THE FMF WAYFor over 45 years, Flemington Midget Football has provided instruction and support to thousands

of successful athletes. During that time, we have developed a unique culture, based around five

core beliefs that guide everything we do. “The FMF Way”, is what al lows us to successful ly

develop our athletes physical ly, mental ly and emotionally while providing them with positive

experiences and memories that wil l last a l ifetime. THE FMF WAY is:

FAMILYOnce a member, always a member

SAFETYAthlete safety first, last & always

TEACHINGCoaching is teaching

TEAMWEI not me

SUCCESSShare the work, share the reward

Team success is a by-product of coaches developing every athlete to their personal potential as

they progress through the program. Good teams become great when coaches view practice as an

opportunity to help their athletes grow and develop and when athletes view practice as an

opportunity to maximize their contribution to the team.

No one can win by themselves. We all have to trust and rely on each other for the team to be

successful. Both coaches & athletes must be prepared to do whatever is necessary for the good of

the team. Great teams are built on Teamwork, Dedication, Effort and Trust. . . lessons that wil l help

our athletes succeed in sports and in l ife.

I t is every coach’s responsibi l ity to teach the fundamental ski l ls and strategies of their sport to ALL

of their athletes. I t is every athlete’s responsibi l ity to put forth the effort to learn. I f an athlete gives

the effort, coaches must do whatever is necessary to help them learn and improve. Athletes that

progress through our program giving honest effort WILL enter high school with a competitive

advantage in skil ls and tactics

The health and safety of our athletes comes before everything else. Parents trust us with their

chi ldren; we must do everything in our power to return them safely. Athletes must let their coach

know if they are injured and must not return to action unti l they are ful ly ready.

Whenever an athlete competes as a Pioneer or Jr. Red Devil , they join a long tradition of

excellence. Many have come before us; we must honor their work by our actions. Many wil l come

after us; we must provide them with a program to be proud of. Once an athlete becomes part of

our FMF family, they wil l forever be welcome here.

TRYOUT

Flemington Midget Football is a 501 (c)3 organization dedicated to improving the youth of Hunterdon Countythrough competitive Football and Cheer. One of the oldest youth football organizations in the area, from our

founding in 1 967 through 201 0, FMF teams were exclusively known as the Flemington Pioneers. Since 2009, wehave undergone tremendous growth and have reclaimed our original name of FMF. In 2009, we added ourextended season competition cheer team. In 201 0, with the addition our Hunterdon Jr. Red Devils teams, ourfootbal l offerings were expanded from four football teams participating in one league to ten football teamsparticipating in three leagues. In 201 3 we were able to offer, for the first time, an Extended Season CheerTraining Squad for girls who were either too young or not yet prepared for the rigors of our Extended SeasonComp. Team. Thoughout al l of our recent growth, we have worked hard to stay true to our guiding principles ,"The FMF Way", and maintain our position as the premier youth football and cheer program in the central

Hunterdon region.

PIONEER VARSITYPioneers Shutout Warriors, Move Closer to Playoffs

Earning one of the WCMFL’s playoff berths is as

much an accomplishment as winning many other

league’s championships. Some critics questioned

whether the Flemington Pioneers Varsity footbal l team

was worthy of one of the league’s exclusive spots. On

Saturday, the Pioneers answered those critics with

authority by going into Pohatcong and coming out with a

resounding 28-0 shutout victory.

The Pioneers defense set the tone for the day on

the first series when Kareem Salam and Pasquale Vizzoni knifed through the Warrior l ine and

dropped the runner for losses on consecutive plays. Dan Furmato then added insult to injury

on the third play by knocking the quarterback out

of the game with a vicious sack. Coach Eggemann

seized on the momentum and went to the air. On

the first play, Justin Torres extended his

consecutive-game TD streak to five when Brian

Torres took a screen pass and streaked down the

right side behind the downfield blocks of Furmato,

RJ Thornton, and Joey Whalen.

Throughout the first half, the Pioneer defense

shut down the Pohatcong offense with Wil l iam

Markey, Colin Campbell , & Justin Metcalf stopping

the inside running game and Anthony Dempsey, Jordan Cameron, and Jake McPherson

blanketing the receivers. The defensive highl ight was a pick-six by RJ Thornton called back

on a Pioneer penalty. The Pioneer offense turned Thornton’s work into points by driving

down the field on runs by Furmato, Thornton and Brian Torres behind the dominating blocking

of Ryan Donovan, Vincent Tozzi and Myles Hickey. As the first half ticked down, the drive

ended with a Justin Torres QB

sneak touchdown and a Furmato

extra point kick, sending the team

into halftime with a 1 4-0 lead.

The Pioneers began the

second half the same way they

ended the first, with a dominating

ground game. Grant Bloch,

Jaylaan Taylor and Josh Gabriel

ran among the trees, bouncing off

PIONEER VARSITYtacklers and moving the chains. Thornton capped the drive with a two-yard plunge and

Furmato’s kick expanded the Pioneer lead to 22-0.

The defense continued to be stout

throughout the second half, and when Furmato

broke through for a 67-yard touchdown gallop on

the first play of the fourth quarter, the only thing

left in doubt was the shutout. The Warriors drove

deep into Pioneer territory as the game wound

down, but group tackles by Andrew Wil l iamson,

Frank Dolan, Josh Gabriel and Justin Portnoy set

up a fourth and goal from the Pioneer one yard

l ine. Alex Dimartino blitzed up the middle and

forced the ball carrier wide while Jake McPherson slashed through the l ine and dropped him for

a loss, preserving the shutout for the Pioneers.

The stakes wil l be high at this weekend's Pioneer Homecoming. The win sets up a de

facto playoff game against the Steele Hil l Bul ldogs this weekend. One team wil l earn the fourth

and final WCMFL playoff berth with a win. The other wil l see their season come to an end. All

present and former Pioneer famil ies are invited to show their Pioneer Pride at 8pm on Saturday

night at the FMF Complex.

On 1 0/1 8, the Skylands Varsity Junior Red

Devils were defeated by Somervil le/Branchburg

United by a score of 26-0. Coming off a big win

against Phil l ipsburg last week, the JRD were

unable to sustain that momentum against the

tough, speedy SBU team. The game started with

the JRD kicking to SBU. On the 1 st play from

scrimmage, SBU ran for a 68 yd TD. A failed extra

point made the score 6-0. On the JRD's opening

possession from their own 36, Chris Schwoerer picked up 3 yds . On 2nd down, Schwoerer

was dropped for a loss back to the 38. On 3rd down, Micah Dumornay took Brad Tottens

handoff, but was tackled back at the 36 forcing a Luke Pizzico punt. Pizzico's punt drove SBU

back to their 28. SBU was able to drive into JRD territory, but on 4th down, the aggressive

defense of Tim Hough, Christian Callahan, Nick McClel lan,

Mike Sposato, Jason Cozzi, Chris Lalas , and Luke Bakerian

(back off the injured l ist) were able to stop SBU at the JRD 45.

SBU's strong defense stopped Bakarian for a 5 yd loss, and

Pizzico was sacked for 1 0 more back to the 30. On 3rd down,

Schwoerer picked up 2 yds and Pizzico again was forced to

punt. SBU received the punt and ran it back for another score.

The extra point missed again and SBU now had a 1 2-0 lead.

After the kickoff, the JRD starting at their 30, settled down and

began moving the ball upfield. With the offensive l ine of Kurt Rainey, Jake Saracinel lo,

McClel lan, Sposato, Cozzi and Lalas leading the blocking, Dumornay started things off with a

1 7 yd run to the 47. Totten found Callahan open in the SBU secondary for an 1 8 yd

completion to the SBU 35. A penalty against SBU added 5 yards to the 30. On 1 st and 5, SBU

intercepted a pass and ran the ball back for another touchdown. The extra point was good

and the lead was increased to 20-0.

The 2nd quarter opened with SBU kicking off

to the JRD 30. Two runs by Dumornay and one by

Callahan failed to get a first down and Pizzico came

on again to punt. A good punt drove SBU back to their

39. The JRD defensive l ine contained runs by SBU

and the secondary of Jaiden Taylor, Randy Yang,

Schwoerer and Max Kurdyla blanketed their

receivers, forcing SBU to punt. The punt was blocked

by Pizzico and recovered by Bakarian at the SBU 22. With their best field position of the

night, Dumornay gained a couple to the 20. A 3rd down pass was incomplete, but a 4th down

run by Pizzico to the 1 0 gave the JRD new life. Two runs by Dumornay to the 2 was all the

JRD could do as an incomplete pass and a 4th down sack stopped the drive. The half ended

with SBU sti l l up 20-0. Halftime entertainment was provided by the always exciting and

talented FMF varsity cheerleaders. A wonderful show was appreciated by the JRD and SBU

fans alike. Thanks again girls for your wonderful support.

The 2nd half opened as the JRD took the kickoff up to their 27. Two runs for no gain

and an incompletion brought on yet another Pizzico punt. A good return by SBU to the JRD

37 gave SBU great field position. SBU completed the

series with another touchdown and a blocked extra point.

They now led 26-0. With the JRD staring at their 28,

Schwoerer picked up 2 yds, but a fumble was recovered

by SBU. On the next play, Pizzico recovered a fumble at

the 33. Schwoerer ran for 3 yds, but a penalty cost the

JRD 1 0 yds back to the 23. On 1 st and 20, a Totten pass

was incomplete. Taylor tried an end around for no gain. A

sack back to the 1 5 brought up 4th down. A JRD penalty

moved the ball further back to the 1 0 where Pizzico

punted out to the JRD 43 as the quarter ended.

4th quarter action started with SBU at the JRD 43.

With Randy Behn, Rowan Quintero and Alex Sias providing

added help on the l ine and in the secondary, the JRD

stopped SBU at the 35. On 1 st down, Bakarian powered his

way to the 48. On 2nd down, a JRD fumble was recovered

by SBU at the 45. But, again, tough defense forced SBU to

punt. The punt rol led back to the JRD 1 9. Pizzico and

Dumornay picked up yardage to bring the ball up to the

JRD 44. A 4 yard run by Dumornay to the 48 was fol lowed

by a 47 yd pass completion from Totten to Schwoerer down

to the SBU 5. With a l ittle over a minute left in the game and

with 1 st and goal, Pizzico was stopped for no gain. On 2nd

down, Dumornay was hit hard and a loose ball was

recovered by SBU. Dumornay, who was injured on the play,

was forced to leave the game. The JRD players and

coaches, more concerned with Dumornays injury, let the

remaining minute run out ending the game with a final score

of SBU 26 JRD 0.

PIONEER JVThe Flemington Midget Football League Junior

Varsity team met up with the Pohatcong Warriors on the

Warrior’s home turf on Sunday. The first quarter saw one

touchdown by the Warriors which they had to work hard

for. After getting within 3 yards of the endzone, the

Warriors were first held back by Owen Bil l , then by Sean

Reil ly on the next attempt. Ultimately they scored, but were

not successful in their extra point attempt.

In the second quarter Kevin Reil ly, Aidan Portnoy, Aaron Importico, and Brandon

Mullen each took down the ball carrier to try to hold off another touchdown by the

Warriors, but despite the impressive Pioneer defense Pohatcong again scored but were

again denied the extra point.

In the third quarter Avery Gould and Dylan

Gabriel worked hard to hold the Warriors back,

while Jake “Soup” Campbell paired up with ball

carriers Owen Bil l and Vincent Luciano to try to

run the ball in. Although the offense was

unable to score, the defense did manage to

prevent further scoring by the Warriors.

In the fourth quarter defenders Seth

Gould, Nick Robben, and Logan Arteaga each

brought down a Pohatcong ball carrier holding the Warriors at 1 2 points, and Logan Burk

caught a pass play and ran for the endzone for a Pioneer touchdown. The extra point was

run in by Vincent Luciano. Unfortunately a pass attempt by the Pioneers with 1 8 seconds

left in the game was intercepted by Pohatcong which essential ly ended the game. The

final score was 1 2-7.

The Pioneers wil l take on the always tough Steele Hil l Bul ldogs at the FMF

Complex on Saturday 1 0/25. At halftime of the Peewee game, FMF wil l celebrate

Homecoming for graduating 8th graders. Come out and show your support!

The Flemington Pioneers Flag Football Team had a stel lar 5-4 win

against the Warriors in Pohatcong on Sunday. The Wolverine Defense set

the tone for the game as they prevented any scoring by the Warriors

during their first possession. Connor Hoffman took the snap for a

quarterback keeper to complete the first Pioneer possession in a 25-yard

run touchdown. The Warriors would answer back with a score of their

own, but the Pioneers were quick to respond with Joey Pasquale scoring

a touchdown on the next Pioneer possession. Again, the Pioneers

prevented another score with a sack by Andrew Cella, which thwarted a

reverse play. The Pioneer Hulk Offense was in ful l effect with big runs by

Nathan Campbell , Ned Johnson, Dylan Blackmore, and Michael Brunetti .

Ethan Washington completed the possession with a 1 6-yard Touchdown.

The Pioneers put up a formidable defense with the help of Kasey Kinsley,

Connor Damon, and Alexander Saus, who made big stops and Matthew

Damon who stopped the Warrior drive with a sack in the backfield.

Pohatcong would eventual ly score again, however, with seconds left in

the first half, Joey Pasquale would run 80 yards for another Pioneer

touchdown leaving the score at 4-2 with the Warriors driving the ball

down the field.

The second half opened with much

excitement as Ethan Washington scored again for the Pioneers

with the help of Wil l iam Fiore, Trent Tinnes, Calvin Cayero, and

Troy Arteaga. The Warriors were able to get another 2

touchdowns on their next successive possessions, but the

Pioneers were able to hold onto their 5-4 lead in an exciting

victory.

The Pioneers wil l take on the always tough Steele Hil l Bul ldogs at the FMF Complex on

Saturday 1 0/25. At halftime of the Peewee game, FMF wil l celebrate Homecoming for graduating

JAMES L. "JIMMY" WILSONOur Number One Fan

Jimmy Wilson left a lasting memory with everyone who visited Pioneer Field throughout the 1 980's and early1 990's. While his wheelchair kept him from taking part on the field, it couldn't keep him from being part of theteam. At the end of every summer, l ike the changing of the seasons, Jimmy was there to usher in footbal l

season. He was as much a part of the Pioneer family as the crack of pads echoing through the crisp autumn airand the roar of the crowd on game day. For close to a decade, Jimmy never missed a game, indeed, he nevermissed a practice in al l of his time with us. His love for the game and for the team was infectious and wil l beforever remembered. In 1 994, after his passing, the organization recognized Jimmy's contribution to our family

by naming the playing field after him and retiring the number one jersey, in memory of their #1 fan.

JOSEPH YASHKAS6/4/85 - 4/29/00 : Forever a Pioneer

Joey Yashkas was a Pioneer through and through. He played football for the program and was a greatteammate and a key member of the team from his peewee days through his eigth grade season. As much ashe loved football and his teammates, Joey also loved racing motorcycles. I t was this love that took Joey from usfar too soon. After the tragic motorcycle accident that took his l ife in 2000, the organization retired his number55 and decreed that in remembrance of Joey and Jimmy, their numbers 1 and 55 be painted in the corner of the

endzone for every home game so that they wil l always be part of our family.
