FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Well, Youth Month has come and gone! Congratulations to our Graduates and all of our Youth as they navigated through a tough school year. We are now in Manhood Month. Our Celebration of Manhood Sunday is on July 26th. This is also our 2nd Sacrificial Sunday of the year. Each adult member is asked to prayerfully give $150.00 above your tithes and offerings on this day….and we want the men of the church to lead this charge. Calling all men….Man Up and Get Moving! We are looking for you…even now! Please feel free to mail in or drop off your tithes and offering and your Sacrificial gift or continue to use our Online Giving. We will also still vote for our Man of the Year this month. Please do so by emailing your choice to [email protected] by July 19th. Remember, this special recognition goes to a man who is a member of our Church, a consistent giver or tither, and attends Bible Study or Sunday School.

As we have done the past few years during Manhood Month, I will be highlighting a man from the Bible during the Sundays in July. For today’s Biblical figure we are studying Nehemiah! Nehemiah was a cup bearer for the King. He lived in the palace and had what was then considered a “primo job”. However, he left it all to serve God’s people. Nehemiah’s story is about service…about helping hurting people…about meeting needs. Nehemiah is a great story of praying and communicating with God about everything. Nehemiah reminds us to seek God and pray, that everyone can do something, and that God sees our faithfulness. The name “Nehemiah” means “God has comforted”. Nehemiah offers hope and much more. His story guides us on how to overcome troubles and trust in God while also showing Nehemiah’s prayer life, leadership, and faithfulness. How appropriate a lesson for such a time as this. Read Nehemiah’s story in the Old Testament…and continue to be An Exciting Church Excited About Its Mission!

THE DEACON’S MESSAGE

Popular fashions come and go. What people wore in the 60’s or 70’s isn’t as popular as what everyone is wearing today. Nevertheless, if possible most people want to be “in style.” There are a few who go against the grain and attempt to create their own style, but no one wants to be viewed as one who isn’t stylish. As a nation we focus more on what we wear on the outside instead of what lies within our hearts. What makes us truly fashionable to other people is a heart that beats for Christ. People may not understand the allure if they are not believers but there should be a magnetic draw that we possess because we live for Christ. Colossians 3:14 (NLT) gets to the heart of the matter and gives us an expert fashion tip: “And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us together in perfect harmony.” If we pull from our wardrobe and put on Christ daily we will always possess flawless fashion.

A LITANY FOR THE LORD’S SUPPER

I Corinthians 11:23-34 (NRSV)

Leader: For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when He was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” People: In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. Leader: Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be answerable for the body and blood of the Lord. Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup. People: For all who eat and drink without discerning the body, eat and drink judgment against themselves. For this reason many of you are weak and ill, and some have died. Leader: But if we judged ourselves, we would not be judged. But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world. So then, my brothers and sisters, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. All: If you are hungry, eat at home, so that when you come together, it will not be for your condemnation. About the other things I will give instructions when I come.
