Fun! Girls just wanna have it, and so do boys, and the place to have lots of fun is Camp Coconuts

in Middletown. The camp for cra-zy good times is celebrating five years of creative and empowering fun for kids ages four through 14. They are preparing for their 10 weeks of summer day camp activ-ities, which will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. (extended hours from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) running from June 27 to September 7 Camp Coconuts is not school. It’s a place try new things, experience things you haven’t done before, be silly, and create memories that last a lifetime. Through a huge variety of creative activities, campers build their confidence, curiosity, and problem-solving skills while having fun. They unleash their fearless side without their parents around. Located in the heart of Middletown, Camp Coconuts has one indoor pool and three outdoor pools, state of the art ice-rink, an indoor martial arts studio, fitness studio, beach volleyball court, wall ball court, gaga pit, two playgrounds, baseball diamond, basketball court, soccer field, arcade, and eight and a half acres for all outdoor sports. Coming this summer are the brand new team building exercises and a challenging and thrilling brand new low ropes courses. And while that sounds like plenty of fun already, Christopher DiGiorgio, one the camp directors – or mature goofballs, as they call themselves – says that is just the beginning. “We take all kinds of trips to places like Fireball Mountain, iPlay, the Funplex, the Gravity Vault, Liberty Science Center, and lots more. We have special themed events. It is so awesome and so much fun. The kids love it, the counselors love it, and the parents love it. Everybody gets a lot of exercise, laughter, and adventure. Who wouldn’t love that?” Some of those special days include things like Crazy Hair Day, Luau Day, Jell-O Day, and lots more. There’s Big Day, where kickball goes aquatic, as the goofballs haul out gigantic tarps and create the kick-ball diamond where players travel from base to base (kiddie pools) via slip n’ slide. How about Sticky Brownie Day? In this deliciously down and dirty day, campers get two brownies, one for eating and one for frosting. The frosted brownie gets smashed onto their foreheads and the campers jump up and down to see how many jumps their brownie can survive. On Watermelon Day, campers learn all the things you can do with a watermelon…from eating, carving, and making smoothies to racing, smashing, and spitting seeds. One of the best days is My Future Self Day. Here, the campers come dressed as their future self. They then tell the story of their life as their future self, explaining who helped them become themselves and how they changed the world. Mr. DiGiorgio continued, “Camp Coconuts is committed to creat-ing a wonderful summer experience for our campers. Through all this fun, the kids really get to build confidence as they try things they never thought they’d try. They make lifetime friends, get physically stronger, mentally focused, develop communication skills, and laugh their coco-nuts off!” Camp Coconuts has winter and summer programs. The winter camp is open at 205 Harmony Road and the summer camp is right next

doors at 214 Harmony Road, in Middletown. Camp Coconuts even has Coconut Days. These are sched-

uled on those days when kids are off from school, but parents still have to work. Coconuts Days include all of the ‘fun-tabulous’ ac-tivities that make this the place that campers go co-co-nutty for. Finally, Camp Coconuts is honored to offer two scholar-ships for campers with special needs. Their “Sunshine on the Sea Scholarship,” in honor of Anna Heijs, is awarded to a child

who is coping with illness and a sibling for three full weeks of camp each. Their Michael Laval-

le Scholarship is for families in need. One child will receive six weeks of camp-

ing. Camp Coconuts also is proud to bring the joy and work with families experiencing financial hardship who need a childcare solution for the summer while they are trying to get back on their feet. If you would like to learn more or submit a camper for consideration, please

visit their website for all the details. To learn about enrollment, tui-

tion, schedule of events, and just slap a smile on your face, visit www.campcoco-

nuts.com or you can call (732) 856-9473.

ANDERSON SURF CAMPS Camp Profile: Anderson Surf Camp, the resident surf and paddle-board school at Surfrider Beach Club in Sea Bright, teaches all ages and ability levels surfing and paddleboarding and the ocean/surf culture. It’s a very different experience. Camp director Tom Anderson (who coach-es snowboarding at the World Cup level) explains his unique camp phi-losophy, stating, “We share our lifestyle with the kids. The kids aren’t just dropped off for a two-hour class and go home. Camper to coach ratio is 2:1 to 4:1.Our kids spend the whole day at the beach, just like my coaches and I do and have done our entire lives. We walk to lunch down the street and the kids get to spend real time socializing together. That can’t happen in the water because they need to be focused. The kids love our lunch trips, plus it’s an opportunity for us to mentor camp-ers about good manners, basic math, nutrition, and social skills. After lunch, its back to the beach for more fun in the water surfing, paddle-boarding, playing “the bridge” game (another huge hit with campers), or just swimming. We don’t baby our campers. These kids are held to high expectations of “doing for themselves.” They become part of our ocean/surf culture and they earn it.” Details: The main camp starts at eight years old, but exceptions are made for mature youngsters and little rock star athletes. Open seven days a week by appointment or walk-in. Located at the Surfrider Beach Club at 931 Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright. Weekly camp runs 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., daily; hourly and seasonal sessions are also available. Boards provided. Call (732) 691-8297 or visit www.andersonsurfcamps.com.
