A. Every year nearly 70 teens under 18 die from (non-agriculture) work injuries in the US. Another 77,000 get hurt badly enough that they go to a hospital.

B. Every year, over 100 teens die from agriculture work injuries in the US. Another 2,000 get hurt badly enough that they stay home from work.

1. In CA, you must be at least 12 years old to be hired as a farm worker

2. Youth of any age may work at any time in any job on a farm owned & operated by their parents.

3. There are laws that protect teens under the age of 16 from working in certain jobs that have been identified as a hazardous occupations or agricultural zones of danger.

4. In CA, no one under 12 may accompany a family member to work near:

a. Moving farm equipment

b. Pesticides or other chemicals

c. Water hazards such a an irrigation canal

5. In California, no worker under 16 may:

a. Handle or apply pesticides

b. Drive, ride,or assist in operating a tractor or forklift

c. Drive any vehicle for transporting passengers.

d. Use powered equipment such as a chain saw, hay mower, hay baler, or cotton picker

e. Work on a ladder over 20 feet

f. Work inside a silo

B. Age Restrictions in non-Agricultural Jobs1. In CA, workers under 18 may not:
