Primary Prom

The school orchestra were incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to

go to the Primary Prom at the Royal Albert Hall. We saw

professional orchestras and

listened to singers. I

particularly enjoyed listening to

the singing. It was really

inspiring and made us all

think that we should work

hard and do the best we can.

Rosary Group As it is the month of October, The Chaplaincy team and the staff organised a rosary group. We designed posters and stuck them around the school so that we could get more people to join and pray with us and Fr. Mark. We have been focusing on the luminous mysteries because as a school we are on ‘A Eucharistic Journey’ this year and the 5th luminous mystery is about the last supper when Jesus celebrated the first Mass and gives us his body and blood in the Eucharist. Harvest Collective Worship

During the month of October we have been collecting donations for Hammersmith &

Fulham Food Bank. We collected tins, cereal, rice, pasta and many more items. On

Tuesday morning the Chaplaincy Team planned and lead a special Harvest Collective

Worship for the children in Key Stage 2. We thought about those who are less fortunate

than ourselves and reflected upon the duty we have as Christians to reach out and

help others.

The earth is fruitful may we be generous. The earth is fragile may we be gentle. The earth is fractured may we be just.

Creating God, harvest in us joy and generosity as we together share in thanks and giving.

As a school we work hard to serve and help

others following in Jesus’ example of love.

Thank you to everyone who made a donation.

The food was collected this week and will help

lots of people in our local community.

Year 2 Harvest Assembly

We preformed our Harvest Assembly. We told a story about Max the Mouse, spoke about what Autumn is and reasons why Harvest is so important. We sang a lot of songs and had so much fun! “I loved singing all of the songs seeing my baby brother in the audience”. Agate Mercier, Class 2B “I said my line really loudly

International Day We all had a wonderful time celebrating International day at school. The children took part in a range of exiting activities including: face painting, flag making, garland threading, lantern making, research projects and many more. We enjoyed sharing information about the countries we were representing and talking about our costumes and colours.

Thank you to the PTA for organising such a wonderful International Day

celebration. The array of food available from the many different

countries represented in the school community was impressive and certainly

enjoyed by all. The atmosphere created was one of joy and excitement.

The voluntary donations collected on the day to support CAFOD’s Harvest

Fast Day totalled a wonderful £1087.98! Thank you to everyone for

supporting this worthy cause.

Black History Month

As part of our black history month work, all of the Key Stage 2 children had an amazing day of dance. We all learnt dances to a range of Motown songs and medleys. We then presented them to each other in a show at the end of the day. Motown stands for more than just music. Berry Gordy, as a young song-writer founded the music company with a loan of just $800 from his family. The distinctive, upbeat and uplifting music brought together pop and soul, old and young, regardless of race or social background. like never before.

I really enjoyed learning about different artists. My class danced to ‘Wait a Minute Mr Postman’ by The Marvelettes and ‘I want you back’ by the Jackson Five. Everyone joined in and we had loads of fun! By Misty Harris, Class 6G

Walter Tull

Year 6 have been learning about the life of Walter Tull. He was the first black footballer to play for Tottenham Hotspur and the first back outfield player. He eventually moved to Northampton Town, where he became a football hero - he even has a stand named after him. He joined the army as part of the Footballers Battalion and went to fight in World War One. He was well re-spected by his fellow soldiers, after leading them back to camp safely following numerous exploratory missions into the German territory. This led to him being promoted to the rank of Officer, something unheard of for a black soldier at the time. Unfortunately he died in battle and was unable to fulfil his role as an Officer or receive the Victoria Cross he so greatly deserved. By Ines Bertheuil, Class 6B

Black History Month - Year 5

Year 2 Gymnastics

Last half term we had gymnastics lessons with coach Ashley. The lessons were super fun because we got to jump, roll, stretch and balance. We also had a lesson in the Curve where we had to jump over each other and slide under. It was great! By Olivia Fery, Eleanore Lawson, Razel Matti, Class 2G

The Rosary

Father Mark came in to class to

teach us how and why to pray the

Rosary and also, other ways that we

can pray. He said “first, we make

the sign of the cross and then hold

the cross and pray The Creed.

After that, we say 1 Our Father, 3

Hail Mary’s and a Glory Be before

we say the decades. It helps us to

think about the mysteries of Jesus’ life.”

Key Stage 1 Drama

Perform Drama came in and we

did a lesson about the Clown who

lost his frown. My favourite part

was when we had to pretend to be

a clown and then be statues. We

got to do lots of acting and

played fun games. The drama

teacher was very funny when she

pretended to be the clown.

De Chateauvieux, Class 2G

Gaelic Football Event On Thursday 18th October the Gaelic Football Team went to Tir Chonnail Gaels Gaelic Grounds, Greenford, to play in a Gaelic Football Blitz. The grounds that we used to play were enormous and there was so much grass, it was like being in the countryside! When we arrived we got ourselves ready and we had a quick practice. Then we quickly played against St. Teresa’s school but they were a bit stronger than us, however we did our best and learned as we went on. We played 5 more matches throughout the day and we were triumphant in one of them. It was good to win that game because we all played very well, and we won because we passed the ball very carefully and we realised who we had to mark and were better at finding space. Some schools were very good and in some of the games we were just un-lucky – hitting the bar twice in one of the games. We really enjoyed this experience, and have learned a new sport in our PE lessons, and we hope we will get a chance to play again.

Members of our school choir formed a joint choir with St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School to perform as part of Holy Trinity Church’s ’Candle of Hope’ charity concert, on the evening of 12th October. The concert, in aid of persecuted Christians in the Middle East, was organised by Laurence Carroll (former pupil of the school) and consisted of an evening of music, readings and prayer. The children’s choir performed two beautiful pieces, Going Home and Into the West, the latter of which they were accompanied by the parish Family Mass Choir. The whole evening was a moving experience and the children worked exceptionally hard with Mrs. Teverson in advance, which enabled them to perform to such a high standard. To date the concert has raised over £9,000.

Mayor’s Cup - Larmenier & Sacred Heart Boys v Holy Cross Boys

Larmenier started with the kick off, they tried to push forwards but Holy Cross were strong and tackled them. Minutes later Holy Cross had the first shot of the game but Oliver (the goalkeeper) made a fantastic save and kicked it back over to Josh who had a shot but then the goalkeeper caught it. It was two more minutes of the first half and Shaun passed the ball to Pietro who then through balled it to Ben who was one on one with the goalkeeper. Ben had an attempt to shoot but once again the goalkeeper saved it. Then it was half time. Mr Kincaid had a chat with the boys and then the second half started. We had a much better start than the first half. Then Larmenier had a chance and the midfield passed the ball to Ben who had a very powerful shot at the goal and the goalkeeper couldn’t do anything about it and it went in. 1-0 to Larmenier. Then a couple of minutes later Holy Cross had a corner but it was swept away by Shaun. Then Joshua passed it to Pietro who went through one player and shot to the left side of the goalkeeper and it was another goal. 2-0 to Larmenier.

Holy Cross couldn’t keep up with us so soon after Larmenier were on the break again and then Pietro played the ball to Thomas who was one on one with the goalkeeper. Thomas tried to fit it underneath the goalkeeper but he made a great save once again. Ben was just there for the rebound, so it was an easy goal for him and he shot it in the back of the net. That was the third goal Larmenier were looking for. 3-0 to Larmenier. Finally the game ended and Larmenier had their second win in a row. Well done Larmenier & Sacred Heart!

Mayor’s Cup

Larmenier & Sacred Heart Girls v Holy Cross Girls

On Friday 5th October, the girls’ football

team went out to a football match against

Holy Cross School. We arrived there at

1.45pm and straight away we started warm-

ing up as it would soon be our turn to play.

When we were on the pitch we thought that

we would win but then turned out we lost!

Sofia, Ines and I tried to score but we were up

against a good goalkeeper. We ended the

match at around

3.00pm and we

came back to school

devastated. The

girls’ football team

have more matches

to play this season

and hopefully we will try our best to qualify

from the group in this year’s Mayor’s Cup.

Cross Country Report

On Wednesday 10th October the boys and girls Cross Country teams took part in the Hammersmith & Fulham Borough Event. It was a relay event with all competitors running 800 metres in turn. The girl’s team went first and we all ran exceptionally well which led to a sprint finish by Molly. By sprinting at the end she helped the girls finish third, against excellent competition, and she also broke a borough record by 4 seconds, which had stood since 2012.

The boys’ race was very exciting and nearly everyone was at the same stage after the first lap. However, over the next two laps we managed to pull away and this led to a very comfortable last lap. Eventually the boys won their event by 14 seconds.

It was a great day for both teams as it was the first time that we all returned home with medals. It shows that all the hard training we did paid off! By Hector Clay and Charlotte Storer, Class 6B

Brownlee Triathlon

When we arrived at Willesden Sports Centre we were met by an ambassador for the Brownlee brothers and we received free t-shirts and a goody bag. Then we got changed into our swimming costumes and we did a lap of the 25 metre swimming pool – meaning the swim was about 70metres long. Then we ran outside and we put our t-shirts and trainers on. We were given bikes by Johnny Brownlee (if you were lucky) and we cycled for two laps about 1000 metres. Then we returned the bikes and helmets and we did a sprint around a track about 250 metres long. The final stretch was a red indoor track. When we finished we received a medal from Alastair Brownlee (if you were lucky), along with a bottle of water, and yoghurt. When we all finished we had a photograph with Alastair Brownlee, and we stayed in our kits as we travelled back to school.
