INTRODUCTION

This lab will be discus about the software that been use; ARCGIS. ARCGIS is a single scalable architecture

and user interface and it have three component or versions; ARCVIEW, ARCEDITOR, and ARCINFO.

ARCCATALOG and ARCMAP is the application that been use by those three software

PROCEDURE

In this second lab we have given a task to make us familiar of using Arc catalog, an application for

managing data set. As we known Arc catalog lets us set up connection to our data source which may

reside in a folder on a local disc or on a database on the network. As for this lab we will first connect to

the folder containing the chapter 1 database (data from the text book)

TASK 1(introduction to arc catalog)

Objective: The introduction of ARCCatalog and its application for managing data sets.

Start Arc catalog

Figure 1: ARC CATALOG workspace

To open the work folder, the first step is to click the Connect Folder button. Manually find it to the chap

1 folder then click ok. The result is the chap folder now appearing in the catalog tree under Folder

connection. Then the folder been expend to view the data sets.

This is the first option steps to import a data.

This the second option for importing. This steps will use ARC toolbox.

Figure 15 open environment

At the environment setting it is important stage because it set the working directory which is important

in most operations. When open a project that contains many data it stage very needed to pick up the

right data.

The result of task 1 is being shown in task 18. All the data have transfer to the geo database.

Task 2(introduction to arc map)

Objective: In this task, the basics of working with ARCMAP is been explore

From figure 27 until figure 34, show the steps of doing the spatial analysis to the data. And a difference

can be detected between the non analysis images to the analysis image in the figure 34.

Challenge task

Objective: to display menan-butes in 10 elevation zones and save the map along with task2 in chapter

1.mxd.

The procedure is same with the previous one, but the number for the graph is different.

The final result is in figure 35. Why we need different classes? It because some project needs lot of

classes and some image doesn’t give information or detail in small classes.

Conclusion

In this software there have many functions that help us a lot when dealing with spatial data. The output

of this chapter have make student familiar to the software. Therefore when go to the chapter it will be

smoothly be done for the basic function.
