WHY IS ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANING AND DISINFECTION IMPORTANT?

Cleaning removes dirt from the environment.

Disinfection kills germs and reduces the risk of passing germs from one person to another.

WHAT IS CLOSTRIDIUM DIFFICLE (C.DIFF)?

The spore-forming germ that causes disease ranging from mild diarrhea and in some cases, death.

HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT A ROOM NEEDS TO BE CLEANED WITH THE C_DIFF PROTOCOL?

On the door, you will see a contact precautions sign and the sign below stating hands must be washed with soap and water and BruTab must be used for cleaning.

WHAT IS A “HIGH TOUCH SURFACE” AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

A surface that is touched often and has a higher chance of having germs on it. High-touch surfaces must be cleaned and disinfected every day

Examples: Door knobs, light switches, keyboard, mouse, over-bed table, closet, chair, bedrail, telephone, call box, sink, soap dispenser, grab bars, toilets seats etc…

WHAT PRODUCT SHOULD BE USED FOR DISINFECTING THE ENVIRONMENT?

· General disinfectant for all surfaces

· 2 minute contact time

BruTab 6s

· Disinfectant used for C.DIFF, Diarrhea and Norovirus rooms

· 4 minute contact time

WHAT IS THE ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANING MONITORING PROGRAM?

High touch surfaces are marked with UV (ultraviolet) liquid swab. Surfaces are checked 2 days later to determine if cleaned. Results are given to managers and personnel. Managers can follow up with personnel based on the report.
