Welcome Back Everyone and Happy New Year!

hope everyone had a wonderful break but as a parent myself…it is definitely time to get

e kids back to school! Before moving on to second semester I want to share some data

ith you on where each class is currently sitt ing in regards to being on track for graduation.

e have some serious challenges ahead but we are prepared to support all our students

ward achieving their diploma. Over the Winter Break we had students recovering credits

our credit recovery labs and we also offered a science proficiency exam prep course for

niors. I would like to thank Mr. Schott, Mr. Kuhles, Ms. Mangan and Mr. Ronan for all

eir help supporting our students over break.

ere is a breakdown of our current stats. Though these stats currently show a downward

end—this is not unusual this time of year. Our data changes rapidly throughout each

mester as students pass their HSPE exams and credits are attained. We definitely have a

ountain to climb this spring but Reno High School will continue to work as a team with our

milies to support all of our students toward graduation. Please make sure you know the

urrent progress of your student(s) and if you need Infinite Campus Parent Portal Support,

ease notify Mrs. Kim Borders in our main office. (775-333-5050 or

    [email protected].

9th Grade Cohort Status: 88% on track for graduation

19 students mildly credit deficient, 28 moderately/severely credit deficient, 4 vanished

students. *Must pass all 4 EOC Exams

10th Grade Cohort Status: 86% on track for graduation

13 students mildly credit deficient, 46 moderately/severely credit deficient and 8 students

vanished.*Req. to take but not pass exit exams

11th Grade Cohort Status: 84% on track for graduation

22 students mildly credit deficient, 26 moderately/severely credit deficient, 13 vanished and

1 student dropped out. *Req. to take but not pass exit exams

12th Grade Cohort Status: 80% on track for graduation

Combo of credits or needing to pass 1 or more HSPE exams. This group of seniors have 18

vanished over their 4 years, 6 drop outs or GED.

*students who are listed “vanished” left RHS at some point during their 4 years and we

never received a records request from a new school. We continue to investigate.

    CELEBRATIONS AND NEWS AROUND CAMPUS

We the People Win Regionals and head to State

competition in Vegas in February. This is the first

time Reno HS has taken the Regional competition,

    beating Reed and Incline.

Senior Miranda Cross (and We the People

competitor) was 1 of 2 students selected

statewide to represent Nevada as a delegate to

the United States Senate Youth Program held in

    Washington, D.C. March 5-12th, 2016. The District

of Columbia and the Department of Defense

Education system overseas are selected through

    an extremely competitive merit-based selection

process held at the state departments ofeducation nationwide. Congratulations to

    Miranda!

Reno High School donated over 200 toys to the

Salvation Army with their Angel Tree efforts. We

would like to thank all the families who donated

and our Leadership class for facilitating such a

wonderful event. The picture below shows some

    of the toys donated.

    Important for families—please read!

To stay in compliance with FERPA

regulations and to protect our students

we will be implementing a new

procedure. All natural parents must fill

out and sign a form, available in our

    main office, allowing step-parents

    and registered domestic partners to

pick up their students. The form is

good for the remainder of this school

year. A new form must be completed

    each year.

    FASFA Workshops Offered January

12th and 21st in THE CUBE (RHS

College and Career Center) from 6-
