Many of our international students choose to join the College’s A Level programme. A Levels, of course, have long been considered the gold standard of academic qualifications. They are recognised throughout the world by employers and universities alike and open the door to a vast range of careers and higher education courses. Our A Level programme is extremely popular with our home students too, giving you the chance to make friends with UK students as you study and socialise together. You can learn what we offer at A Level on pages 11 - 16 of this brochure.

A Levels, however, are not necessarily the best choice for everyone. Perhaps you already have your sights set on a particular career, and want to follow a more vocationally-focused course. If so, you can choose to study for one of a range of diplomas in areas such as business, information technology, performing arts, travel and tourism, hospitality and catering, construction and civil engineering, to name but a few. These diplomas are national qualifications, like A Levels, and are recognised by most UK universities. We offer an extensive list of these vocational qualifications, which you can see on pages 17 - 23 of this brochure.

On pages 24 - 25 you can read about our International Foundation Programme, a one-year course designed to bridge the gap between the secondary education of your home country and university study in the UK. As well as studying on a specific subject pathway, International Foundation students are given the chance to develop the higher level study skills they will need when they progress to undergraduate study at a UK university.

Finally, don’t forget that Wakefield College offer opportunities to study full-time at university level in areas such as business and management, early years, ICT, media and design, performing arts, popular music, public services and sport and health. These programmes give you the chance to take advantage of lower fees and smaller class sizes than most universities. More information about our higher education provision appears on pages 26 - 28.

I hope you will enjoy browsing through this publication and seeing what we have to offer. Thank you for considering Wakefield College. I am confident that if you choose to join us, you will not be disappointed.

As an Assistant Principal at Wakefield College, I would like to give you a brief introduction to the programmes of study you could follow as one of our international students.

WelcomeA message from Tony Rex

At Wakefield College, we pride ourselves on our examination success over recent years. In 2014 our A Level pass rate exceeded 95% for the eleventh year running, with many subjects achieving a 100% pass rate year-on-year, and our record overall pass rate was 97%, with almost two thirds of A Levels being achieved at A*-C grades. At AS Level, this year’s pass rate of 91% was well above the national average, made even more remarkable by the 18% increase in numbers of entries.

Our students on advanced level vocational programmes also achieve excellent results; in 2014 18 subjects achieved a 100% pass rate.

Students’ work is assessed by teachers at the College and primarily involves coursework, with there being few, if any, exams.
