Assembly
To use your phone
1 Insert the SIM card and the battery.2 Charge the battery.
3 Turn on your phone.
SIM card
When you register as a subscriberwith a service provider, you get a SIM
(Subscriber Identity Module) card. TheSIM card contains a computer chipthat keeps track of items such as yourphone number, the services includedin your subscription, and names andnumbers in your contacts.
PIN
You may need a PIN (Personal IdentityNumber) for your SIM card to startyour phone and activate services.
When you enter your PIN, each digitappears as *, unless it starts with thesame digits as an emergency number,for example 112. This allows foremergency calls without entering aPIN. Press to correct mistakes.
Battery
Some functions use more battery
power than others and may causea need for more frequent re-charging.If talk time or standby time becomesnoticeably shorter, you may haveto replace the battery. Only useapproved batteries from Sony Ericsson%86 Battery.
Save contact information on your SIMcard before removing it from anotherphone; for example, contacts may besaved in the phone memory.
If you enter the wrong PIN three times ina row, PIN Blocked appears. To unblockit, you need to enter your PUK (PersonalUnblocking Key)% 75 SIM Card Lock.

SIM Card and Battery
To insert SIM card and battery
1 Remove the battery cover.
2 Slide the SIM card into its holderwith the contacts facing down.
3 Insert the battery with the label side upand the connectors facing each other.
4 Slide the battery cover into place.
To charge the battery
1 Connect the charger plug to the phonewith the symbol facing upwards.
2 It may take up to 30 minutes beforethe battery icon appears.
3 Wait approximately 2.5 hours or untilthe battery icon indicates a full charge.
Press a key to activate the screen.4 Pull out the charger plug.

Turning on your PhoneMake sure the phone is charged anda SIM card inserted before turning iton. After turning on, use the setup
wizard to quickly and easily preparefor use.
To turn on the phone
1 Press and hold . The first startupmay take a few minutes.
2 Select to use the phone in:
Normal Mode full functionality or Flight Mode limited functionality
with network, FM radio, Bluetoothtransceivers off %7 Flight ModeMenu.
3 Enter your SIM card PIN, if requested.
4 At first startup, select the language foryour phone menus.
5 }Yes for the setup wizard to help you.
6 Follow instructions to complete setup.
Standby
After you have turned the phone onand entered your PIN, the name ofthe service provider will appear on thedisplay. This is called standby mode.
Making and Receiving CallsThe phone must be in normal mode(not flight mode).
To make and receive calls
Enter a phone number (with international
prefix and area code if applicable)}Call to make the call. }End Callto end the call.
To receive a call
When the phone rings }Answeror }Busy to reject the call.
To end a call
}End Call.
Predefined settings may already exist inyour phone.
You may be asked to register your phoneat Sony Ericsson. If you accept to registeryour phone, no personal data, such asyour phone number, will be transferred
to or processed by Sony Ericsson.

You can use Settings Download ifyour SIM supports the service, yourphone is connected to a network, itis started in normal mode and doesnot already have predefined settings.
Flight Mode MenuIf you turn on the phone and FlightMode menu is activated, select fromNormal Mode with full functionality or
Flight Mode with limited functionality.Network, radio and Bluetoothtransceivers are turned off to preventdisturbance to sensitive equipment.You can, for example, play music orwrite a text message to send laterbut not make calls in an aeroplane.

NavigationThe main menus are shown as icons.Some submenus include tabs. Scrollto a tab by pressing the navigation key
left or right and selecting an option.
Key
Go to the main menus or to select highlighted items.
Move through the menus and tabs.
Select options shown immediately above these keys on the screen.
Go back one level in the menus. Press and hold to return to standbyor to end a function.
Delete items, such as pictures, sounds and contacts.During a call, press and hold to mute the microphone.
Open the browser.

Open or minimize the Music Player.
Press and hold to take a picture or record a video clip.
Press and hold to call your voicemail service (if set).

Using keypad shortcuts
In standby, go to menus by pressingand then enter the number of the
menu. Menu numbering starts fromthe top left icon and moves acrossand then down row by row, for example,press for the fifth menu item. Forthe tenth, eleventh and twelfth items,press , and respectively.To go back to standby, press and hold
.
Using navigation key shortcuts
In standby, go to a shortcuts menu orfunction by pressing , , or .
To edit a navigation key shortcut

2 Press the edge to release and remove.You can also move and copy filesbetween the phone, a computer anda memory card. If you have a memorycard inserted, files are automaticallysaved to it first and then to phonememory.
Create subfolders to move or copyfiles to. Games and applicationscan be moved within the GamesandApplications folders and fromthe phone memory to a memory card.Unrecognized files are saved in the
Otherfolder. When handling files, youcan select several or all files in a folderat the same time for all items exceptGames andApplications.
All files are automatically saved in thephone memory. If all available memoryis full, you cannot save any files untilcontent is removed.

Making and Receiving CallsBefore you can make or receive anycalls, you must turn on your phoneand be within range of a network.%6 Turning on your Phone.
