Pastor’s Corner

My Dear Parishioners,

I hope that you are all surviving the heat of these past summer days and enjoy-ing this summer time of rest and relaxation. This past Monday marked the second anniver-sary of my installation here as pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption. I still have fond memories of my installation Mass and the fes-tivities that followed in the hall. Time does really fly, but in moments like this I just want to take the opportunity to say again how blessed and how grateful I am to be your pas-tor and, how grateful I am for your kindness and support. As I move into my third year as your pastor, I look forward to continuing to serve you and working with you so that togeth-er we can continue to build a strong and faith-filled parish community here at OLA. We are still continuing our fundraising efforts for our Annual Italian Festival. Our fundraising goal this year (as previous years) is set at $5,000. As of this writing, we have now raised $3,372; that is 67.44% of our goal. If you haven’t made a donation yet, we invite you to do so. It would be wonderful to reach our goal again this year!

As a reminder, our Annual Italian Festival will be held on Sunday, August 11th beginning with a solemn Mass at 1:30 PM (this Mass will replace the 11:30 AM Mass that day). Also, leading up to this big day, we will celebrate a Triduum of Prayer on August 7th, 8th and 9th. Fr. Christopher Moriconi, Secretary to Archbishop Chaput, will be our guest homilist for these days of prayer and adoration. After-wards, food and entertainment will be offered in the Piazza. Please consider participating in these days of prayer and festivity and I encourage you to bring a friend!

Finally, I received a beautiful thank you note from Mothers’ Home in Darby regarding our annual Baby Bottle Drive. This year we made $1,671.52 with spare change donated. Know that they are truly grateful and I thank all of those who participated this year and your sac-rificial generosity to those most in need. Thank you all again for your prayers and support. Know how grateful I am for all of you! Love and prayers, Fr. Carey
