Imaginearecentlyhomeless familyorchild,strugglingtosurvive inahostile andunfamiliarorunsafeenvironment.Thisscenarioisunfortunately arealityforafastgrowingnumberofAmericanfamilies, veteransandchildren;duetothecurrenteconomicclimate,lackofaffordablehousing, domestic violence, immigrationandrecentnatural/manmadedisasters.Oftentimes,thesefamiliesandchildren lacktheexperienceandknowledgenecessary tosurvive onthestreetsorfindhelp.
NECON’s emergencyalertandcommunicationplatformcansend thesefamilies andindividuals information regardingtransportationproviders, busschedules, localemergencyalerts,terroristalert,extremeweatheralerts,includingshelterlocations, housing info,foodpantries, afterschool programs,andotherresourcesdesignedtohelpourstrugglinghomeless. ThroughNECON’s uniquecommunication platform,thehomeless andyouthwillhavealifeline toassistthemduringemergencies,extremeweatheranddifficult times.

Therearenumerous communityandfaith-basedorganizationsdedicatedtoimprovingthelivesofournation’sgrowinghomeless population.Unfortunately, theseorganizationslacktheresourcesnecessary tomaintaineffectivecommunicationswiththehomeless population theyserve.Whenrealitiesonthegroundchange,suchasthelocationoffoodservices, orshelterbedscapacities;organizationsneedtheability toconveythisinformationtothehomeless inrealtimenotdayslater.ThroughNECON’sEmergencyAlertsandIVRsystem,thehomeless cancallatollfreenumberforcurrentinformationspecific totheirlocationandneeds.Agenciesandorganizationscanquickly sendshortcodemessageswithrichmediacontent,alertingthehomelesspopulation tochangesinpublicservices, transportation, extremeweathershelters,mapsofunsafeareastoavoid,aswellasalertsandillustratedtipstostaysafeandinformed.

Coldtemperaturescanaffecttheentirecountryinwinter,butextremecoldcanbeespeciallydangerous.Morethan1,300peopledieeachyearfromhypothermia.Hypothermia setsinwhenyourbody’s temperaturedropsbelow95degrees.Frostbitemaydeveloponexposedskinwhentemperaturesarebelow freezing.Strongwindscombinedwithbelowfreezingtemperaturescanmakefrostbiteoccurevenquicker.

IM Safe andWell Registry.The IM Safe & Well® program incorporates an easyto use registry and notification system that canbeimplemented before, during, and after a disaster.
Unlike other disaster registries, IM Safe & Well is a permanent registry that ishosted offsite, and features multiple layers of security to prevent unauthorizedusage. Users create a unique profile that can contain pertinent medicalinformation for first-responders, as well as messages for their loved ones.Information contained in the registry is made available only to authorized usersand designated loved ones.
