Whilst looking at Worcester University’s Art and Design course I felt inspired; getting that true sense of ‘ I can see myself here’. I believe studying at Worcester would allow me to embrace art in a new way and not only discover, but improve my techniques, thus inspiring and helping me to further grow into a more advanced artist.
Visiting the National Museum of Modern Art at the Centre Pompidou was the highlight of my trip to Paris. Not only the art inside the building but the art of the actual building itself fascinated me. Although after visiting the Centre Pompidou it has not had any direct affect on my art work, I really appreciated the building itself and have started to look at other buildings in a new light of significance.
The work I would deem to be my best is the charcoal study I did whilst studying war art. Named ‘The Protector’, I feel this is my best because I felt truly involved in this topic and enjoyed creating it. I am proud of this picture and I feel that this big study sparked more ideas that followed.
In my personal statement I mentioned that after studying and drawing inspiration from the German war artist, Kathe Kollwitz, a new interest of mine is to draw portraits.
Following are a couple of portraits originally drawn by Kathe Kollwitz herself and others I have created.
Rendition of Widows and Orphans (charcoal)
Rendition of Woman Thinking (pencil)
The Protector (charcoal & pastel)
Peasant Woman (graphite)
Peasant Woman with Lips (oil pastel on graphite photocopy)
Crowd of Oliver (graphite)
One topic I have studied is Landscape. These roses are development from looking at Salvador Dali and his Rose Meditative painting. The first drawing is done in ballpoint pen and the second in oil pastels.
Rose Painting (acrylic paint)
Traveling has always been a passion of mine. During my year out, one of many places I visited was been Laos, to trek through the jungle and volunteer at an orphanage. I always take photographs of my travels and store them for any future artistic creations or study.
Thank you for taking the time to view my electronic portfolio and thank you for your consideration on a place at Worcester.
