About me

Hi everyone! I’m IR-Pridestalker, a Rengar main who startedplaying LoL since Lucian’s patch. I may not be a pro, but I

definitely know about Rengar. After trying different builds

with him, I believe assassin build is the best. You can dish out

tons of damage in a short time before your target can react.

This is my first guide on MOBAFire, so please comment if you’re

going to Up/Down vote and let me know if there’s anything I

can do to improve this guide.

P.S: Sorry for my bad English. It’s not my native language.

To put it in a nut shell...

Pros / Cons

Rengar is a solid choice in solo queue if played as an

1 shot assassin. His high front-end burst out of

ultimate/jump lets him eliminate enemy squishies in a

matter of seconds, and later on in the game even the

tanks. The recent rework also has changed his ultimate

mechanic, allowing him to use 3 different 'maximized'

combos out of ultimate, instead of just 1 (triple Q pre-

rework).

Cons - Squishy

- Easily focused

- Weak without brushes and

ferocity

- Hard to master

Rengar is weak against an arranged team play, as a

coordinated group of 5 will not only have Vision

Wards constantly, but they'll have Oracle's Lenses as

well as peel their squishies properly (and APCs will

counterbuild with Zhonya's Hourglass). Also,

Rengar is prone to CC, makes him an easy target if

stays in a fight for a long time.

Summoner Spells

For Jungler, Smite is mandatory. You need it to clear jungle camps, kill monsters, or steal them

from enemy (:P).

Flash is just self explanatory; it can be used to hop over walls, go in a bush and use Unseen

Predator for gap-closing, get out of bad situations, etc.

You can also take Exhaust instead of Flash. It allows you to have better control in the enemy's

jungle, and do some big plays similar t o t his (skip to 2:50):

Greater Mark of Armor Penetration: I prefer these runes over Greater Mark of Attack Damage

since it scales better as the game progresses and you can take out tanks easier. It may be harder to

jungle without flat AD runes, but it'll guarantee a stronger mid-late game.

Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage: These will increase your early game damage. Armor

pen quints don't scale as well as marks, and if you go full armor pen, You'll almost deal no damage

and your early game will be ruined.

Greater Seal of Armor: It helps a lot against jungle camps and enemy's physical damage. You

can also take Greater Seal of Scaling Health since Rengar has good base armor.

Greater Glyph of Magic Resist: Thanks to new Essence Reaver, you don't need to sacrifice

defensive stats for lower cooldowns. Since your build doesn't contain any resistances, these may

come handy. I'm sure you don't want to get melted by those AP carries ;) .

Savagery is your main burst ability, max first. Maxing Savagery first

provides lesser cooldown; allowing you to generate ferocity faster (the

cooldown on Battle Roar and Bola Strike both remain constant

regardless of level, so leveling those first gives NO BENEFIT to your passive

ferocity stacking). After that, max Bola Strike for more slow and

damage. In the end, max Battle Roar for more defensive stats. You don't

need to max Battle Roar second because you're playing assassin style and

Battle Roar doesn't provide much damage.

Level 1-2 Skill Order: Take Savagery at level 1 as explained above. Level2, you can take Bola Strike if you have kill potential in lane or you are

planning to invade. If you need sustain to continue jungling or you have low

health in lane, consider taking Battle Roar at level 2.

Ability Explanation

Unseen Predator

This ability is amazing, and if you want to win lane phase, master its intricacies. If you want to win as

Rengar, learn to control the brush. Remember, passive works for 0.5 second out of brush, so the

faster you are the farther you can leap.

Savagery

Use this as an auto-attack reset, but why? First off, it's important because it maximizes your overall

damage. An auto-canceled Q negates the windback on an auto-attack, saving time between the two

hits. In order to do it, you use Q the very instant the damage occurs from your auto-attack.

Empowered Savagery

Same as Savagery, but with more damage. Use it if you want to burst someone. It's also good for

dueling, as it grants heavy AS and AD buff.

Battle Roar

Provides nice defensive stats. Good thing about Battle Roar is that you can gain more defense

based on enemies and monsters around.

Empowered Battle Roar

Provides nice sustain in the lane and jungle. Remember that you heal based on your missing HP, so

try to use it when your health reaches critical levels.

Bola Strike

Very useful in ganking as it gives a bit time to reach your target. You can also use it to execute low HP

enemies. Remember to blind shot jungle camps or minions so you can keep your ferocity stacks

high.

Empowered Bola Strike

Applies a slow on top of the root (although video doesn't show it. It was a bug that fixed in v4.11).

Use it when your jungler ganks or you want to gank a lane. Most of times, a good Empowered Bola

Strike will guarantee the kill.

This is especially important

early levels. Really emphas

Thrill of the Hunt

ALWAYS remember to scan the minimap when you use it. Don't tunnel vision into the enemy mid

while ganking them, as sometimes little Lee Sin will be burning all his abilities on the Raptor

camp, turning him from a slippery champ into a delicious meal all because of your decision to pay

attention to the free information your ult is giving you.

>> Hunter's Machete is a must for jungle. It helps out in the jungle and builds into

the jungle item. Get either Stalker's Blade or Tracker's Knife, but remember to

replace it with Youmuu's Ghostblade for super late game.

Health Potions are better than Refillable Potion, because they give more health

which makes jungling a lot easier. Refillable Potion's upgrades both contain mana,

which is a wasted stat on Rengar.

>> I generally prefer Warding Totem early, as extra vision is huge early game, and

you can't expect to find much wards with a Sweeping Lens until later, when your

opponents have the gold to actually purchase them regularly (and Sightstone on the

support).

However there are 3 exceptions. First: If I face a hyper-carry, like Jax and I've got a

very good ganker like Gragas (pretty much anyone with solid CC), I rather vision

control instead of vision for myself, since this causes their gameplay to be more

dangerous, and because they value gold above all other things, when they get denied

CS, they are punished hard. Second: I'm playing against Shaco or Teemo , and

Sweeping Lens stops their boxes and mushrooms from activating! Similar to this

this upgrade gives 2 wards already.

>> Enchantment: Warrior is your powerspike, even though it doesn't have armor

penetration anymore, it'll boost your damage A LOT. Take Boots of Speed for faster

roaming.

>> Tiamat adds most burst early game. New Essence Reaver grants

30% CDR if you pair it with a Zeal. You can either get Boots of Mobilityor Boots of Swiftness. Both of them give enough mobility to chase your

target.

>> These items add a nice amount of magic damage to your burst. You can even get

both of them for maximum crit chance if you don't need CDR (replace with Essence

Reaver). Remember, Energized passive is not UNIQUE; thus, the magic damage will

stack! Also, keep in mind that Rapid Firecannon's passive doesn't work on

Rengar's leap range.

>> It's time to upgrade your Tiamat. I recommend getting Ravenous Hydra for

early game and swapping it with Titanic Hydra later (you can freely exchange them

now), because it grants more tankyness and damage. Titanic Hydra's active lets you

reset your auto attack, and since you'll have a lot of crit chance, you can deal tons of

damage to your target. However, Ravenous Hydra is much better for extended

skirmishes, since you'll need additional sustain to survive. In the end, remember to

build accordingly.

>> Buy Infinity Edge if your enemies are not getting armor. Otherwise, go

for one of the Last Whisper's upgrades. As I mentioned before, replace your

jungle item with Youmuu's Ghostblade if you've reached late game.

This is my recommended build for you. It adds tons of survivability and damage. Here are the approximate stats

and damage you can deal with this build:

TL; DR

are core items and should be in all of final builds ( Tiamat represents Hydra

upgrades).Take Ravenous Hydra for better sustain in long-time fights. Otherwise, buy Titanic Hydra.

If you don't care about CDR and just want to do more on-hit damage, buy Rapid Firecannon

instead of Essence Reaver

If you want guaranteed critical strikes (100%), replace Trinity Force with Rapid Firecannon.

Unique Passives

Bonetooth Necklace

Rengar collects trophies whenever he scores a kill or assist and gains bonus effects based on how

many trophies he has. Each kill/assist grants one trophy:(3 Trophies) Rengar gains 25 flat movement speed while out of combat or while in brush.

(6 Trophies) Unseen Predator's range is increased by 125.

(12 Trophies) Thrill of the Hunt's stealth duration is increased by 5 seconds.

(20 Trophies) Thrill of the Hunt's bonus movement speed while stealthed is doubled.

VS.

As part of the event The Hunt Is On!, Rengar and Kha'Zix are assigned to defeat one another

in battle. The first to score a kill on the other claims victory (assists count). The event begins

randomly after Kha'Zix has used all 3 evolution points and Rengar has at least 10 stacks on his

Bonetooth Necklace, and all members of both teams must be alive for the event to start.

If Kha'Zix is victorious, he gains a fourth evolution point.

If Rengar is victorious, his Bonetooth Necklace is replaced with Head of Kha'zix, which grants

him the bonuses of a fully stacked Bonetooth Necklace and Rengar gains increased vision range

while in a brush.

This event can only occur once per game, even if both teams possess both champions. A video

The first trick I want to discuss is auto Q, you simply use the brush to jump on your opponent in lane, and then

reset your auto attack with Savagery. Another type of auto Q is known as auto-attack reset (read "Ability

Explanations" section). It's important because it deals more damage compared to Savagery, and lowers the

time between attacks. Becuase of that, you should ALWAYS use auto Q instead of just using Savagery.

However, there are some exceptions (read Matchups Section). You should be trying to do this a couple of times at

level 1 to ensure your opponent is low enough for a level 2 cheese.

Level 2 Cheese

Level 2 Cheese occurs when a solo lane that is pushing will hit level 2. Most of champions can do this, and it's not

uncommon for players to try and push early so they can hit level 2 before their opponent laner. Although many

champions can do this, I personally believe that Rengar's level 2 cheese is one the strongest in the game. You

need to gather 3-4 ferocity stacks and do the following combo on an enemy laner who's already been auto Qed

3 Stacks Combo:

1. Jump on the target and use Bola Strike mid air;

2. Use Savagery;

3. Use Empowered Savagery.

4 Stacks Combo:

1. Jump on the target and use Bola Strike mid air;

2. Use Empowered Savagery;

3. Use Savagery.

If your target is still alive, he will Flash to safety (in most of times). You can either follow up with Flash /

Exhaust and kill him or keep your spells for later. Even if you don't kill him, you'll force him to recall or play

passively, which gives him a disadvantage.

Bola Strike Mid Air

If you've read Level 2 Cheese section, I said "Jump on the target and use Bola Strike mid air". Basically you can

throw your bola while you are in mid leap as long as you leave your cursor over the enemy champion, you still

have to aim it of course (OR you can use auto-cast for Bola Strike), but this allows you to chase so much easier

as you do not need to stop moving your champion to land bola. Also, if you want to perform a 1-shot as Rengar,

you need to land this ability mid leap.

The Perfect 1-Shot

Rengar's infamous combo. You can use it to DELETE your targets just after breaking stealth, giving them

almost NO TIME to react. Here's what you do:

1. Get 5 ferocity stacks;

2. Use Thrill of the Hunt;

3. Activate Youmuu's Ghostblade (if you have);

4. Activate Empowered Savagery before you leap;

5. Leap to the target;

6. Mid leap use Bola Strike, then Tiamat and Battle Roar near landing;

7. Target Deleted :).

THE PERFECT 1-SHOT

Triple Q

Here's another type of 1-shot, but its main purpose is using Savagery 3 times, not just killing target:

1. Get 5 ferocity stacks;

2. Use Thrill of the Hunt;

3. Activate Empowered Savagery before you leap;

4. Leap to the target;

5. Mid leap use Bola Strike, then Tiamat;

6. Use Battle Roar and auto Q;

7. Auto Q again;

8. Enjoy delicious kills :).

I'd like to call it perma-CC. This is the highest amount of CC Rengar can have:

1. Get 5 ferocity stacks;

2. Use Thrill of the Hunt;

3. Use Empowered Bola Strike before you jump (You'll still have 0.5 second to leap);

4. Leap to the target;

5. Use Savagery, Battle Roar and Bola Strike (reach full ferocity as fast as you can);

6. Use Empowered Bola Strike again.

You can use this combo if you're planing to play AP rengar, or you need a lot of healing for a 2v2 (your and their

jungler) or during a jungle gank:

1. Get 5 ferocity stacks;2. Use Thrill of the Hunt;

3. Use Empowered Battle Roar (You need to be near your target);

4. Leap to the target;

5. Use Savagery, Battle Roar and Bola Strike (reach full ferocity as fast as you can);

6. Use Empowered Battle Roar again.

Brush Kiting

Thanks to Unseen Predator, you can kite enemies with brush, as seen in here:

BRUSH OUT-PLAY

Jumping Over Walls

Rengar can hop over walls using Unseen Predator. Place a ward next to a jungle camp and get inside a brush

over the wall, then simply attack the monsters. However, make sure they're inside your circle. Also, when your

Bonetooth Necklace reaches 6 Trophies, use the extra range on your passive to make this wall-hopping easier:

JUMP OVER WALLS

I hate mobility

This combo is similar to triple E. It can be used against high mobility targets that can use their gap-closers to

escape from you:

1. Get 5 ferocity stacks;

2. Use Thrill of the Hunt;

3. Activate Youmuu's Ghostblade (if you have);

4. Mid leap use Empowered Bola Strike, then Tiamat and Battle Roar near landing;

5. Auto Q;

6. Land a Bola Strike.

No Ferocity Combo

If you didn't have time to get any ferocity stacks up (maybe because that you have to defend your inhib) and

you need to kill somebody even though you don't have any ferocity, use this combo. It's a bit similar to the perfect

combo, but deals significantly less damage:

4 Ferocity Combo

This combo is only used if you have 4 stacks of ferocity, and is actually inefficient as it wastes 1 ferocity because

you end up using two abilities and go over 5 stacks of ferocity . However, it's the best combo you can get with 4

ferocity stacks:

1. Use Thrill of the Hunt;

2. Activate Youmuu's Ghostblade (if you have);

3. Activate Savagery before you leap;

4. After landing you'll have 5 stacks; use Empowered Bola Strike, then Tiamat;

5. Auto Q;

6. Use Battle Roar.

Jumping over Dragon or Baron Pit

Must have 6 stacks of Boonetooth Necklace: By using Unseen Predator's leap range and 0.5 second windup

out of brush, Rengar can easily jump on Dragon or Baron pit and steal them from enemy:

These are all kind of Rengar's tricks and combos that I can think of. If I've missed something, please let me

know!

Gameplay

Jungling

Rengar struggles a bit in early jungling, and he needs a good leash if he wants to clear all camps

easily. However, if you didn't receive a good leash, use one of these paths to reach level 3:

Ancient Krug

Red Buff

>

Blue Buff

Smite Krug as soon as you see it. After that, get your buff; Red Brambleback . While clearing

it, use Empowered Savagery since you can stun every 6 attacks and your Empowered

Savagery gives a lot of attack speed. After that, go to Blue Sentinel . Now you have Smite and

you can easily clear it.

Gromp

>

Blue Buff

>

Red Buff

Smite Gromp as soon as you see it. After that, go to Blue Sentinel . This time, instead of

Empowered Savagery, use Empowered Battle Roar cause you don't have Krug's stun and need to

sustain through Blue Sentinel 's attacks. Finally, go to Red Brambleback . If you're low on HP,

Smite it instantly, as it gives a nice healing.

Invading

Invades are high risk, high reward. You may either die to enemy jungler or pick up a kill which is

great for snowballing. First, you need to level up by clearing Ancient Krug / gromp . REMEMBER

to get 3 ferocity stacks. Once you reached level 2, get Bola Strike and head to enemy's jungle.

You can either go to the buff he's doing or go to the other buff and wait for him to show up. Let him

start clearing, and when he burned his abilities, use the following combo for kill:

1. Leap to the target and use Savagery (Auto Q);

2. Use Bola Strike (Now you reach 5 ferocity stacks);

3. Use Empowered Savagery and continue attacking if he's still alive.

If he Flashed, either chase him or clear the buff . Sometimes, it's better to clear the buff than

chasing, as his teammates may show up and kill you easily. I found a video showing this. It's a bit

outdated but the same concept still applies (if you have a better video, please send to me):

JUNGLE INVADE

Know Your Role

Your job is to assassinate the enemy carries. If they have peel, be careful, and may rethink your

target. Pick someone who has very little armor and basically turn the fight into your favor, even if it

means you're just killing their support, 4v5 > 5v5.

NEVER initiate fights. Wait for your initiator to engage and then use Thrill of the Hunt. Now, focuson your target, and try to kill him. Once you're done, You can either stay in fight and help your

teammates, or just run to safety. Most of the times, you'll be focused after breaking stealth, so it's

better to run away and stay alive.
