joe oli : bossa nova musician - world music...

Joe Oli : Bossa Nova Musician Joe Oli (JOLI) is a low-profile musician, who has been playing nylon string guitar for as long as he remembers. Largely self-taught, JOLI started performing professionally during his student days in Perth, Western Australia, in cosy intimate venues, to large outdoor concerts, to five-star hotel lobby lounges, and in various combinations (solo, duo, trio, quartet, quintet, etc). After completing his University degree in a technical field, JOLI let his musical interests lie dormant while he focused on building his professional career. Having successfully established himself in his day job, it was time to get back into music. After moving to Sydney, JOLI has held a residence for more than two years (and still going), at a restaurant / cafe in Sydney's tourist hub The Rocks, entertaining locals and visitors alike with his authentic interpretations of Bossa Nova music, in the style of world famous Brazilian composer/musician Antonio Carlos Jobim, and guitarist João Gilberto (who are both credited with inventing the Bossa Nova, or the New Wave). JOLI prefers to keep his interpretations to the raw and purest form of the art - Voice and guitar only, sang in a mixture of Portuguese and English.
