These degrees are offered at the KU Edwards Campus as part of the partnership between JCCC and the Edwards Campus. These evening degree completion programs from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences have all of the upper‐level courses for the degree offered at KU Edwards. 

Liberal Arts Requirements (all students):

The courses listed below are REQUIRED for degrees from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. These courses MAY be taken to complete the KU CORE, but if they are not, this additional coursework is necessary to complete degree requirements. Also, students must satisfy the major requirements of the degree they are pursuing. 

B.A. (Bachelor of Arts): 1. Quantitative Reasoning (3 Credits): This course must have MATH 101 (College Algebra) or a higher level 

mathematics course as a pre‐requisite. Additionally, this course must also be approved for either Goal 1 Learning outcome 2 of the KU Core or another course approved by CUSA. Satisfied by the following KU courses: ACCT 200, ASTR 391, CHEM 130, CHEM 135, CHEM 150, CHEM 170, CHEM 184, CHEM 190, CHEM 195, COMS 356, DSCI 301, MATH 105, MATH 115, MATH 121, MATH 141, MATH 365, PHSX 114, PHSX 211,  PHSX 213, AP Calculus (AB or BC) score of 3 or above, AP statistics score of 3 or above, or equivalent  transfer course. 

2. Laboratory or Field Experience (Variable Credits): This course must be an academic‐credit bearing laboratory or field experience. This course may be taken in conjunction with a lecture course but the course combination must contain a  laboratory. 

3. Writing (6 Credits): Students must complete six credit hours (two courses) of collegiate writing‐level instructions. Students must complete ENGL 101: Composition and ENGL 102/105: Critical Reading and Writing/Freshman Honors English. Students who place into ENGL 102/105 by examination must complete ENGL 102/105 and another course meeting Goal 2, Learning Outcome 1 of the KU Core. 

Satisfied by the following KU courses: ENGL 101 AND ENGL 102/105, OR ENGL 102/105 AND a course that satisfies Goal 2, Learning Outcome 1 of the KU Core. 

4. Non‐English Language Proficiency (Variable Credits): Students must demonstrate fourth semester proficiency in a single non‐English language, OR third semester proficiency in a first non‐English language and first semester proficiency in a second non‐English language. See list on page 7 for courses that will fulfill this requirement. 

B.G.S (Bachelor of General Studies): Completion of the requirements of a single B.G.S. major AND a secondary field of academic study (a

second degree offered by CLAS or other school, a second CLAS major or co-major, a minor offered by CLAS or another school, or two certificates offered by CLAS or another school);

*The following majors are offered through the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (the College) at the Edwards Campus: 

Law and Society, BA/BGS Law and Society is an interdisciplinary field that examines how law works in practice in public administration, courts, the non‐profit sector, policy, policing, and the justice system. As a field, law and society explores social movements, government practice, and reform. Students with this degree may pursue work in a variety of settings including criminal justice organizations, non‐profits, policy think tanks, and political institutions. Students are encouraged to complete ENGL 121, ENGL 122, MATH 171, PSYC 130, POLS 124, and SOC 122 at JCCC for this program. 

 Literature, Language and Writing, BA/BGS A degree in English will help develop the skills of dealing with concepts and abstractions, creativity, and good communication and people skills. An undergraduate degree in English is an excellent base from which to explore career options and good preparations for a variety of advanced degrees in areas such as business or law. Students should complete ENGL 121, ENGL 122 and a third English course at JCCC. These are prerequisites for the upper‐level English courses in the major at Edwards. It is highly recommended that students complete a third English course that has Comp I and Comp II as the prerequisites.  

Psychology, BA/BGS A bachelor’s degree in psychology provides undergraduate students with a broad knowledge of psychology to achieve both personal and professional goals. A psychology major can be useful for careers in business, teaching, medicine, nursing, law, social work, counseling, student services, child development, administration or human resources. Some students complete the major to become psychologists themselves. Through program curriculum, students will have a better understanding of human behavior, thinking and emotion. Students should take PSYC 130 General Psychology, PSYC 209 Statistics in Psychological Research, PSYC 210 Research Methods in Psychology, BIOL 121 Intro to Biology OR BIOL 135 Cell and Molecular Biology and MATH 171 College Algebra at JCCC since these courses are prerequisites for most of the courses in the PSYC major. 

Public Administration, BA/BGS The Public Administration program is designed to provide graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills for planning, implementing and evaluating public programs. This knowledge will help organizations be more effectively prepared to deal with local and global diversity. Students should complete MATH 171 College Algebra at JCCC. Students may take POLS 245 Introduction to Public Administration at JCCC which is equivalent to PUAD 330 Intro to Public Administration at KU. (NOTE: POLS 245 will not count towards jr.sr. hours at KU.) Completion of POLS 124 American National Government at JCCC is strongly encouraged.  

*A minimum of 120 credit hours are required. No more than 64 hours from a two‐year institution may be applied toward the 120 hour total. Must include 45 upper‐level hours, 30 of those hours must be at KU. A grade of “C” or better must be earned in each course to transfer. Transfer “D” grades are not accepted or applied toward any degree in the College of Arts & Sciences.
