Therapy Social:

Living with Low Vision

Did you know that vision is the primary sense and

it is the first to alert us to danger? Low vision is

provides us information at a speed than any other

Safer Sunscreen

As the warmer months bring us lots of sunshine and we spend more time outside, sunscreen becomes even more important. Of course, it is just as important that these sunscreens are safe for your body. Research has shown that sunscreens that contain zinc oxide are the safest option and most effective. For more than 2,000 years, zinc has been used to help heal burns and wounds. Zinc oxide is created when zinc is chemically heated and combined with oxygen molecules. These two elements are formed into a powder and used in certain sunscreens or kept in powder form. Zinc oxide has been found to protect against broad spectrum ultraviolet rays (UVA & UVB) which is not typical of other chemical sunscreens that only protect against one type of UV light. Those products that contain a higher percentage of zinc oxide are more likely to prevent burns and determines the final SPF level. Typically, zinc oxide percentages are between 25-30%. When purchasing sunscreen, make sure you look at the ingredients to ensure that zinc oxide is included! Remember when using this sunscreen, to apply 30 minutes before heading outdoors, do not miss sensitive spots such as the top of the ears, back of the neck, lips and top of the head or feet. If you would like to make your own zinc oxide sunscreen this summer here is a recipe: Ingredients: 10 drops lavender essential oil 1 tbsp. pomegranate oil ¾-cup coconut oil 2 tbsps. zinc oxide 2 tbsps. shea butter Directions: 1. Combine all ingredients except zinc oxide in a

glass jar. 2. Place a saucepan with 2 inches of water on

stove over medium/low heat 3. Place jar in saucepan and stir contents until

the ingredients start to melt 4. Once all the ingredients are combined, add in

zinc oxide and stir well. Store in cool place.

6. Epsom Salt & Magnesium- In general, healthy

magnesium levels from Epsom salt use can help

overall bodily inflammation since low

End of Life Conversation The last two Thursday evening programs in June have dealt with facing the end of life. One evening was from a spiritual perspective and one from a medical perspective. As a follow-up to these two evenings Pastor Joy and Pastor Larry would like to have several small groups come together to continue the conversation.

What are your hopes? What are your fears, facing the end of life? How can you know when to let go?

Watch for an announcement about signing up for a group. Everyone is invited!
