Home Economics

This week the year 10 Home

Economics GCSE group were

set the challenge to make

chocolate éclairs, a dish which

requires a variety of practical

skills and deep concentration.

Were they up to it? Would the

éclairs puff, the cream whip up

and the chocolate melt

perfectly? Here are some of

their results……

B-RIGHT-ON We are delighted with the

variety of challenges the B-

RIGHT-ON page on the portal

has offered your daughter this

term. The photograph shows

part of Ella Palmer's response to

the recent Economics

challenge: "What has

economics got to do with

fashion?” Ella wins B-RIGHT-ON

glory ...and ten points to

Lyttelton. The new challenge

goes "live" today so check out

this exciting portal page. And

don't forget every week there is

a new brain tickler - last week

Mr Sherwood went anagram-

mad! B-RIGHT-ON: it really is

zumba for the brain!

NEWS FROM NEVERLAND The Neverland photo studio at the November Fair was a huge hit

and kickstarted our fundraising for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

We are really excited about today's costumes too! Thanks to

everyone who made the effort to dress up today - all today's

money goes to GOSH. Rehearsals for next week's much-

anticipated 'Peter Pan' are intense and every member of the

cast definitely believes in fairies now...and mermaids....and

Captain Hook...and alarm clock-swallowing crocodiles...and

definitely Peter Pan. Come fly with us next week! Tickets are still

(just) available via Parent Pay or Mr Sherwood for both nights -

Thursday 13th and Friday 14th December - at £6 and £5

concessions. This is an energetic pantomime designed to make

you smile and laugh and boo - don't miss it! Individual Success

JUNIOR EDITORIAL

Dear Parents,

We are now fully in the

spirit of Christmas

following the wonderful

Year 1&2 play, ‘It’s a

baby. And the ‘Whoops

a Daisy Angel’,

performed Nursery and

Reception classes. Both

brought a tear to the eye

and a smile to the face

and we were so proud of

the way the girls

performed.

My sincere thanks to the

staff who year upon year

create productions of

such quality.

We are looking forward

to seeing many of you

next Wednesday at the

KS2 service at the Church

of the Good Shepherd.

Best wishes

Sian Cattaneo

Carol

Concert

Wednesday

12th

December

If you haven’t yet let the school

know whether you will be

coming and will need tickets,

time is running out!

Please let us know your plans as

soon as possible.

The Carol Concert involves all

girls from year 3 to 6. We will be

escorting all girls in these year

groups to the Church Of The

Good Shepherd on

Wednesday afternoon for a run

through before the start of the

concert.

If you would like to come to our

carol concert and have

younger siblings you would like

to bring, this is not a problem.

Please let us know and we will

issue you with more tickets.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUB

FOLLOWING THE CONCERT:

Please let the school

office know whether

you still require a

place in the ASC for

your daughter.

NURSERY PARENTS TOUR

We are very proud of our

school and of the great

teaching and learning that

goes on in all our classes. We

were really pleased to be able

to demonstrate last Thursday

morning many of the

opportunities available in the

Early Years and Key Stage 1.

A big thank you to all the

Nursery parents who took time

to come and join us and see for

themselves what is on offer and

how smooth the transition is for

girls as they progress through

the school.

YEAR 2

On Wednesday, the girls in Year

2 who have been learning to

play the ukulele, performed to

the rest of their year group. The

girls played beautifully and

everyone in

Year 2 really

enjoyed it!

POPPY APPEAL

Thank you very

much for helping

with our Appeal. The Junior

School collected at staggering

£83.07.

ZIG ZAG LINES

It has been brought to our

attention (from our own parents

and staff) that some Parents

are still parking on the Zig Zag

lines. This was noticeable on a

Friday when our Swimming

Coach is trying to drop off our

Year 3 pupils. Please can we

again ask you to refrain from

parking immediately outside

school gates or in this

immediate area. There are

plenty of places to park and

walk and you are running the

risk of being fined.

SPORTING RESULTS FOR WEDNESDAY 6th DECEMBER

The Under 9 ‘A’ team were on good form against a team from St. Bede’s, Eastbourne,

who were playing their first match. BHHS showed good ball handling skills and began

to use the width of the court to good effect. Despite the cold weather, they maintained

their momentum and some good shooting from Bonnie White earned a good score of

14-0. Player of the Match was Bonnie White.

The Under 11s against St Bede’s. Well played to everybody as it was very cold. However,

everyone worked well as a team, both teams equally matched but with some good scoring

from BHHS that was the deciding factor. A win for us 10-5.

The Under 10 ‘A’ against Windlesham of Findon. The opposition was a well drilled team but on this

occasion it was obvious BHHS needed to be more accurate with their passing and shooting and,

unfortunately, we lost 10-1. On a good note, however, a strong performance from the ‘B’ team, and we

would like to give a huge vote of thanks to Maddie Cooper who stepped in at the last minute. With the

addition of Maddie there was some re- arranging of the team and we managed a healthy 11-2 win.

END OF TERM CLOSURE - Remember that it is half day on 19th December – 12.00 for KS1 and 12.15 for KS2

Early Years surpassed themselves at their performance in ‘Whoops a Daisy Angel’. The set of costumes were magnificent and the girls thoroughly enjoyed performance.

Key Stage 1 did a fantastic performance of “It’s a Baby!” on Tuesday, to a packed hall of their special guests. All the girls looked wonderful in their costumes and sang their hearts out in every song. They spoke clearly and acted beautifully, really getting into role. The girls really enjoyed it, so much so that some of them were sad that they couldn’t do it again the following day! The performance certainly got everyone involved into the Christmas spirit. Thank-you again to all their parents who helped the girls to learn their lines and provided such lovely costumes.
