Love has been defined as sacrificial giving of one’s time, money, or energy while expecting nothing in return. C.K. Barrett writes, “Love is an activity, the essential activity of God Himself.” I John 4:7, “Love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows
MISSION OUTREACH JULY Susquehanna Valley Pregnancy Services, as a ministry of Jesus Christ, seeks to meet the spiritual, emotional and material needs of women and men unprepared for pregnancy. They provide limited medical services, counsel people affected by abortion, pregnancy loss and sexual abuse, educate the community regarding the sanctity of human life and sexual integrity, and motivate the church to compassionate pro-life involvement. Believing that all life is precious, SVPS does not perform abortions or refer people to others for abortions, but does do offer post-abortion counseling. Finally summer is here!
Can you believe that summer is here? What do you have planned for the next 2 ½ months? Swim dates, family vacations, 4th of July festivities and more? As much as you have planned, and as much as your kids are looking forward to summer, you know there will come a time when you hear your child say, "Mom, I'm bored, what can I do?" 1. Have an old fashioned weenie roast—and make your own condiments. There are over 100 recipes for mustard in the below links: http://www.recipezaar.com/Dill-Pickle-Relish-124054 http://www.melborponsti.com/inxmtd.html http://www.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/5/Best_Tomato_Catsup15315.shtml
2. Learn a new talent. What do you really wish you could do? Talk to your parents about it—they can help you achieve your goals. 3. Do yard work for an elderly neighbor. It will make you feel good and your neighbor will really appreciate it. 4. Lie outside at night and watch the sky for shooting stars. Find out why shooting stars aren't really stars at all. http://starchild.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/StarChild/questions/question12.html 5. With your parent's permission, redecorate and rearrange your bedroom. You can get Oops paint for as little as a dollar a gallon at your local paint/hardware store. 6. Learn the alphabet in sign language. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_manual_alphabet Epsum factorial non deposit quid pro quo hic escorol. Marquee

7. Plant an herb garden. Talk to your Mom about what herbs she likes to cook with. Then eventually, snip some herbs and make a recipe with her. http://home.howstuffworks.com/how-to-grow-an-herb-garden.htm 8. With your family, float down a slow river on an inner tube. Or maybe, not so slow of a river—tubing is a blast! 9. Bake a cake and decorate it. There are a number of cake decorating shows on television--watch a few and then see what you can do. Have fun with it. http://www.wilton.com/decorating/decorating-basics 10. Make a scrapbook of your summer activities. http://www.teachkidshow.com/teach-your-child-how-to-make-a-scrapbook 11. Learn to sew, embroider or crochet. Maybe your grandmother can teach you. 12. Learn to play chess. Chess is Fun.
13. Research your family tree. Maybe your parents and grandparents can help. http://www.kidsturncentral.com/topics/hobbies/kidsgenealogy.htm 14. On a really hot day, go to the dollar movies and enjoy the air conditioning! 15. Do some crazy fun science experiments (explosions, etc) with your parent's permission of course. ttp://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts.html 16. Make a new friend. Reach out to someone who has just moved into your neighborhood or to someone that maybe doesn't have a lot of friends. They might end up being your best buddy. There are over 101 ideas for summer fun at http://www.crosswalk.com/home-page/todays-features/101-things-to-do-this-summer-11632665.html Check them out! It is with great joy that I continue to serve at Jonestown UMC. As most of you know, I was ordained as an Elder into the Eastern Pennsylvanian Conference of the United Methodist Church at the June 2016 Annual Conference. Thank you to the many congregants from Jonestown UMC, Salem-Berne UMC, my home church, St. Clair-Wade UMC, family and friends who attended, and the reception at Jonestown UMC the following Sunday. This is a time of celebration, but it is also a humble time. This year we celebrate the 60th anniversary of ordination and full clergy rights for women. In 1956, the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church voted to extend ordination to women. June 17th marks not only the day of my ordination, but would have been John Wesley’s 313th birthday. In July I will be a pilgrim traveling through England on the Wesley Pilgrimage, leaving on July 9 and returning on July 22. I am a recipient of one of the 20 Wesley Pilgrimage scholarships from the United Methodist Church in the USA for 2016. The scholarship is courtesy of Higher Education and Ministry and the General Commission on Archives and History. “The Wesley Pilgrimage has a track record of being a life-changing experience for United Methodist leaders. The goal is to deepen understanding of the practices of missional leadership in the Wesleyan tradition.”1 I have homework to do before I arrive at Sarum College to prepare myself for this pilgrimage.
I look forward to visiting “Epworth, the Wesley birthplace; Oxford, where John and Charles led the Holy Club; Bristol, the home of the Methodist societies and class meetings; London, where both Wesley brothers experience assurance of salvation and John Wesley built the center of British Methodism; and Salisbury, home to a vital Methodist congregation once served by Francis Asbury.” 2 The daily practices of Morning Prayer with Communion and Evening Prayer will greatly contribute to my pilgrimage experience. I am more than a tourist; I am a pilgrim walking in the footsteps of John and Charles Wesley and the people called Methodists who “profess to pursue holiness of heart and life…or universal love filling the heart, and governing the life.” 3 Please keep me in your prayers as I participate in this pilgrimage. See you all on Sunday, July 24 as we continue with our sermon series “Half Truths.” Blessings, Pastor Susan 1 Impact Statement: http://gbod-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/legacy/kintera-files/wesley-pilgrimage-england/WesleyPilgrimageProjectReport.pdf 2 Ibid. 3 Ibid.
