It will use music as a catalyst to present the historical facts around the 1916 period. It will be delivered at 4 locations across the Newry, Mourne and Down Council Area. The first event will be held in Newtownhamilton High School on Friday 22nd April at 8.00pm. A talk will be given by Dr Robert Whan a lecturer in Irish history at Queen’s University Belfast. He is also involved in the delivery of projects being carried out at a number of Northern Ireland museums, including Ulster Museum in Belfast, the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra and the Ul- ster American Folk Park in Omagh. He is the History Engagement Officer for the "Living Legacies 1914-1918" Centre, which is based at Queen's University, Belfast. In 2014-2015 he co-ordinated a Heri- tage Lottery funded project for Newry and Mourne Museum/Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, which examined local impacts of the First World War. Musical accompaniment will be provided by Denver Pearson and Tullyvallen Silver Band. Recently 14 people from the area completed a Good Relations training course. The course covered cultural diversity, positive relations and looking forward to the future. It also provided an in- sight into how easy it is to prejudge a situation. Applicants who complete the assessment will receive an OCN Level 2 qualification. The project was funded by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council. County Armagh Community Development in partnership with Altnaveigh House Trust have recently received funding form Newry, Mourne and Down Council for a project entitled 1916 Through Music and Song. It will use music as a catalyst to present the historical facts around the 1916 period. It will be delivered at 4 locations across the Newry, Mourne and Down Council Area. The first event will be held in Newtownhamilton High School on Friday 22nd April at 8.00pm. A talk will be given by Dr Robert Whan a lecturer in Irish history at Queen’s University Belfast. County Armagh Community Development facilitated a Study Visit to Kilkeel. The day began with a visit to the Reivers House home of the Schomberg Society. James Donaldson gave an informative talk on how the Schomberg Society was established. Roberta Heaney youth worker at Schomberg Society the gave a presentation on the wide range of activities and classes running at the Reivers House. The group was then entertained by Kirknarra School School of Dance and Roberta Heaney on fyfe accompa-nied by Jasmine Cullen on the Lambeg drum. After this the group travelled on to Hanna’s Close - a ’Claghan’ of individual cottages at the foot of Mournes. Built in 1600’s a noticeable feature of the Close is that the cottages only have a front door facing into the centre of the Close and only small windows facing the surrounding countryside, this was designed to protect them against attacks. The close was extensively renovated with the aid of funding and cottages are now marketed as holiday lets.

County Armagh Community Development have been awarded £9887.00 from Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s Financial Assistance Scheme to cover core running costs such as rent, heat and lighting for 2016-2017..

a Muscial Variety Concert on Friday 15th April 2016 at 7.30pm in Kildarton Church Hall. All proceeds in aid of Neurological Ward at RVH and NI Cancer Fund for Children.

Participants from Churchhill Community Development Association who recently completed the Open College Network-accredited Level 2 course “Impact of Ulster Scots in Ulster”, at the Isaac Memorial Hall, Loughgall; it was facilitated by Deirdre Speer-Whyte and Charles Neville of the Ulster Scots Community Network.

Upper Bann Community Association are pleased to announce they have been offered £9660.00 from Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Coun-cil’s Financial Assistance Scheme to run a Boyne Anniversary Festival in Portadown in the run up to the 12th Commemorations.
