Roar VBC is a camp your kids won’t want to miss!! Our church will be

transformed into an African jungle the week of June 24-28. VBC will

start at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. At Roar kids will discover that even

though life gets wild, God is good. Roar is filled with incredible Bible

learning experiences kids see, hear, touch, and even taste! Fun science

experiments, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are

just a few of the stand out activities that help faith flow into real life. Plus,

we’ll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life—

something we call God Sightings. Enrollment in Roar is limited, so register early. You may register in the

church office. Again this year the suggested donation for VBC is $10 per student or $20 per family. Enroll-

ment is limited to 60 elementary students (Grades Kindergarten-5th) and 15 pre-school (3 year olds through

Pre-K) students, so please register early.

If you would like to help feed the hungry herds at VBC we would appreciate your support. In-

side the automatic door entrance you will find a bulletin board with food items that are needed

at VBC. Take the item from the bulletin board and tape the paper to your donation. Donated

food items should be left on the counter, or in the black refrigerator in the Fellowship Hall

kitchen (basement) by Sunday, June 23. Thanks for helping us feed our hungry students.

Operation Kid to Kid is our VBC mission project. This year we are partnering

with World Vision to help moms and babies in Zambia, Africa. In developing

countries many moms and babies don’t have access to proper nutrition, plus

they often lack education and medical guidance to help babies get a good start

in life. Donations at VBC will help pregnant women in Zambia get the nutrition

and information they need in order to deliver healthy babies. Kids who thrive

before they're born, and who receive adequate nutrition as infants are better

prepared to stay healthy, fight infections, grow strong bodies, succeed in

school, get jobs as adults, and contribute to the prosperity of their communities.

If you would like to help make a long-lasting impact across the globe you are

welcome to contribute to this project. Just mark your donation for Operation

Kid to Kid.

Dear Friends; This edition of The Messenger is for June and July of 2019. As we head into June, and then July, first I wish to thank the Picture Directory Committee for it's great work. Chaired by Terry Brashears, the committee also consisted of Michelle Patten, Melanie Brashears, and Wendy Goodchild. We had over 150 households have their pictures tak-en or submitted. That is a tremendous number, and we are grateful for all the committee did to make it a success. You will be notified when the Directories arrive, hopefully in late Summer or early Fall. Of course, one great thing that June holds for our church is Vacation Bible Camp. You can read more about it elsewhere in this publication. Also, we will have one service in the Sanctuary at 10:00am on Sunday, June 30 (the fifth Sunday), with a potluck to fol-low in the Family Life Center. I am also grateful that we have the space to host the Storm Lake School System's Sum-mer Feeding Program throughout June and July. We know that during the school year, some kids have only one good meal per day, and that's at school. So, what do they do during the summer for a good meal? That's why our public schools provide a good, healthful, basic meal at lunchtime during the summer. God has blessed us to be able to provide a space for them to be fed! Speaking of being blessed, throughout the summer, we will be collecting back-packs and school supplies for B.L.E.S.S., (Bless and Love Everyone School Supplies). Please remember to bring things in before August 1st, as August 1st and 2nd are set up days, and August 3 is the distribution day. Kids will be blessed by God, through you, and have a much more secure, and focused learning experience because they'll have the sup-plies they need to help them be successful! Our colorful Giving Garden in the entry way is a unique way of

helping with church expenses and programs. You get to designate how

much and where your money goes. Here's how it works. Simply pick a

flower or leaf and pull it off the board, place the flower and your check

made out to UMC for the flower amount into the colored envelopes in

the basket on the table and place in the offering plate. Spring is finally

here so celebrate with flowers picked from The Giving Garden!

A variety of fun and interesting camping opportunities are offered by United

Methodist Camps. 2019 camping brochures are available in the church office. Reg-

istrations for camp should be brought to the church office so we can apply the schol-

arship from the church.

On August 5-9 our church will host our sixteenth annual English Language Camp.

Students entering first through fourth grades this fall are eligible to attend. The program

aims at enriching vocabulary through Bible stories and experiential learning. This program begins everyday

in the mornings with breakfast. If you would like to volunteer with this program as a teacher, cook, or

transportation provider please talk to Joan Rude.

On Sunday, May 12, our church recognized the honored four graduating seniors at the

baccalaureate Service: Ethan Courter, Jordan Loft, Ashlee Sammons, and Waylon

Stark. Ashlee Sammons was awarded a scholarship from our church. Congratulations

to these graduates. We are very proud of your achievements! May God’s guiding hand

be a very real presence as you begin a new chapter in your lives.

tor visit you in the hospital he needs to be contacted by you or a family member to let him know

you are there. If you are transferred from a care facility, they cannot tell him your whereabouts.

There are times in our lives when it is good to be prepared. Your Council on Ministries has invited a member of the Storm Lake Police Department to come on Sunday morning, June 30th, to share in-formation regarding safety procedures in our church building in case of a possible harmful in-truder. This will be a brief ten-minute presenta-tion following the 8:30 and 11:00 worship services and will be recorded for anyone who is not able to attend. On that same Sunday, June 30th, we will also hold trainings for our AED Defibrillator if you would like to know how to use that equipment. The defibrillator training will follow the safety training and will recorded for your convenience. If you have questions, please contact Priscilla Robin-son at 732-0093.

Saturday, August 3rd is sneaking up fast & that is distribution day for

B.L.E.S.S.! We are planning on helping up to 500 students or more with school supplies this year. Here’s a list of ways you

can be a part of this … * Donate supplies ~ simply drop them off in the church office * Adopt a student ~ pick up a card in the Narthex & follow instructions on it to help a student succeed * Cash donation ~ place a donation in the offering plate ~ please make sure it is marked for B.L.E.S.S. * Help move the supplies & set up for distribution Friday, August 2nd @ 1:00 pm in the Family Life Center * Volunteer to help on Distribution Day, Saturday, August 3rd @ 8:00 am until about noon * Pray for this ministry & all involved * Like & Follow BLESS on Facebook & Share the postings. Summer weather is upon us! Whether traveling, waiting for kids at practices or ball games, or re-

laxing at home, take advantage of the many books available in our church library. We do have quite

a collection of books on CD which are great for travel listening time.

The following NEW items were given by Circle #3 in memory of Joanne Boger. Joanne was an

avid reader and also donated many books over the years to our fiction section of the library.

Leave You Shattered by Lysa TerKeurst. The book on CD offers Biblical insight to get you

through painful situations and gives life perspectives to help when reality is different than

your own vision you had for yourself. (We also have the hard book copy.)

20 Ways to make Every Day Better by Joyce Meyer. This book on CD offers encourage-

ment, advice, and Biblical illustrations to help transform a “not so good” day into happi-

ness and contentment.

Unshakable Hope by Max Lucado. Hope can lift us out of fear and weariness.

This book on CD shares that the promise of God will give you the strength you

need. (We also have the hard book copy.)

DK Eyewitness Books: Butterfly and Moth. Joanne was fascinated and enjoyed

butterflies so this non-fiction book is full of wonderful pictures and infor-

mation for all ages of readers.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

This month we recognize and honor Carmen Moody for her volunteer work in our

church. Carmen often volunteers as a lay liturgist during worship. She is also an

active member of UMW where she serves as a mission coordinator for spiritual

growth. This year Carmen played a speaking role in the Last Supper Drama. She

also volunteers for the monthly kitchen cleaning and the monthly Messenger

assembly. Thank you Carmen for your faithful volunteer work. We greatly

appreciate your ministry in our church.
