The Fifth Sunday in Lent 3 March 29, 2020
Glory to God always and everywhere!
Dear Parishioners, every hour we pray for you and all your concerns. We miss you every day. Rest assured, I will “keep the lights on for you.” Truly, the Paschal Candle, The Light of Christ is what leads us every day!
CV-19 is here, but you are brave. CV-19 will pass, but not yet, so stand strong.
My brother priests and I are celebrating Mass privately every day for your intentions and the intentions
of the Mass as listed. We will celebrate the Divine Liturgy, unto our very last breath.
God’s grace in your lives is evident. How so? I have seen and have personally witnessed your charity in action: 24/7, 365 days a year. Patience has blessed you in these hours.
Lent has taken a serious turn, a critical turn for your Doctors, Nurses and First Responders. You are first in our prayers. We pray too for those who cannot work and those that are working with fear and anxiety. For example, the 104 SEPTA Bus Driver: ‘who knows who is getting on, with what’? The driver has courage with every passenger. God bless you! To all our parents, this is a new Lent for you as well, is it not? “Life has changed” yet still continues. Families are strong because of your fidelity and courage. Thank you! Dear parishioners, equally, you know, I need your help. According to your own ability and holy wisdom please know your donations are most important. Thank you to those who have contributed to last Sunday’s collection, $12,614 was donated. Electronic giving is an option, the rectory mail is another option.
You are an awesome people of God! Please continue.
Christ Be Our Light
V/: “Longing for light, we wait in darkness. Longing for truth, we turn to you.
Make us your own, your holy people, light for the world to see.
R/: Christ be our light, shine in our hearts, shine through our darkness.
Christ be our light, shine in your church gathered today”.
“In you O Lord I place my trust. May I never hope in vain”.
Blessings from Jesus Christ our Redeemer!
Father Michael Gerlach

Adult Faith Enrichment Opportunities RCIA ~ Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults ~ Our parish family is supporting and praying for our adults who have been in this year’s RCIA PROCESS. We pray for our three candidates: Pamela Cloud, Kirsten Rodrigues and Emily Walker who
are baptized and are preparing for full communion in our Catholic faith this Easter. We pray for our two elect: Kyle Brown and Whitney Scavello who are preparing to be baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil. They will also receive the Body of Christ for the first time. Lent provides the time for deeper reflection and meditation on how their lives are intensely centered on conversion. Let us continue to journey with them.

Dear Saints Simon and Jude Family, The US Senate is currently considering a coronavirus relief package that includes aid to K-12 schools. Currently, there is language in the legislation allowing non-public schools to receive relief. However, it appears that some are attempting to remove this language. Please use CAPE's Legislative Action Center to urge senators to make sure that private schools are not excluded from Congress' COVID-19 relief package.
Thank you very much. God bless you. Sister Regina Elinich, IHM
“Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard
your hearts and minds in Jesus Christ.” Phil: 6 - 7

Saints Simon and Jude School...Gets Creative from Home!! We entered into our second week of e-Learning as students, parents, and teachers continued to adjust to their new routines. I am seeing many varied, interesting, and creative lessons being assigned by our teachers. Technology is being integrated in many cases. Parents have sent notes of appreciation to their child’s teacher and/or to me expressing their understanding, support, and gratitude. We are all trying to make the best of a challenging situation. Our goal is to continue to provide instruction to enable the children to be ready to advance to the next grade.
In times like this, we are particularly grateful for the strength and togetherness of our community. Please continue your prayers for our school families as we navigate these difficult days.
Blessings, Sister Regina Elinich, IHM

We admire your use of various resources that are available now by way of the internet. The considerations of each family is unique and special as you review and practice different styles of prayer in this Lenten season. We congratulate you as prepare for weekend liturgies in your households. Perhaps the sacramental which are displayed in your home serve as reminders that God is always with us no matter what happens. Thank you for your promotion and formation of the Catholic faith which was begun at your child’s baptism. Let us continue to hope and look for the light at the end of this tunnel.

Divine Mercy ~ How to pray the Novena In order to gain the gift of plenary indulgence from Jesus, we need to make a good confession, pray the Caplet for the nine days from Good Friday to Divine Mercy Sunday, and receive the Eucharist on the feast. To observe the Feast of the Divine Mercy, we begin a novena on Good Friday. The Novena includes special intentions for each of the nine days and ends with the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. There are pamphlets in the back of Church which contain the prayers for the Chaplet and Novena. The pamphlet is also posted as a PDF file on our parish website. The first novena in the life of the Church was the nine days of intense prayer from the Ascension of our Lord to the Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The Divine Mercy Novena offers a perfect “book-end” to the first novena. In the first novena, Jesus goes up to the Father in heaven, and sends down the Spirit. In the Divine Mercy Novena, Jesus goes through His passion, the humiliation and
down into the tomb, and lifts us up with Himself to risen life. What prayer intentions can we bring to our novena? Could we pray intensely for nine days that Jesus bring greater love and gratitude into our families? Are we hoping that Jesus will reveal our vocation to us, our particular mission, or the person we are meant to marry, or how we might meet God in our present walk of life? In addition to all our personal needs, we bring the needs of the whole world.
