Jack Lynn VanOpDorp, 79, of Chattanooga, TN, formerly of Geneseo, passed into eternity on November 20, 2019, at Erlanger Hospital, Chattanooga. The public is welcome to a celebration of life that will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory –Geneseo Chapel. Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will follow the service at St. Anthony Cemetery, Atkinson. Military honors will be accorded by the VFW - Don Cherry Post. Memorials may be directed to the Jack VanOpDorp Memorial Fund.
Jack was born on October 10, 1940, the son of Walter (Walkie) and Marie (Neiswender) VanOpDorp, and brother to Nancy Calsyn, East Moline, David VanOpDorp, Bloomington, Tim VanOpDorp, Atkinson, Davette (Chuck) Malufka, Annawan, Melanie Opsal, Cindy Phlypo, Geneseo, and Walkie Lynn, Annawan. Jack proudly served in the United States Navy. He enjoyed collecting old books, photographs, and other unusual artifacts. He enjoyed learning the history of an item he collected.
Jack is survived by his five children, Gary VanOpDorp, Terrance (Terry) VanOpdorp, Barbara McNichol, Lawrence (Larry) and Jennifer Kriner; 15 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
