Installing Camshaft Position Sensor on a 2002 VW Passat

Installing Camshaft Position Sensor on a 2002 VW Passat:

The Volkswagen Passat is a large family car produced through eight design generations by

Volkswagen, the German manufacturer since 1973. It is positioned between the Volkswagen

Golf (Jetta) and the Volkswagen Phaeton in the current Volkswagen line-up and its derivatives

badged variously as the Dasher, Santana, Quantum, Magotan, Corsar and Carat. The

successive generations of the Passat carry the Volkswagen internal designations B1, B2, etc.

Installation Process:

Volkswagen utilizes a camshaft position sensor on the 2002 Passat sedan to relay information

about the camshaft place and engine velocity to the digital management module to find out

ignition timing and gas injection synchronization. The sensor – situated on the cylinder head

behind the higher timing belt cover on the 1.8-liter engine, is accessible for elimination and

replacement.

Instructions:

Find the cam place sensor electrical connector on the timing belt cover, to the left of

middle of the engine. Unlock the connector retaining tab and pull the connector off the

sensor.

Unlock the higher timing belt cowl retainer clip at the top-proper corner of the cover. Pull

the highest of the duvet away from the engine barely and disengage the upper cowl from

the tab in the decrease cover. Carry the upper cover straight up and out of the engine

compartment.

Use a ratchet and socket and take away the two camshaft sensor retaining bolts. Pull the

outdated sensor off the engine.

Make sure the tab on the faceplate on the top of the camshaft is correctly listed in its

detent. Set up the brand new sensor on the engine. Install the 2 sensor retaining bolts and

use an inch-pound torque wrench and socket to torque them to 88 inch-pounds.

Fix the upper timing belt cover on the engine. Interact the tab in the lower timing belt

cowl with the slot in the higher timing belt cover. Snap the upper cowl into place. Set up

the camshaft sensor electrical connector and make sure that the retainer locks in place.

Suggeston: Enable the engine to become cool, before performing this operation.
