Third Generation ComputersINTEGRATED CIRCUITS

(1964-1971)

Page 2: Integrated circuit

THIRD GENERATION COMPUTERSwere generally much smaller in size than the 2nd and 1st generation computers. This is because these newer computers made us of integrated circuits and semiconductors.

What is Integrated

Circuit?

Page 4: Integrated circuit

> It is small chip that can function as an amplifier, oscillator, timer, microprocessors , or even computer memory.

Jack St. Clair Kilby(November 8, 1923 – June 20,

2005)

- an American electrical engineer.- took part (along with Robert Noyce) in the realization of the first integrated circuit while working at Texas Instruments (TI) in 1958.- also the inventor of the handheld calculator and the thermal printer.- as awarded the Nobel Prize in physics in 2000.
