A Message From Pastor Milton

This weekend, people from across the Lutheran Church here in Queensland as well as some interstate visitors will gather at Peace Congregation, Gatton, for the 47th Regular Convention of Synod. The theme of this year’s Synod is: Lord, Teach us to Pray! (Luke 11:1). In the Bishop’s Report to Synod, Pastor Noel Noack picks up on this theme and encourages everyone to pray for the following:

• Pray for new life: Pastor Noack encourages everyone to pray for a rich measure of the Spirit which will revitalize and breathe new life into a Church under strain.

• Pray for our Community and Connect with it: We are reminded that, Christ calls us as his servants to go into all the world, to make disciples, to serve in the name of Christ, to lift the fallen, to find the lost, to bring healing to the sick. To help the hurting, to bring friendship to the lonely, to comfort the grieving and to give hope to the broken hearted. It is a big call. It is done in prayer, in partnership with Christ and with his presence within us.

• Pray for the Sanctity of Marriage: As a church we are encouraged to witness to the blessing of God in Christian marriage and demonstrate these blessings to society.

• Pray for Refugees and Newcomers: The debate about asylum seekers, especially those who arrive by boat, has dominated our political landscape for quite a while. We are keep on praying for this difficult issue and pray for those congregations who have been able to reach out to and give support to refugees and newcomers.

• Pray for Church Planting: Please pray for new church planting initiatives at Springfield (Pastor Matthew Wilksch) and Hillcrest (Pastor Jade Bauer). Pray for the proposed new church plant at LORDS, Ormeau and the ongoing ministry of Pastor Greg Vangsness.

• Pray for the LYQ Youth Adult Ministry Coordinator: This role has recently been filled by Tom Schmidt.

• Pray for the LCA 2015 National Convention: Which will be held at Redeemer Lutheran College, Rochedale (30 Sept – 4 Oct 2015).

• Pray for the Ordination Discussion: Pray that all members will heed the call to faithfully study the Scriptures and seek the guidance and wisdom of our Lord for his Church in this and all other matters.

• Pray for our Partnership in the Gospel: Pray that the District Office, which houses the Office of the President and all District Departments will work together for the sake of the gospel.

• Give thanks for Aust. Conference of Lutheran Educators, Brisbane, 30 Sept – 2 Oct, 2013.

• Pray for the Pastor’s Wives Retreat – Sept 2014 – Santa Teresa, Wellington Pt.

• Pray for the Royal Commission and those who have suffered abuse:

• Pray for Students preparing for the Ordained Ministry: Ben Lyons (21 yrs) from St John’s Corinda is a new student studying at Australian Lutheran College.

• Pray for our District Partnership with Tanah Alas and Sidikalang: Pray for the ongoing partnership that the LCAQD has with the Tanah Alas (Region of Aceh) District of the HKBP Church.

• Pray for those who Serve in Leadership: Pray for our District Bishop, Noel Noack, and for those who serve in the District Office as well as those who serve on District Committees.

Please keep of these prayer points in your prayers. Milton

ONE MONTH TO LIVE Did you know that our Parish-Wide Campaign is only 10 weeks away! Starting the 27th July, we are looking at what you would do if you learned you had just one month to live. While God-willing you have

longer, without a doubt if you knew for sure, you’d stop living life on autopilot and determine to make the most of every moment.

You don’t have any time to waste!

Why wait to answer the longings of your heart? In One Month to Live, we will see how to stop waiting for ‘someday’ and start now to make each day really matter. With contagious enthusiasm and practical insights, you’ll learn how to apply the four universal principles of a no-regrets life: Live Passionately (Living each day as if it were your last), Love Completely (Showing others love that transcends and transforms), Learn Humbly (Growing through your problems and pain), Leave Boldly (Creating a legacy that will impact generations).

Keep tuned for more information over the coming weeks about how you can be involved and be inspired to squeeze all you can out of each day you’ve been given.

Happenings in LYQ

Deep & Wide (Insight into young and adult ministry). Young adults aged 18 – 30 are the least represented age group in our church. Toward the end of 2013 Lutheran Youth of Queensland undertook a major research project to measure the engagement of young adults in the LCAQD and to identify drivers for effective young adult ministry. There will be a series of one day seminars, with the first one scheduled for June 21st at Bethany Lutheran Church, Raceview, where the findings of this research will be presented to help local congregations explore practical ways to create church community that helps young adults flourish in an age of uncertainty. Brochures for this seminar are located on the information table at the rear of the church. To register online go to
