses. This way,you press each key only once, even ifthe letter you want is not the first letteron the key.

    Most SIM cards automatically set themenu language to the country whereyou bought your SIM card. If not,the predefined language is English.

    To enter letters using T9 Text Input

    1 To enter text, you have to be in afunction where text input is possible,for example, }Messaging}WriteNew}Text Message.

    2 For example, to write the word Jane,press , , , .

    3 If the word shown is the one you want,press to accept and add a space.To accept a word without adding aspace, press . If the word shown is

    not the one you want, press orrepeatedly to view alternative words.

    Accept a word and add a space bypressing .

    4 Continue writing the message. To entera punctuation mark, press andthen or repeatedly, press

    to accept and add a space.

    To add words to the T9 Text Inputdictionary

    1 When entering letters }More}SpellWord.

    2 Edit the word by using multitap input.Use and to move the cursorbetween the letters. To delete acharacter, press . To delete theentire word, press and hold .

    When you have edited the word}Insert. The word is added to the

    T9 Text Input dictionary. Next timeyou enter this word using T9 TextInput, it appears in alternative words.

    Next word prediction

    When writing a message, you can useT9 Text Input to predict the next word,if previously used in a sentence.

    Memory Stick Micro (M2)

    Your phone supports the MemoryStick Micro (M2) memory cardadding more storage space to yourphone to save files containing picturesor music, for example. It can also beused as a portable memory card withother compatible devices.

    To insert and remove a memory card

    1 Open the cover and insert as shown(with the contacts facing down).

    2 Press the edge to release and remove.You can also move and copy filesbetween the phone, a computer anda memory card. If you have a memorycard inserted, files are automaticallysaved to it first and then to phonememory.

    Create subfolders to move or copyfiles to. Games and applicationscan be moved within the GamesandApplications folders and fromthe phone memory to a memory card.Unrecognized files are saved in the

    Otherfolder. When handling files, youcan select several or all files in a folderat the same time for all items exceptGames andApplications.

    All files are automatically saved in thephone memory. If all available memoryis full, you cannot save any files untilcontent is removed.

    You may have to purchase a memorycard separately from your phone.

    Making and Receiving CallsBefore you can make or receive anycalls, you must turn on your phoneand be within range of a network.%6 Turning on your Phone.

    Networks

    When you turn on the phone, itautomatically selects your homenetwork if this is within range. If itis not within range, you may useanother network, provided yourservice provider has an agreement

    that allows you to do so. This iscalled roaming.

    Select the network to use, or youcan add a network to your preferrednetworks. You can also change theorder in which networks are selectedduring an automatic search.

    To view available network options

    }Settingsand use or to scrollto theConnectivity tab }MobileNetworks.

    To make a call

    1 Enter a phone number (with internationalcountry code and area code, ifapplicable).

    2 }Call to make a voice call or

    3 }End Call to end the call.

    To make international calls

    1 Press until a + sign appears.

    2 Enter the country code, area code(without the first zero) and phonenumber }Call to make a voice call.

    To answer or reject a call

    To turn off the microphone

    1 Press and hold .

    2 To resume the conversation press

    and hold again.

    You can call numbers from your contactsand call list% 20 Contacts, and% 23 Call List. You can also use yourvoice to make calls% 24 Voice Control.

    Do not hold the phone to your ear whenwaiting. When the call connects, thephone gives a loud signal, unless muted.

    Contacts

    If Phone Contacts is selected asdefault, your contacts show all theinformation saved in Contacts. If youselect SIM Contacts as default, yourcontacts show information dependingon the SIM card.
