  • Basics

Exploration There are two types of locations in Grandia III; towns and dungeons. Towns consist of friendly people to talk to and shops to visit and play the consumer. People in each town will say different things depending upon what part of the game you are at, so the gamer interested in every detail will constantly revisit old towns once given the opportunity to do so. Regardless, each time you come to a town, be sure to talk to everybody and they will help you along your way and sometimes provide small bonuses. Also, you should make sure to buy all new equipment every time you find a shop that has it.

Dungeons are no more complicated than your average town. The mini-map on the lower left corner of your screen shows your current location with a triangle, the exits with yellow squares, and any Light Spheres (read below) with a twinkling smaller square. Always explore every little side path you see because that is where you will find chests and other hidden items that will greatly improve your team's power.

Enemies litter the field when you're in a dungeon. If one approaches you from behind, you'll be surrounded and have a disadvantage at the start of the battle. You can surprise them, though, by swinging your sword at them. Hitting them will momentarily stun them and, if you engage them in battle while they are stunned, you'll get the jump on them at the start of the battle and usually get the first strike.

Setting Up Your Party Each time you obtain new Skills, Spells, weapons, armor, or accessories, they must be equipped to a member of your party before they will be usable. Make sure you do this as soon as you obtain the new equipment so that you will reap the rewards of improved stats as soon as possible. Spells and Skills can only be equipped at stores or through Light Spheres which means that if you forget to equip them immediately, you may not get the chance to do so for quite some time.

Light Spheres Light Spheres are where you will save your progress, but they also function as a place to equip Skills and Spells and will occasionally allow you to restore all of your HP and MP. Every time you see one of these, make sure you save your game. If your entire party gets wiped out, you will be put back to the main menu and will be forced to load your most recent save file to restart. If you don't get into the habit of constantly saving your game, you will find yourself trekking through familiar territory many more times than you'd like after you die.

  • Skill Books and Mana Eggs As a sort of added accessory, you can equip one Skill Book and one Mana Egg to each player. Mana Eggs will increase the power of certain magical spells, depending upon which Egg you equip. Likewise, Skill Books will increase the effectiveness of equipped Skills of various categories. Although you can't equip Skills and Spells to players outside of shops or Light Spheres, you can change which Mana Eggs and Skill Books you have equipped at any time. Be sure to equip the proper Skill Book and Mana Egg to each player to maximize the effectiveness of the Skills and Mana Eggs that they have equipped. For much more on Mana Eggs and Skill Books, read those sections of our guide.

Combat The fighting in Grandia III is semi-turn-based. This means that the game will pause for you to enter commands, but everyone will move around the battle and fight in real-time once they are given an instruction.

IP Gauge The IP Gauge is located in the upper-left hand corner of your screen during battles. On it, you'll see icons for each of your party members as well as ones for your enemies. The blue section of the Wheel is the ready position and indicates that your player is preparing to accept a command. Your icon will slowly move around it until it reaches the red area. This is the command section. Each time one of your characters gets to this point, the game will pause and you will enter a command.

Important: Striking an enemy with certain attacks while they are in the Command section will Cancel their attack and put them back into the ready position. If you see an enemy is about to unleash a devastating attack, make sure you Cancel it.

After a command has been given, the icon will make its way over to the Act bar. The time it takes to move to the Act bar depends upon which command was given. Certain spells and moves take longer to prepare and leave the character vulnerable to attacks while others have no wait time. After a character acts, it may be frozen in the clear area of the Command Wheel. This happens after certain attacks which require a recovery time before the player can move again.

The two most important statistics for battle efficiency are INI (initiative) and MOV (movement). Initiative determines how fast your character moves around the Command Wheel as well as how close they will start to the Command bar when the battle begins. Movement determines how far and how quickly your player can move across the field. Remember, if

  • you choose to attack an enemy that is too far away, you won't be able to reach that position before your player tires and gives up on the command.

Command Choices Each time one of your party member gets to the Command line; they will be able to make a move. Read below for an explanation of your options.

Combo: Strike the enemy twice with your weapon. The standard attack. Critical: A strong attack that will Cancel an opponent's attack if they are charging. It can also knock enemies up

into the air. Special Move: Each player has unique Special Moves that require SP to perform. For more about these moves,

read below. Defend: Guard against an upcoming attack. If you know a strong move is coming that you can't Cancel, this is a

good option. Item: Select this option to use an item from your inventory. Use Weapon: Certain weapons have secondary attacks that you can use by selecting this option. It will only

appear if the equipped weapon can perform an alternate attack. Magic: If you have spells equipped and enough MP, you can cast a powerful magic attack. These are the

strongest offensive moves in the game and will become increasingly important as time goes on. Flee: Run away from battle. You still have to wait the Command time for this to work. If you're surrounded, you

won't be able to get away. Strategy: If you don't feel like fighting, you can select a CPU strategy and sit back to enjoy the sights. Orb: Once you collect a Guardian Orb, it will begin charging in the upper-right corner. Once it is glowing white,

the Orb selection will appear and you will be able to execute a heavenly attack. Reserve these for boss battles.

Aerial Combos To perform an Aerial Combo, you must first knock your opponent up in the air. Critical attacks have a high chance of doing this, especially those performed by Yuki and Ulf. Certain spells, such as Crackle, can also lift an enemy into the air.

If you select a Critical or Combo attack that performs while the opponent is in the air, you'll do a special Aerial Combo that does added damage. Even better, if you kill an enemy while doing a Combo, it will be an Aerial Finish and the chance that you receive an item or extra money will increase.

  • Special Moves These moves require SP to perform, just as spells require MP, which you will steadily gain during combat. Since SP is constantly being given to you, make sure you always use these moves.

Each character has a unique set of Special Moves that they will learn as the game progresses at certain levels (it will appear random, though you will learn the Special Move by attacking once you have reached a certain level of experience). The first Special Move on your list is invaluable because it can Cancel attacks. Other important Special Moves are Alfina's Energy Drive (which can restore SP to other party members) and Dahna's Mana Spring (which allows her to cast unlimited Spells without using MP).

Occasionally, one of your party members will learn a Secret Method for these Special Moves. This happens randomly, so repeatedly using the moves will help you learn them more quickly. The first level will give you a P, which stands for power. After that, you'll get an S. This means that your Special Move will take less time to charge. The third and fifth levels are also increasing the power of your move. The fourth upgrade is an R, which allows your character to recover from performing the move in less time. Finally, you can learn the Ultimate Technique which will place a U next to the move.

The one last thing you should know is that you can refill your SP faster by completing a battle without taking any damage. You'll receive an Excellent rating and be rewarded with 10% of the max SP given to each party member.

  • Shops

Every town in the game comes complete with a General Store, Magic Store, and Skill Store. The General Store holds weapons, armor, accessories and general use items. At the Magic Store, you can buy new spells, equip or remove spells to each character and at certain stores, fuse and extract spells from Mana Eggs. At Skill Stores, you can buy and equip new Skills and at certain stores, extract new Skills from Skill Books. Read below for the inventory of each shop in the game but remember, some items can only be found in dungeons so always explore.

  • Mana Eggs

Mana Eggs are little crystals full of magical power. Their primary use is as an accessory. You can equip one to each character and they will boost one or more elemental categories. This means that if you have a Flare Egg equipped, all fire-based spells will receive a slight power boost. The chart below denotes how much of a boost each Mana Egg receives for each element with asterixes.

The secondary use for Mana Eggs is to extract spells and fuse them to create more powerful Eggs. Each Mana Egg has one or more spells that can be extracted from it which you may then use in battle. Fusing Eggs allows you to take weak, useless Eggs and combine them into more powerful ones. Fusing and spell extraction can only be done at certain Magic Shops.

Each Mana Egg has a Skill Level associated with it. Your Magic Level must be at least as high as the Mana Egg or you won't be able to equip the Egg. Magic Levels will go up automatically as you gain experience, so you won't be able to equip the best Mana Eggs until later in the game. Keep this in mind while you are fusing Eggs. Creating the Ether Egg is great early on, but you won't be able to equip it. Also, make sure you extract Galactic Bang, Absolute Zero, and Astraea Zap as early as possible and equip them to your most powerful magic users.

  • Skill Books

Skill Books work just like Mana Eggs. Once you find one, equip it to your character and it will boost their Skill power. The three categories of Skills are Tech, Mind, and Body. Each Skill falls into one of these categories and each Skill Book will boost one or more of them. You can extract Skills from Books at Skill Shops, but once you do the Book is gone forever. Unlike Mana Eggs, you can't combine Skill Books into more powerful ones in a fusion process.

All Skill Books can be found in chests, except for the Lucky Book. You can't buy them in stores, so the only way to obtain these puppies is to explore every area of every dungeon. Don't worry, it's worth it.

If you can manage to get the Lucky Book from a Lucky Mink or Red Beast, you'll want to extract and equip all of the Skills associated with it as well. Other useful Skills are Endurance, Auto-Cancel, Unshakeable Will, and Fighting Spirit.

  • Walkthrough

The game begins with some background into Yuki's obsession with airplanes. Seems he fancies himself as an ace pilot -- the type that always rescues the girl and saves the day. Too bad Miranda doesn't want him doing this. When she finds him fiddling around with the plane, she takes the Flight Unit away.

Now that you have control of Yuki, your job is to get back that Flight Unit. You're free to explore the town, although none of the shops are open for business and nobody has much of anything to say unless you're interested in pottery.

Take Yuki down the hill and across the bridge. Enter Miranda's house and you'll find your first Save Orb. Record your progress and then run to the right. Inside of the little greenhouse, examine the plants to acquire an Herb. Next, run over to the left side into the kitchen. Examine the shelf to find the Flight Unit.

    Anfog Village

  • With the last piece of the airplane, go back to the Garage so that you can prepare to take off. When you're ready to leave, agree to go and you'll be off flying.

Midway through your flight across the sea, Yuki has trouble gaining altitude. Looks like you've got a little stowaway by the name of Miranda. Just as Yuki is chewing her out, a damsel in distress is spotted. Yuki isn't quite as great of a pilot as he imagines himself and he just ends up knocking her cart off of the road and crashing the plane into the woods.

Soon after crawling from the rubble, two Soldiers approach. They're looking for that girl, but they redirect their anger at you since they assume you are her protectors. Miranda goes through a fight tutorial with you at this point. Simply follow her instructions and you'll learn about the IP Gauge, Combos, Criticals, using Magic, and using Skills.

When the battle ends, Yuki decides to go looking for the girl. Start walking your way down the path. Get some practice fighting the simple Dragonfly Toads that litter the road. After fighting two sets of them, you'll find your first treasure chest. Open it up to find the Ranger Book. Continue down the path until you find the broken cart that the girl was riding on.

  • It looks like the woods is your best bet for finding the girl. A brief cutscene confirms that she is hiding there. Before you go running off in search of her, locate the nearby Light Sphere. Pick up the Flare Egg next to it. Equip your Ranger Book and Flare Egg while you are near this sphere. The Flare Egg should definitely be equipped to Yuki, though the Ranger Book can go either way at this point. Save your progress and head down the path towards more Dragonfly Toads.

Walk down the path into the next area to find the girl, Alfina. Miranda and Yuki decide to take her back to town after she faints.

Your first task in town is to fetch a Medicinal Herb. Yuki remembers having one in the Garage. Take a trip back up the hill to check it out. Rotts is already gone, but the herb is waiting for you in the back corner. Pick it up and return to Miranda's House. Alfina is waiting in Miranda's bedroom. Go inside to check up on her.

  • A scream interrupts your nice chat with Alfina. Go outside to investigate it. Kornell is outside holding Gladys hostage. His only demand is that you turn over Alfina, the Communicator. Obviously this is headed towards another fight.

The fight with Kornell is an advanced tutorial. Miranda teaches you about Canceling an attack with Criticals and Special Moves. Follow the instructions and then practice what you just learned to prevent Kornell from ever getting a chance to strike. Before you can finish him off, Kornell makes a timely escape.

Alfina joins your team and Miranda tells you to let her know when you're ready to leave. First, go to the General Store and Magic Shop. Purchase new equipment for Yuki, some healing items, and some new spells. If you buy the Howl spell, equip it to Miranda so that she can take advantage of an item you will soon find. When you're comfortable with your party, talk to Miranda to take off.

When you start walking down the path, the game informs you about the Search function. Press the Search Button to explore your surroundings and you'll find a chest. Open it to obtain the Wind Egg.

    Anfog Woods - Beast Path

  • The enemies in this area are simple. It is a great place to practice Aerial Combos on the Dragonfly Toads and Gilled Pawns. When you come to a downed tree blocking your progress, take the side trail. You'll come to some mushrooms blocking your path and learn how to cut down obstacles. Doing so here will reward you with a Revival Potion. Just past the mushrooms, turn towards the dead end to find a chest with the First Ring.

Turn around and start following the path. Before going back up towards the main trail, look for some mushrooms on the right side. Slice them with your sword to get a Healing Herb. Fight your way up the path to the next large clearing. Three sets of mushrooms are on the outer edges here. Slice them open and you'll get White Sulfur and a Storm Stone.

When the path splits, take the upper road (the one to your left). This will lead to a clearing with a chest containing Holy Water. There are also a slew of mushrooms to chop up. They contain White Sulfur, a Boomshroom, a Healing Herb, and a Revival Potion.

  • Move down the path and walk across the bridge. Jump over the next broken bridge and then turn towards the flashing dot on your map. This is a Light Sphere where you can save your game, but you'll also find a chest with the Soldier Book nearby. Save your game and turn back to go towards the yellow block.

When you come to an enemy fight in a clearing, finish them off and then chop up the mushrooms to get a Wound Salve. From there, it is just a short walk to the Camp.

This is your first camp situation, though if you're familiar with the Grandia series it isn't anything new. Here, your party members will chat a bit and reveal some of the back-story. This camp situation revolves around Alfina's terrible cooking and her status as a Communicator, which is a messenger of the Gods. Rotate the cursor around to hear what everyone has to say repeatedly until Miranda tells you it is time to hit the hay. Agree and you'll see another cutscene about Alfina's past.

When morning comes, use the Light Sphere to recover all of your lost HP and MP, save your progress, and then walk through the exit to the south.

Just like last time you faced this muscle man, Kornell is best attacked by Canceling his moves. This time, however, you'll also face two Henchmen. All of these guys are strong, so don't ever let them get a powered attack off. Watch the IP gauge to be sure about who is going to attack next. Don't forget, Kornell also has a Powered Glove that you have to Cancel or it will attack independently of it's owner.

    Anfog Woods - Camp

    Boss Fight: Kornell

  • Use as many Critical attacks and other moves that do a Cancel as possible. Alfina should spend just about the entire battle casting Heal, but if everyone looks like they're in good shape, try to perform an Aerial Combo with her or else do the Stun Force special move. You can momentarily paralyze a Henchman, which will allow the rest of your party to focus on the Powered Glove (which they should be doing from the start). Use all of your most powerful moves to take the Powered Glove out as soon as possible. Once the Powered Glove is down, Kornell is extremely limited in what he can do. Pick off the Henchmen and then do Critical/Combo moves to end the fight.

When the battle ends, you'll be back at the Light Sphere. Do the recovery and save process again and try your luck moving south.

Near the beginning of this trail, you'll see a chest up on a ledge on the left side. You'll have to follow the side trail around to get it. Look up ahead on the left side for some mushrooms. Chop them down to get a Cherry Bomb and a Revival Potion.

Next, go through the path you just revealed. Chop down the mushrooms on the inside to get White Sulfur. Be wary of the Fake Mushroom hiding inside one of them, though. Open the chest at the end of the path to get the Staff of Prayer.

Go back to the main path and keep going. Just at the first turn, look for a chest on the right. It holds the Stone Egg.

    Anfog Woods - South

  • Continue along the trail, fighting the enemies as you go. When you get to a rope ladder, climb down it. Hop over the small gap and then be sure to climb up the ladder on the other side. At the top you'll find a Light Sphere so that you can save, but more importantly you'll find a chest with the Hunter's Jacket.

Go back down the ladder and follow the path. Be sure to slice the mushrooms up ahead to find a Quakestone, Torte's Reedpipe, and a Fake Mushroom fight.

Further along you'll come to a series of clearings. In the first one, chop the mushrooms on the west side to get a Boomshroom. There are more on the east side, though they only contain a Fake Mushroom fight.

walk down the ramp into the next clearing and look on the immediate east side. You'll find a chest that contains a Storm Stone. Look for some mushrooms on the west side and you'll obtain more White Sulfur and a Healing Herb.

  • The third (and final) clearing has a chest on the upper east side. Open it to obtain the Protective Charm. Once you have it, move on to the Sabatar Coast.

Here is where you meet Alonso. He was trapped inside of a barrel for some reason. The more important detail is that he is a sailor and has a ship that can get you to the mainland. He agrees to help you out in return for your kind act of freeing him from his wooden confine.

Run over to the upper east corner and you'll find a Speed Seed that has washed up on shore. Move over to the west side and use the Light Sphere before going through to the next region.

When the path first branches, take the path that leads to the right. Fight your way past the enemies and you'll find a chest that holds the Hunter's Knife.

Go back and follow the other trail. Just as you are about to get to the Light Sphere, look on the right side of the path for a chest. Open it to get another Ranger Book. Just ahead on the left is another chest. This one holds a second copy of the Soldier Book. Save your game before moving in to the open area overlooking the ocean. There are a ton of enemies waiting for you.

Once the coast is clear, go for the two chests in this field. The first is on top of one of the small hills and holds the Admiral Boots. The second chest is out on the point near the solitary tree and holds the Frost Egg.

    Sabatar Coast - Bluffs

  • Walk through to the end of the open area to where a dirt path begins. Look in the little round side path for a chest with the Bomb Egg. Next, walk out to the point jutting into the water and open the chest there for a Cure Herb. Finally, walk through to Sabatar Harbor.

This town is home to the Beauty Bianca Casino. Alonso can't wait, so he steals Alfina's brooch and runs in to gamble it away. Follow him inside to stop him. Alonso loses it, of course, but convinces Bianca to allow him to play for it again tomorrow in exchange for his giving himself to Bianca if he loses.

Tomorrow is the big day, so for now you are free to explore. Look for a sailor behind Bianca's tent hurting for some money. He'll offer you up the Alheal spell for a discounted price of 248. Buy it.

    Sabatar Harbor

  • Go inside the tent next to Bianca's. Inside you'll find another man in debt. This one lets his Burnstrike spell go for just 168 Gold. This is another steal that you should take advantage of. Last, but not least, talk to the Shop Clerk and load up on Skills. Be sure to equip them and shuffle around your Books to take advantage of them.

Go down to the boat and enter Alonso's Cabin to take a look around. He has a plan to beat the cheating Bianca, but it requires Miranda's help. You'll just have to wait to see what got her so worked up. Talk to Miranda and choose to go to bed to move the game to the next day.

When you wake up, you'll have a Light Sphere waiting for you if you want to save. Use it if you haven't in a while and then go upstairs. Everyone is already gone, so hurry to the casino. When Alonso wins, you get the Trident, Boat Key, Admiral Uniform, and Alfina's Brooch.

You now have the option of gambling at the casino. For more on the casino, please read our Secrets section.

  • When you're ready to leave, walk back down to the boat and Alfonso will ask you if you want to set sail. Give him the affirmative to take off.

Out in the open waters, you're free to explore the ship. When you want to advance the game, go inside and tell Miranda that you're ready to sleep for the night. When you wake up, go upstairs and Alfina tells you that Miranda and Alonso are outside because of a loud disturbance. Run to the front of the boat to engage a battle with 8 Boat Swallows.

The Boat Swallows shouldn't be too difficult. Although this is a large fight, each individual enemy isn't so tough. Use area attacks to damage more than one of the Boat Swallows at a time rather than picking them off one by one. Whirlwind is an especially effective technique in this fight. As soon as the first one finishes, a second battle against 8 of them begins. Repeat your same method that you used to win the first fight.

After the second fight, it looks like more Boat Swallows are coming. Before they can attack, Ulf comes riding in on his dragon and the Boat Swallows scatter. After a friendly greeting, Ulf tells Yuki he can ride Shiba the dragon. That is, he could if Shiba would let him, which the dragon won't. When you're ready to give up, go into the Cabin and talk to Ulf.

    Alonso's Ship

  • Your party sits down to a dinner cooked by Miranda. Once again, you have control of the conversation. Move the icon around to hear what everybody has to say. Turns out Ulf comes from a town full of dragon riders and even knows Sky Captain Schmidt. The conversation ends on an ominous note about Verse Spheres.

The next morning, Ulf takes off. He tells Yuki to stop by Randoto to find some fruit that Sky Captain Schmidt adores and it just happens to be on the way.

When you first land, walk up the hill and use the Light Sphere. Continue on into the next area.

These caves are covered with explosive flowers. When you clip the top off with your sword, it sets off a fuse. Make sure you get out of the way of this blast. Start by chopping the two flowers that are ahead of you. One opens up a path to a chest that holds the Priest Book. The other flower will blow open a path by destroying a boulder blocking your way.

Go through the path you just opened and jump over the gap near the waterfall. As you try to pass the waterfall, two groups of Fishmen attack. These are the standard enemy of this dungeon. When they attack in groups, they can team up for the Slap Happy move where three of them attack simultaneously. Avoid this strong attack as often as possible by using Cancels.

    Randoto

    Randoto - Underground Caves

  • When you come to your first fork in the road, turn to the east and take the short side path. You'll find two groups of enemies here, one of which contains the powerful Fishman Captain (paralyze him with Alfina). Clear out the bad guys and open the chest to obtain the Sleep Amulet.

Go back and continue on the main path. Hop over the riverbed and you'll see two explosive flowers and a chest being guarded by a few enemies. Make sure you clear them out so that you can open the chest and pick up the Shock Blade. When you walk over to the next section of the river that you have to jump over, turn north and run up the small path. Some more enemies are waiting for you, but so is a chest holding some Holy Water.

As soon as you jump over the next river, turn down a path to find a chest with the Force Knife. When you go back on the main path, you'll see a leading down on the left side. Take it and knock the explosive flower there to blow open a trail back to the beginning. This will come in handy if you want to go save the game now.

  • Battle your way through the open area ahead back to the rivers. Before you jump across, look on the right side for a chest with Panacea and then go through to the next region.

Make use of the Light Sphere that sits on your left as you enter. Walk ahead and an earthquake ripples across the island.

Ahead on the left you can see a chest, but the gap is too big for you to hop over to get it. Walk up the hill and find a rock next to an explosive flower. Detonate it and the rock will roll down to create a path for you. Open the chest and pick up the Hunter Book.

Walk back up the path and move on until you see an explosive flower on the right. Detonate it to blow open a cave that holds a chest. Inside, you can get the Water Ring.

Climb down the rope ladder and you'll find some nesting Boat Swallows. These guys should be easy pickings for your team. You can also smash their eggs with your sword, although you won't find anything in them. When you come to a set of three eggs, smash them and look behind where they were to find another Bomb Egg. Wind your way around and go up a set of two rope ladders.

Stay away from the edges so that you don't fall when it caves in and wind your way down the switchbacks. Climb up the tall ladder at the end to reach the higher plateau.

    Randoto - Northwest Wall

  • Up top, you'll find more Boat Swallows flying around. Look on the right at the beginning to find a chest near the cliff face. It contains the Thunder Egg, which will compliment your party quite nicely. Smashing open the eggs up here will only reveal some more enemy Boat Swallows for you to fight.

You'll have to jump over a pit to reach the final leg of this area. When you come to this gap, turn back and go down the side path that leads south. This will show you three eggs for you to smash and a chest holding a Revival Potion. Jump over the gap and walk down the path to the end of this region. Just before you run through to the next area, look for a chest on the left side holding a Miracle Elixir.

Make sure you save your progress and use the Recover function of this Light Sphere so that you're prepared for the upcoming fight.

The Minotaur comes with a crew of 4 Fishman Warriors and 1 Fishman Advisor. Make sure you take out these little peons as quickly as possible, especially the Advisor. We used Yuki's Whirlwind, Tremor Magic, Alonso's Lancer Smash, and Alfina's Ripple Shot as our initial attack. We took a powerful counterattack, but Alheal was more than enough to make up for it and the smaller enemies surrounding the Minotaur were all either dead or extremely close to it.

If you focus your strength first on the Advisor, and then on the Warriors, you'll leave the Minotaur all alone. This will allow you to simply gang up on him with a series of Combos and Cancels. Each time he begins to charge up his powerful Ground Crush, make sure to stop it because it can kill any of your players if they are even the slightest bit low on HP.

    Randoto - Mountaintop

    Boss Fight: Minotaur

  • When you finally do beat the Minotaur, you'll be rewarded with the Rain Egg. Make sure to pick it up and then walk up to the tree to acquire the Lem Fruit. More earthquakes come as you try to make it back to the ship, the last of which is so powerful that it opens up the ground underneath you. Despite Yuki's best efforts, Alfina falls into a Verse Sphere so he dives in after her.

The Strange Wasteland is just a stopover. There aren't any battles or items to be found. Simply follow the path and use the rocks as lifts to reach the top where a resident of the Verse Realm will send you back.

Just as you return to your world, you find Miranda and Alonso surrounded by creatures. When the party joins back up, a fight ensues against an Excise Sigma and a bunch of Pico Alphas. Get rid of the Pico Alphas by using your spells and

    Strange Wasteland

  • techniques that will hit all of them at once so that you can focus on the Excise Sigma. If you didn't have problems on the Minotaur, this battle should be a cakewalk. Once you win, make use of the Light Point and scurry back to the ship.

Back on Alonso's ship, you should walk into the Cabin to get some dinner with your crew. Once again, move the cursor around to follow the conversation.

The Harbor doesn't hold anything of interest in Mendi. Simply use the Light Sphere and walk through the exit after you've had your fill of talking to sailors and harbor workers.

Walk down the road talking to the residents until a cutscene plays. Miranda decides to go off with Alonso to cook some dinner leaving you and Alfina to look for Schmidt alone. Keep moving down the road into the next part of town.

This is the part of the city you've been looking for. On opposite sides of the fountain you can find the General Store and the Inn. The Skill Shop can be found across the stone bridge on the right side. Just farther down the road on the right you'll find the Magic Shop. The Inn holds the Light Sphere where you can save your game. The Skill Shop is the first place that you should go, though.

The Skill Shop holds books in the rear corner that will teach you all about Skills. You can also extract Skills here. This is

  • the process of destroying a Skill Book to take out any information that will turn into an equippable Skill for your team. Only do this if you're sure you no longer want the book or else you'll be out of luck when it is gone.

The Magic Shop should be your next stop. You can purchase new spells here, but you'll also learn about extracting new spells. This works the same way as extracting a Skill. Once you extract a new spell from a Mana Egg, the egg will be destroyed and you'll lose it forever. Only do this to Eggs that you don't need anymore.

Schmidt's Garage can be found all the way at the far end of Park Avenue. At first Schmidt wants nothing to do with you. After you talk to him again, he shows you a massive Flight Unit. Run over to the drawing table and talk to him again. When he disappears again, find him over by the small engine and engage him in conversation again. Keep running around finding him until he is impressed by your tenacity and agrees to give you a plane if you come back tomorrow. Outside, Alfina asks you if have told Miranda that you're leaving with her. It's time to go back to the ship and have that conversation.

  • Back in the Ship's Cabin, you'll find a huge feast laid out. Move the cursor around and listen in on the conversation. Miranda doesn't like the idea of Yuki leaving, but she eventually accepts it and is happy for Yuki. When morning comes, your team goes to see Schmidt. You may notice that Alonso and Miranda have been permanently removed from your party. Don't worry; all of their equipment was automatically unequipped for you. Wander over to see Schmidt and get your new plane. Along the way, stop by the Liquor Store and see Otto to start a side quest.

After a long, dramatic cutscene, you're in the air. Sit back and enjoy the view as this movie drags on. You'll momentarily be able to control the plane, but the game will quickly go back into a cutscene. This time, you see Yuki's brother riding atop a flying serpent which knocks you out of the sky. Another airplane has been crashed by Yuki.

You crash in the middle of a forest, just outside of your destination. There is a chest holding a Speed Seed just to the left of the large rock near where you crashed. You should also look in the northwest corner of the initial clearing to find a chest holding the Sorcerer Book. Finally, look on the southeast side for a chest holding the Blaze Egg.

The enemies here are mostly Baabaas. These guys pretty much won't attack you and will just sit there while you pummel them. Attack all of them, despite their low XP reward. They'll give you lots of money and sometimes will drop a Sheepskin which you can sell for even more. There are also some Dragonoids. These are the bad boys of the area and they'll most likely end up poisoning you. Equip any items you have that will prevent this and use your Antidotes.

    Arcriff Forest

  • Cross over the fallen log and turn to the right to find a chest holding a Revival Elixir. Continue along until you see some herbs growing on the ground. Make sure you pick them all up, especially since two of them are much needed Antidotes. From there, follow the trail down to the next region.

This is just a passover area for you to take in the lovely sight of the temple from a distance. Walk down the road into the temple.

    Arcriff Temple Road

  • At the south end of the temple, you can find the General Store and the Magic Store. Stop by them to find some new items and spells. Talk to the guards milling about and then head through the north exit.

Use the Light Sphere that sits in front of you as you enter. Go through the door on the left and enter the next door you find on the left. This is the library where you can research all about Gryph and this temple. Next, go through the door on the opposite side of the hallway to enter the Cathedral.

The Bishop is waiting for you at the base of the central staircase. He tells you that the ceremony is tomorrow. Exit through the eastern door and go up the stairs to the north. Enter the Communicator's Room on the right and read the diary on the desk. A brief look into Emelious' past is given and it shows how he never wanted to be a Communicator. Go back downstairs and talk to the Bishop again. He has prepared a room for you at the end of the west hallway. Walk there and talk to the Steward Priest sitting outside of the bedrooms.

When morning comes, it is time for the ceremony. Go back up stairs and enter the Viewing Room. The ceremony doesn't go quite as planned when Emelious interrupts it and kills Gryph and brings general chaos to the situation.

    Arcriff Temple Square

    Arcriff Temple - Inside

  • You'll find yourself back in the waiting room. Use the Light Sphere to save your progress and then open up the two chests to find a Miracle Elixir and a Wind Ring. Finally, walk back through the door into the Cathedral.

These are the same enemies you fought before, only now you only have two people on your team instead of four. Follow the same tactics you used before. Start by using a Comet Strike from Alfina to cancel the Excise Sigma's initial attack. You should try to cancel his attack as often as possible. He has a long charge time, so this shouldn't be difficult provided you don't do any huge spells or Skills that require a long recovery time. When you're not canceling the Excise Sigma, take out the Pico Alphas one at a time. This will allow you to eventually fully focus on the Excise Sigma and you'll be able to cancel every single attack he brings.

With the fight over, make your way back up to the second floor. Follow the hallway all the way around and you'll find the staircase to the North Tower is open. Take it up.

Open up the four chests and you'll be rewarded with the Thunder Egg, Leaf Egg, Priest Book, and the Poison Amulet. Save your game at the Light Sphere and walk forward until an earthquake hits. When it does, some Pico Alphas pop out of the rubble.

Boss Fight: Excise Sigma, 2 Pico Alphas

    Arcriff Temple - North Tower/Outside

  • Follow the path up the stairs, and then back down them. You'll be on the opposite side of the chasm that prevented you from crossing through the cave before. Go up the next set of stairs and work your way along until an earthquake causes you to fall. This will fill in the chasm, giving you freedom to go directly through this region and back. It also gives you a chest which holds the Aromatic Root.

Walk into the spiral section of this region. Look on the right and you'll see a hovering sword. Approach it to obtain the Broadsword. Wind your way up the ramp and exit through the lit door.

Outside, Kraven tells you to tell the other Guardians that Gryph is dead before he takes off. Yuki decides it would be a good idea to go back to the plane to see if it still can fly. Save your game at the Light Sphere and walk around behind the temple. You'll find a chest holding the Revival Gem. In the southeast corner of this region, look for a chest holding the Healing Gem. Near the southwest corner, you can also find a chest with a Magic Seed. Fight off the Dragonoids and then leave to the south.

  • The earthquake covered the path directly in front of you. Run around to the back of the rubble to find a chest with the Lightning Stone. Go back and follow the path around the southern part of this region until you hit another earthquake.

Fight your way past the Dragonoids to get back to the plane. Approach it and examine it to get in and fly back to Mendi. The plane just holds together long enough to make it back.

Yuki suggests finding an Inn, and there just happens to be one in the Park Avenue area. Walk through the woods to get there and enter the Inn near the fountain. When you enter, Yuki runs off to the room and wants to be left alone. Take this opportunity to go take a walk. When you go outside, Ulf is walking by and the two young pups discuss all that has happened.

Ulf has the idea of going back to Randoto to get more fruit in hopes of convincing Sky Captain Schmidt to make another plane. He joins your party and takes the place of Alfina. Approach Shiba when you're ready to leave and another cutscene will play.

You're back on Randoto to get another Lem Fruit, but Shiba landed on the opposite side of the mountain so you'll have some new terrain to explore. Although Alfina is gone, the Zoea and Fishmen that occupy this cliff are extremely easy and should pose no threat to you. If you find any difficulty in getting past this part, you can always make quick trips back to the Light Sphere for a full recovery.

When you reach the top of the first hill, look behind the rock at the point to find a chest with the Plate Mail. Climb up the

    Arcriff Forest - Again

    Mendi City - Again

  • ladder and then turn back down the short path to find a chest with the Scout Book. Fight your way past the Fishmen into the next region.

Use the Light Sphere to regain your HP and MP and save your game. When you approach the Lem Tree, a familiar friend is waiting.

This time, you'll have to fight 2 Minotaurs and it is just Yuki and Ulf. Canceling their attacks successfully will be the key to victory. Ulf's Bigwheel technique can attack both Minotaurs at once and will cancel their turns, so make sure to use it whenever you need a simultaneous cancel.

As usual, try to defeat one of the Minotaurs first so that you can double team the other. Use your most powerful moves such as Whirlwind, Burnstrike, Blade Storm, and Flame Storm to do the damage to these guys one at a time. When you win the battle, they drop the Cyclone Egg.

Grab the second Lem Fruit and start going back to Shiba the way you came up.

Schmidt has already found your plane and he says to meet him outside of the garage. Take a step towards the garage and Schmidt brings out a new plane for you. Before you take off, go and see Alfina at the Inn. Your next stop is Dragon Valley, which can only be reached by flying. When you're fully equipped, head over to the plane and take off.

    Randoto - Mountaintop

    Boss Fight: Minotaur x2

    Mendi City - Again

  • You can now fly to anywhere you please and do some sightseeing from the air. Pressing the R2 Button will allow you to do loops in the air. Pressing the R1 Button will allow you to zoom in on a place and read about it. If you are close enough, you can land by pressing the Circle Button. Fly to Dragon Valley (which is straight ahead of you after you take off) and land the plane.

Ulf's former friends don't exactly want him back in the valley, so you'll have to take the tough way in. Walk up the path until you come to a rock. Push it off of the ledge and go back down towards the plane. Use the rock as a bridge across to the next area.

Here you'll meet some new enemies. The Venom Birds will mostly frustrate you by constantly calling for reinforcements, which can actually lead to quite a bit of XP for your team. You'll have to watch out for poisonous attacks coming from Hill Lizards - having the Cure spell equipped to one party member is a wise decision.

    Dragon Valley - Rocky Cliffs

  • Look for a side path leading to the west and you'll find a chest holding the Rain Egg. Back on the main trail, walk a few steps north and then start looking on the left for a chest holding the Quake Egg. Look for one more side trail that leads to the northwest and you will get a chest holding an Aqua Egg.

Go back to where the road split and look for an area where you can jump over the gap. On the other side, open the chest on the right to find some Holy Water. Walk up the path and push the rock down to make another walkway. Turn right to go to the south when you can and you'll come to a chest. Inside of it are the Magic Pumps. From there, run and jump up to the northeast corner to find a Power Seed.

Head towards the exit, but before you go through, jump over the gap to the south onto a pillar. There you can pick up a chest that holds the Warrior Book. Once you have it, go through the exit.

  • You faced a few Thunder Dragons in the previous region, but now you're going to have to fight a lot more of them, in addition to a new enemy. The Lycan Knight rides atop the Thunder Dragon, meaning you have to defeat both of them separately. Use as many area effect spells as possible to enable your team to attack both the beast and the rider simultaneously. They use a lot of lightning and wind based spells, so try to boost your defense of those elementals before fighting this section. Once you beat the first set of them, look inside of the cave on the right to find a treasure trove of Mana Eggs. You'll get the Stone Egg, Aqua Egg, Flare Egg, and the Dragon Armor.

At the far southwestern tip of this region, there is a chest that holds the Frost Egg, so don't miss it. Walk all the way up the path to the Light Sphere and save your game.

    Dragon Valley - Windy Path

  • Start by hitting your Detector. You'll find that the tree on your left can be chopped down. Do it and open the chest inside the grove to find a Hunter Book. Press the Detector again and follow the glowing lights to find a log on the west side of this field. Push it into the river to make a bridge. Finally, go to the north end of this little field and chop another tree down to create a second bridge. Walk across it into the second field.

Chop the red flower on the western side to find a Shining Nut. Walk to the west to go across the bridge you previously made.

Follow the path that leads to the northeast until you hit a river. Look for another log to push in and you'll have another bridge made. Run back all the way to the south and go up the hill. Look for some rocks that you can hop over into a new area.

    Dragon Valley - Rocky Terrace

  • Don't start moving to the northwest until you have healed your party. What looks like a plant for you to smash is actually a pair of Green Men in disguise. These are some tough monsters that your team can easily handle, but only if they come into the battle well prepared. Use your cancel techniques and focus your attacks on them one at a time to get through it. Once you do, climb down the ladder to the lower level.

Walk towards the south end of this field and look for some red flowers. There isn't anything inside of them, but there is a log nearby for you to push into the river. Go back to the north and smash the flowers there. You'll find a Healing Gem and a Cure Powder. Just ahead you'll find another fight with a Green Man. Once you beat him, smash open the flowers he was near to get a Healing Fruit.

Cross over to the east using the bridge you have created. Climb the ladder and go south towards the red flowers. A set of three Green Men is going to pop out at you, so be prepared. When they are gone, cut over the remaining flower for a Leaf Egg.

  • If you walk up the hill to the south, there is a tree that you can cut down. Crossing it will take you back to the beginning of this region. Instead, walk down the hill to the north. There is another chest there which contains the Life Egg. Go back down the ladder and start heading down the path to the exit. You'll be able to take a side path to the east which leads to a chest holding the Dragon Scale. Save your game at the Light Sphere and go on into the next region.

Ulf's old buddies aren't too keen on letting you in when you approach the door, but Drak has other plans and demands you be allowed in. Run down the path and see what he has to say for himself.

Drak gives you his Orb and tells you to go to the People of the Corridor in Baccula. Pick up the Orb and run back down the mountain to your plane. The Baccula Settlement can be found in the middle of the desert to the east. You are also

Dragon Valley - Sanctuary of Wind

  • free to fly around to places you have previously visited. Make sure you visit Sabatar Harbor for a new prize list at the casino.

This town in the desert holds the secret to Mana Fusion. Make sure you read up about this in our Mana Eggs Section. To start, begin walking to the west to trigger a cutscene. When it finishes, walk to the west and enter the Chief's Tent.

After your conversation with Dahna, Yuki decides to find a place to stay for the night. Walk back over to the east and enter the Inn. Choose to stay for the night and then follow your party's conversation around as they discuss what has transpired. When dinner is over, leave the tent to another cutscene.

    Baccula Settlement

  • Before you leave this town, make sure you visit all of the shops and upgrade all of your Skills, Magic, and equipment. Also, stop by the Magic Shop and fuse some of your Mana Eggs. Remember, you can't equip a Mana Egg if it has a higher level than you do. Although you can create a Level 10 Mana Egg right now, it might not be advisable unless you want to extract the powerful spells and destroy the Egg.

When you're ready, exit through the northern gate. If you talk to the man waiting there, he tells you about the Desert Lord who resides on the south side. This guy is way too tough for you right now, so you'll want to come back to this later.

You can find the optional Desert Lord beast in the southern part of this section, but you should not fight him yet. Instead, clear out the enemies to gain some experience and then exit to the north.

Like the west, there isn't anything to see here. Run around and wipe the map clean of enemies to get a few XP level-ups and then go to the north where you'll find a Light Sphere. Recover your HP and MP and save your progress before going into the ruins.

Upon entering, walk straight ahead until you see a chest. Open it and grab the Revival Elixir from inside. Turn back and go to the north. Once again, go straight until you find a chest. This one has a Holy Salve in it.

    Baccula Desert - West

    Baccula Desert - North

    Baccula Ruins - Sandy Path

  • Take the little path over the lake of sand and follow the trail up a staircase to a third chest. Open it to find the Wizard Book.

From the little staircase, go to the east and explore the side trails. You'll find a Blaze Egg and a Cure Powder.

Go back to the room where you branched off and take the path on the left. When you come to the next fork in the road stick to the right side. You'll come to a sealed door that can only be opened by pushing the stone to the left of it. Once the door opens, it will lead to a path where you can find the Staff of Ice.

When you go back to the main path, you'll find a place where the road branches into three paths. First take the path to the right and go down the stairs until you find a chest. Inside of it is the Guardian Book. You may notice that the hall continues on to the east. Walk across the sand and keep following the path along to another chest that holds a Speed Seed.

  • Go back to where the path split into three and walk up the stairs. Smash the urns at the end of the straight portion to find a Stone Egg and a Cure Herb. Keep walking along the path and look on the north side when it turns again. This chest holds another copy of the Fighter Book.

Keep moving along until you come to a series of urns. Smash them to pick up an Antidote, Would Salve, Bomb Egg, and Panacea. From there, move to the end of the path. Open the chests and smash the urns to find a Life Seed, Quake Egg, and Antidote. Step on the block in the center of the room to open a path out of this dungeon.

For now, go back to where this trail split and follow the final path to the exit.

Take in the view as your run across the bridge and go through the next door out.

Smash the two urns on your left in the first room to find a White Sulfur. Next follow the path to go out of the southeastern exit. Along the way, keep your eye on the south for a side path to obtain a Mogay Bomb from a chest.

  • When you go out of the southeast exit, you'll be back in the Sand Valley momentarily. Explore the entire area to get a Fire Ring and the Sleep Cards and then go back inside.

Follow the main trail until you come to a large area in a sea of sand. If you approach the statue here, you'll be able to rotate the area. This will switch access from the right to the left exits. If you follow the left path, you'll find a chest with a Scout Book.

Taking the eastern path is slightly more involved. Follow it until you see some urns. Smash them to get a Holy Salve and a Flare Egg. Stepping through the next room will start a scripted battle.

This battle is a test of your endurance. The Golems can be very tough and won't take much physical damage. Use your magic attacks at every opportunity. For the first set of Golems, use your Drak Orb to wipe start off the fight. Whatever Dahna's best magic is that you have equipped to her, now is a great time to use it.
