Our maintenance staff are on campus 24/7 and they respond to any security need when called upon. Our staff do not carry weapons. When there are security calls of a serious nature, our staff are not asked to put themselves in harms way. In these instances, they call 911 and will monitor the situation until officers arrive. The City of Lawrence Police department is our local agency. CAMERAS: Our security cameras are located on the interior of each door on campus as well as the 63 rd Street and Sunnyside Road entrances. When there is a security breach, this allows us to review footage that helps with any investigation needed. There are also cameras in some corridors inside the campus as well as on the exterior of some buildings. We have a combination of 85 cameras inside and outside of the buildings. No camera is located in such a way that will invade anyones privacy. Not every foot of space is covered by a camera. The receptionist has the ability to monitor these cameras 24/7. Follow up with a call to the receptionist so that our staff can respond as needed. They have agreed to provide security services that includes other duties not common to security staffing but that we require at Westminster Village. We are fortunate to have two security staff covering this function and a third part-time person covering the weekend. WIFI Update— I just signed off on a $15,000 WIFI upgrade. We will be doing extra cabling and going from 3 to 30 access points. This should greatly improve the resident WIFI experience. ________________________ Indoor Visitation Jackie Brewer With the change in the weather, we have begun indoor visitation in all areas of our campus. Please note: indoor visitation will be held in designated areas, not in resident apartments, as we must be able to disinfect each area after a visit. Ac- cording to state and federal guidelines, we are allowed to offer indoor visitation as long as there has been no new facility coronavirus cases within the last 14 days. If we would have a resident test positive, it will close visitation for all areas. There will continue to be some rules de- signed to reduce the opportunity to spread the coronavirus: Following all state guidelines, masks must be worn at all time and people must social distance at 6’. Visits must be scheduled in advance so no walk-in visits will be permit- ted. We ask you to schedule no later than noon for the next day. Visits will be 45 minutes in length and will be held on the hour. If you are late arriving, you will need to leave at 45 minutes after the hour so that we have time to disinfect the area for the next visitor. Due to space constraints, visits will be limited to 2 visitors and children under age 12 are not permitted. We ask that you do not share drinks or food. Guests must check in at screening stations in advance of the visit. As we begin this program and un- til we understand demand, each resident will be able to schedule one visit per week. At this time thee are no dollars in FY 2020 or FY 2021 for additional ramps. When there are special requests made by residents, WVN is always willing to entertain a monetary gift for such projects. IL Resident Directory — The directory was last updated in March, 2020. We only update a couple times a year because it is 6 color pages and printing is expensive. An updated directory will be available next week. Touchtown Directory and Updates — The Touchtown Directory is completely up-to-date. If you see a lack of information it is because we only add what the resident provides or wants shared. We will be deleting some apps that are no longer used or needed. We are exploring some upgrades to our Touchtown program currently. The resident tablets are 6 years old and were a gift from the WVN Foundation. Health & Fitness Tip Kenzie England

Sugar is something most of us enjoy regularly and should not have to cut it out of our diet completely. There are better ways than others to get your “sugar fix” without eating those unhealthy sugars such as candy bars and sweet deserts. Fruit is a great way to suppress your sugar craving and while still maintaining a healthy diet. Things such as apples, bananas, and berries are delicious sweet treats that can replace unhealthy foods. If you crave something sweet on a daily basis, try substituting fruits three days a week then slowly work up to eating fruit more often than not.
