Joshua 3-4 | Crossing the Jordan

BIBLICAL FAITH is... 1. BELIEVING God’s Word... 2. and ACTING upon it... 3. no matter how I FEEL... 4. because GOD promises a GOOD RESULT!

Hebrews 11:6 (ESV)And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

James 2:26 (ESV)For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

Choice #2: _________________________ (3:14-17)1 John 2:1–6 (ESV) — Christ Our Advocate2 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

1 John 5:2 (ESV)2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his com-mandments.

2. What will you _______________________?God doesn’t tell us to remember things because the past was glorious… nor does he tell us to remember things because we are glorious… God tells us to remember because HE IS GLORIOUS! (3:9-11; 4:21-24)

1:10 HOMEWORK1. Crossing the Jordan and entering the Promised Land was a point of radical life change for Israel. Where do we see Jesus in Joshua 3-4?

2. What are some points of major life change in your life? How have you exercised biblical faith in your life?

3. Read Romans 4:13-25 (focus especially on v. 18ff) . Paul describes Abraham’s faith in this chapter. Write down where you see the four components of Biblical Faith in Abraham’s example. (You might also look at Hebrews 11:8-19.)

4. Which of the four components of biblical faith do you struggle with the most?

5. What is the connection between Faith and Obedience? Read James 2:14-26, Eph. 2:8-10.

6. Read Joshua 4:21-24. Why does God have Joshua establish a memorial? What is its purpose?

7. What are some things God has done for you?

8. Do you have any places, people, things that you would say are “memorials” or “monuments” for you of God working in your life?

9. What’s the danger with establishing a monument/memorial?

10. Read Psalm 78:5-8 and Deuteronomy 6:1-25. What are some ways you can leave a Godly legacy in your marriage? In your family? In your church?

Read Joshua 3:9-11 and 4:21-24.. God calls us to remember what he’s done for us, so that we would keep our eyes on Jesus. Make a choice. How will you make a tangible effort to remember what God has done and keep Jesus first?
