S t . Paul ’s United Church of Chr is t of Indianland

JUNE 2021

I am the Lord, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King. Thus says the

Lord, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, who brings out chari-

ot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extin-

guished, quenched like a wick: Do not remember the former things, or consider the

things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive

it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43: 15-19)

We have celebrated Ascension, Pentecost and will have celebrated Trinity Sun-

day before the month of May ends. So, you might be thinking about what is next?

Well with our God there is a great deal of what is next. We wish to know and be pre-

pared for that which is coming and yet, God knows we need to rely on God to get

through that which is next. In the prophecy above form Isaiah, we hear that God will

be doing something new. What is this new thing God will do? When might we expect

it to happen? What are we supposed to do with it once we have recognized it?

All valid questions to ask about the unknown work of God. Yet, we are, at

times, skeptical and apprehensive of the unknown and the new, aren’t we? The He-

brew people who walked with God through the waters of the Red Sea probably felt

the same skepticism and apprehensiveness that we feel. We are facing the “new”

world with Covid, not beaten, but managed to the extent that we are safer and are

looking forward to something greater than we have experienced in the last fifteen

months. Yet, every day even amid this ordeal our God has not left us and has been

doing great new things, within the church and outside of the church as we executed

a new model for worship. Yes, we long for the way it was, yet may we celebrate the

way it is as we continue to gather to praise and worship our God.

We enter that season that is known as “Ordinary Time” where we gather to

worship with the same hopes, fears, dreams, and experiences that we always have.

There may be times of respite from careers, educational pursuits, and other routine

activities that seem to dominate our lives. And in all this life God is present and with

us. We look for many new things, for they excite us, and yet at church, we seem

more concerned with what was, than with what will and can be. As we enter this

“ordinary time” may we experience our extraordinary God in all that we experience,

the good, the challenging and the unknown. May we keep the faith, run the race that

is in front of us, even without the complete map. God certainly has plans for us. What

do we have planned for our God?

Christian Education News

Weekly Lessons

Pastor Martin will continue to offer a weekly Christian Education lesson each week dur-

ing the summer being posted to our Facebook page on Sunday Mornings for children and adults to

listen to. You may check it out any time after 9:00AM on a Sunday morning. If you have any ques-

tions or issues, please let us know.

Please feel free to access the materials for the weekly lessons on-line through the Whole

People of God website. The user id set up for your use is [email protected] and the password is

hwp2m5fv. The website: www.wholepeopleofgod.com

If you have any questions, please email either me, Beth Sikorsky at [email protected] or

the church office at [email protected].

Sunday School:

Happy JUNE Everyone!!!

I hope you all have been listening to and learning from Pastor Nuscher’s weekly Christian Ed-

ucation moment. The Children’s Message has also been tied into our Sunday school curriculum.

Since many of us have taken advantage of the COVID Vaccines, I am optimistic that we will

be able to resume weekly Sunday school programing with safeguards in September. There will be

more information about Sunday school in future newsletters. If you have any questions, please con-

tact Beth Sikorsky.

Vacation Bible School:

Vacation Bible school will be held July 19 thru July 23, 2021. Our theme this year is

“Christmas in July”. Since we were not able to celebrate as a Sunday school, Vacation Bible

School will be our time of celebration. The week will begin with Advent, move to Christmas, and

ending with Epiphany. There will be songs followed by crafts, games, and of course snacks each

night. If you would like to help, or have questions, please contact Beth Sikorsky.

HELP WANTED:

As we look forward to the opening of a new program year for Sunday school, I would like to

have team teachers in the classrooms. This pandemic has shown us how much we need each other.

The current classes are Nursery/Kindergarten, Primary, and Youth. We also have an adult class that

meets each week as well. The requirements for a teacher are a willingness to share your story with

the children/youth. We don’t need to be teachers to help children/youth know our friend Jesus.

Each of us learns something new every day of our lives. The same is true when reading/teaching

the Bible. Our experiences or life makes the Bible come alive each time we read a passage.

The curriculum is online and very user friendly. The curriculum gives us the theme for the

Sunday which also follows the Revised Lectionary. There are activities which reinforce the lesson.

There is also room for your own creativity. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity,

Noisy Offering for June is: Meals on Wheels of the Lehigh Valley

CHALLENGES ARE FACED EVERY DAY

Today, the average life expectancy is at a record high of 79 years. As we get older, even the

most independent among us may experience physical declines or financial hardship that strips away our independence. Add to that an increase in geographic mobility of our families, and the result is millions of seniors left behind, hungry and alone.

DELIVERING SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST A MEAL

Meals on Wheels has been guided by a single goal since the first known U.S. delivery by a small group of Philadelphia citizens in 1954 – to support our senior neighbors to extend their inde-pendence and health as they age. What started as a compassionate idea has grown into one of the

largest and most effective social movements in America, currently helping nearly 2.4 million seniors annually in virtually every community in the country.

Community-based senior nutrition programs are welcomed into the homes of our nation's seniors with every meal delivery. Many Meals on Wheels programs also manage congregate nutrition

June Mission: Phoebe Home

About Phoebe

Only Phoebe empowers more spirited seniors to get MORE out of every day and every age.

Founded in 1903 and affiliated with the United Church of Christ, Phoebe Ministries has a rich history

of improving the lives of older adults. As a not-for-profit organization, we’re focused on creating a

culture of caring campuses rich in amenities, and superior retirement living at a superior value. At

Phoebe, we believe your senior years are your greatest years.

A Tradition of Excellence in Pennsylvania

We offer a full continuum of care — from independent living to rehabilitation, personal care, and

memory support — through four continuing care retirement communities. In addition to eight man-

aged or owned affordable housing locations, four pharmacies, and several other community-based

services, Phoebe offers 14 entities serving 12 Pennsylvania counties.

For over a century, Phoebe’s tradition of excellence and passion for caring have made us the leader

in enhancing the lives of older adults and their family members.

Get More Out of Life.

Whatever your stage or age, you can start your best years at Phoebe Ministries. Enjoy the active

lifestyle you love without worrying about when or where to make your next move. Discover how the

Phoebe culture of caring is leading us into the next generation of senior living, with MORE of what

you want—all in one place. Come grow with us!

The Mission of Phoebe Ministries

“A community of faith, called by God, to enrich the lives of our seniors, their families, and the com-

munities we serve.”

The Vision of Phoebe Ministries

“Inspired by our faith, we will lead the way with innovative services that promote fullness of life.”

Phoebe Ministries is guided by its mission to provide compassionate care to residents of its commu-

nities, regardless of their ability to pay. Over fifty-six percent of our skilled nursing population, and a

smaller percentage in other living situations, rely on Phoebe’s promise of charitable care. In fiscal

year 2020, Phoebe provided more than $14 million in charitable care to our residents.

The elderly and the poor – those often forgotten in our society – are at the heart of our mission and

ministry.

The Origin of Phoebe’s Name

Phoebe Ministries’ name comes from the first-century Phoebe, a faithful servant of Christ and a

Thank you to all who supported our take out Ham and Dandelion dinner on May 1st. We

served 180 meals and had a wonderful day to manage the event. We will have final results of this

event following our June Lay, Life and Work meeting.

We also had a very successful 3-day Basket Social with take out food also being served.

Thank you to all who donated items, purchased tickets and congratulations to all of the winners.

A Hoagie Sale has been added to the schedule of events to benefit the general fund be-

cause who doesn’t enjoy a Thomson Hoagie? Hoagies will be $5 each and sign up in church or by

calling or emailing the office. Orders are due by May 30th and pick up is at church Tuesday

June 8th from 4-5:30.

Stay tuned for more information regarding Dream Come True planned for October 3rd.

The church office phone number is (610)767-5751 and email is [email protected]. The

next LLW meeting will be held after Worship and Arts on Wednesday, June 9th, 2021.

COVID PROTOCOL UPDATE

While the leadership of the church is encouraged by the recent news from the CDC and the

results of the vaccinations and the significantly diminished case counts for Covid 19, we are also

very concerned about the continued safety of all persons who are attending in person worship. We

will be making some changes to our protocols for those attending worship beginning on Sunday,

June 6th. We greatly appreciate everyone’s continued cooperation as we continue the journey with

this virus.

As of June 6th, masks are required to be worn when you enter and exit the church building

as well as when we are singing in the worship service. At all other times during worship, you may

remove your mask as you feel comfortable. We will continue to limit the seating to every other pew

until further notice as well. When outside of the building, you may also remove your masks. We will

not require that church attenders be vaccinated. As the month progresses, we may be changing

protocols, pending further case information as reported by the Department of Health. The leader-

ship has been discussing our safety concerning the virus most months and this is where we have

landed as your leadership. We thank you all for your concern for all people within the church as well

as for those who certainly have compromised immune systems.
