Introduction

On Earth, gravity affects everything we do. We can’t

predict how our usual objects will react in space. That’s why

NASA did a project called ” Toys in space “ and we’ll show you

how these toys reacted

Why ?

• Gravity:On earth, every toy is affected to some extent by the

pull of gravity• Energy conservation:Every object has Kinetic Energy. An

astronaut trying to move a toy in space must find a source for the

energy needed by the toyAnton Madalina si Balaita Mara

Why ?

• Microgravity:In space toys experience “weightlesness” or

“zero gravity”• Momentum conservation:Objects

in action have momentun.In a collision,momentum is

conserved. When one object loses momentum another one has to

gain itAnton Madalina si Balaita Mara

Why?

• Inertia:Objects in motion tend to stay in motion and objects at rest tend to stay at rest.An

astronaut must exert a force to cause a toy to change its motion.

The Space Paddleball

Anton Madalina si Balaita Mara

1.The ball falls outwards

2.It gently streches to its

string

3.It returns to the paddle in slow motion

The space yoyo

Anton Madalina si Balaita Mara

In space, the yoyo will notsleep because there is no force

to stop it. If the string is Released on the way out, the

yoyo will wind up its string while moving forward.

The space marbles

Anton Madalina si Balaita Mara

1.They stick and begin to spin around their joining points

2.We push another marbel into the chain

3.The whole chain will oscilate

4.If enough marbles are added, the chain will move so wildly that the two ends make a circle

Rat stuff,the flipping mouse

In space the “Rat Stuff” could not stay on the wall long enough to work.Astronauts had to use hand cream in order to make the toy sticky enough to work properly.

The space Wheelo

Magnetism is the same in space as it is on Earth,so the wheel does stick to the track.By slinging the wheel sideways in a circular arc the wheel starts by using a combination of inertia and centripetal forceAnton Madalina si Balaita
