    Installation Manual

    1. Installation and start-up

For a sae and disruption ree operation o anymachine or system a careul installation and startup according to the manuacturers instructions ismandatory.

Hydraulic systems can be designed or many totallydierent unctions and they require consequentlydierent start up procedures. The hydraulic pumpis in this respect only one, but nevertheless a veryimportant component o the whole system.

A general start up instruction thereore can give manyhelpul hints but it needs to be completed by specicadditions depending o the individual nature o thesystem or power unit.

During installation and start up the ollowing stepsneed to be carried out careully:

    Visual inspection

Make sure that all components o the shipment arecomplete, ree o any damage, ree o outside con-tamination and properly protected against ingressiono contamination.

    Cleanliness

Contamination o any kind is the enemy o any hy-draulic component. It is still the number one causeor component ailure. Thereore maximum care andcleanlinessare required during all handling and man-

aging o parts that come in contact with the hydraulicfuid. All ports o the pumps and other componentsmust be covered until pipes or hoses are mounted tothem. Perorm assembly preerrably in a dry and dustree room. Use only suitable tools.

    Installation

Installation horizontal or vertical, avoid rigid connec-tion rom pump to reservoir cover or rame and to inletand outlet piping to prevent excitation o the wholesystem due to pump vibrations.

Suction portPosition to the side or to the bottom, max. fuid velocityapprox. v = 1.0 m/sec, cut suction pipe inlet under 45.Minimum distance rom bottom 2 - 3 times diameterand, even at lowest fuid level, approx. 200 mm belowfuid level. Inlet pressure, even during compensation, never should drop below 0.8 bar (absolute).

Absolute gas tight connection (risk o cavitation, noise). Air bubbles due to vacuum in the inlet candestroy pumps within a short time due to cavitationerosion. Suction pipe should be as short as possible.Use only clean, low pressure pipe, avoid sharp elbows

and any restriction o cross section.

The suction pipe must have access to clean, cooledand ltered fuid, ree o air bubbles. No turbulencesor high fow velocities should occur at the tube inlet.Thereore position inlet as ar as possible away romreturn line and drain line. Make sure that the fuid

circulation in the reservoir does keep return fow romsuction pipe inlet. In case o positive head use shuto valve in the inlet, monitored with proximity switchor equivalent to avoid start up o motor when valveis closed. When installed into the reservoir use shortsuction pipe with pipe end cut under 45.

    Pressure port

Select correct pressure rating or pipe, hose and con-nectors. Take pressure peaks into account. Dimensionthe piping according to the port size. Prevent excitationo the system by using fexible port connections.

    Drain port

Always use highest possible drain port o the pump.Drain port must be higher than pump centerline orinstall additional air bleed line. Never combine pumpdrain line with other return lines and/or drain lines.Pump shall not be able to run empty. Max. allowablecase pressure 0.5 bar (2 bar peak), also duringcompensation.

Use low pressure pipe/hose, as short as possible andull cross section according to port dimension. Do notuse elbows or sharp corners. When drain port is on the

side o the pump drain line should have bridge higherthan pump top (also when installed in reservoir). Drainpipe must end at least 200 mm below fuid level evenat lowest lling level. Never let drain fow go direct intosuction area o reservoir (temperature, air bubbles).Max. length 2 m, otherwise use larger pipe diameterthan port size.

Note: During operation o PV pumps o all sizes underthe ollowing conditions:

    Q ~ Qmax

    pinlet

    < 2 bar absoluteP

    outlet< 25 bar

    (e. g. low pressure circulation) the drain fow canchange direction. Fluid is taken rom the case into thepiston mainly through the decompression orice andacross the slippers. There is a danger that the pumpcase runs dry, the pump overheats and the bearingslack o lubrication when the fuid is removed rom thepump case.

Thereore the drain pipe must be able to take fuidrom the reservoir. That means: The drain line mustend below fuid level, and a check valve in the drain

The PV pumps o design series 45 are equipped withthree drain ports. In addition pumps with special seals(seal options W, P, S or X5877 (mechanical shatseal)) or with modication 5830 (bearing fushing port)are equipped with a fushing port or ront bearingand shat seal. The fushing fow can - depending onthe actual working conditions - be used to keep thepump case lled, to warm up the pump (during coldtemperature operation) or or better heat dissipatione. g. or operation with HFC fuids (water glycole) tokeep the case fuid temperature in the allowed range.Permanent dead head operation ( >15 min) either orpumps o rame size 3 and larger (PV063 and higher)or at high input speeds above 1,800 rpm requiresfushing o the pump case.

    Drive input

For direct drive use elastic coupling ree o axialand radial reaction orces. Please ollow strictly theinstructions o the coupling supplier regarding axialclearance, axial displacement and angular tolerances.

Couplings never shall be mounted using a hammer.Threads in the shat end allow smooth mounting othe coupling.

The drive shat should only carry true torque. ContactParker or allowable side loads or axial orces.

PV pumps are normally or one direction o rotationonly. Thereore check rotation o drive motor prior toinstallation.

    Electrical interace

Check voltage, current, phase and connection proper-ties. Veriy direction o motor rotation.

Fluid reservoirThe reservoir needs to meet all system requirementsconcerning design, size, location and porting. Besidebeeing reservoir or the hydraulic fuid, the tank alsosupports heat dissipation, air removal, water removaland contamination sedimentation. Oten the reservoiralso is the undament or the motor pump unit. In thiscase the separation o pump and remaining struc-ture by elastic means is mandatory to avoid noiseand vibration being induced into the rame work. Thereservoir needs to be careully sealed against ingres-

sion o contamination and water. A level indicator andthermometer should be placed in an easily accessiblelocation.Fluid content (general rule): stationary systems 3 to4 times pump nominal fow, 1 times or even smallerin mobile systems.

Filling o the systemUse only high quality mineral oil based fuids, likeHLP oils according to DIN 51524 part 2. For otherfuids (HFC, HFD, bio degradable or synthetic fuids)please contact Parker and review the Hydraulic Fluids

Inormation in Catalogue 2500/UK.Operation viscosity should be 16 to 100 mm/s, op-timum viscosity range is in the 20 to 40 mm/s, max.viscosity or short time up to 320 mm/s.Because o the possibly uncompatible ingredientsfuids should not be mixed (separation o fuid, reduc-tion or loss o fuid properties).

Pay highest attention on cleanliness!Fill system only via a ltration device. Use ltrationunit, when basic contamination o the rell fuid ex-ceeds class 10 according NAS 1638 (contaminationlevel 21/19/16 according to ISO 4406). Hydraulicfuid supplied in barrels typically exceeds these con-tamination levels.

FiltrationFiltration is the most important actor to the opera-tional lie o the hydraulic system. Statistical analy-sesindicate, that contamination is by ar the most impor-tant reason or system or component ailure.

Use return line, pressure and/or bypass ltration.Bypass ltration usually is most ecient. For generalpurpose hydraulic systems with limited requirementsor operational lie contamination level 19/15 accord-ing to ISO 4406 should be desired; corresponding lterrating: x = 25 m ( b

    2575 ) according to ISO 4572.

Cleanliness level or systems with higher re-quire-ments or operational lie and unctional saety shouldbe 18/16/13 according to ISO 4406; correspondinglter rating x = 10 m ( b

    1075 ) according to ISO

    4572.

Use lter with indicator or electrical signal when ca-pacity limit is approached.

Suction lter should be avoided. Suction conditionswill be aected. Filter can be blocked and cause

cavitation and severe pump damage. When used, avacuum sensor with shut o unction is mandatory.

Properly dimensioned breather rating 10 m shouldbe used. Observe min. and max. fuid level; considerexchange volume with cylinders in the system.

    Filling o pump case

Pump case must be lled via the drain port, to ensurelubrication, sealing and smooth start up.

    Start up

Check i all ports are properly connected accordingto the specication, all connectors are tightened andall adjustments are made.

    Open suction valve (i installed)!

Switch system to ree circulation or to lowest pressure.Allow air bleeding or quick priming. Start pump in tipmode operation until pump and all pipes are lledand ree rom air bubbles. I pump does not build uppressure, double check the installation.

Raise pressure setting only when all air is removed.Let the pump work at reduced pressure or 5 - 10min, check i all pipes and connections are leak reeand tight.

Observe reservoir: fuid level, built up o oam, fuidtemperature. When system is warmed up rst unc-tional tests can be perormed.

    2. Displacement adjustment

All axial piston pumps o the PV series are equippedwith an adjustable displacement limiter.

The servo piston stroke is limited at ull displacementby a screw, guided in the end cover plug o the servopiston bore. The screw is protected against uninten-tional adjustment by a sel-sealing lock nut (see gureon page 4).

The actory setting o the displacement is according tothe nominal displacement o the pump. An adjustment

may only be made to a lower displacement (turningscrew in). An adjustment to a higher than the nominaldisplacement can destroy the pump.

Adjustment should only be made with the pump work-ing at ull displacement (not compensated) and at alow output. At ull displacement the piston area o theservo piston is under case pressure. Opening thesel-sealing nut will only cause a negligible leakageunder these conditions.

Turning the adjustment screw clockwise will reducethe pumps displacement. For the sizes PV016 PV092 the thread pitch is 1mm, or sizes PV140 PV270 the thread pitch is 1.5 mm. The table showsthe displacement change per mm resp. per turn andthe minimum adjustable displacement.

Note: All pumps are adjusted and tested ater as-sembly in our actory. Only the compensator pressureneeds to be adjusted. That is done on the pilot valvespindle. No other adjustments on the compensatoror the pump is required. Only ater service or repaira basic adjustment needs to be perormed.

    3. Standard pressure compensator, code ...MMC

The adjustment o the compensating pressure isperormed or the standard pressure compensatordirectly at the compensator.

To adjust the pressure, the lock nut (SW 13) is to beloosened and the adjustment spindle is to be turned(screw driver).

Turning clockwise will increase the compensatingpressure, turning counter-clockwise will decrease thecompensating pressure.

The compensating pressure can be adjusted in arange rom 15 to 350 bar (approx. 100 bar/turn).

By turning the pressure pilot cartridge housing the

compensator dierential can be adjusted. It is actoryset to 151 bar and should not be changed (approx.20 bar/turn).

Dierent compensator dierential settings can causeinstability or excessive power losses.

By using adapter kit PVCMCK** the standard pres-sure compensator can be made remote controllable. This adapter replaces one o the side plugs. Adapt-ers are available or G1/4, M12x1.5 ISO 6149 and7/16-20 UNF.

    4. Standard pressure compensator with D03interace, code ...MM1

The standard pressure compensator code ...MM1 hastopside an NG6/Cetop 3/NFPA D03 interace or themounting o suitable pilot valves. This compensatorcan or example be directly equipped with a propor-tional pressure pilot valve or electrical pressure set-

ting (ordering code ...MMD, see gure on page 9).The pilot valve must be capable o pilot fows o ap-prox. 1,2 l/min. Thereore a nominal fow range o 3- 6 l/min is recommended. A too small as well as atoo large pilot valve can lead to unsatisactory com-pensator perormance.

In addition the compensator can be equipped with adirectional control valve or stand-by (unloading) unc-tions (ordering code ...MMW, see gure on page 9).

    pressureadjustment

    5. Standard pressure compensator or accessorymounting, code ...MMZ

    interace NG6DIN 24 340

Version ...MMZ is designed especially or compen-sator accessory mounting (ordering code PVAC...,see chapter 12).

Because the accessory packages come with theirown pilot valves, this version has no integrated pilotcatridge to avoid unwanted interaction.

For more details on the dierent compensator options

see also the PV compensator spare parts manual orcompensator design 45, Parker bulletin PVI-PVC-45-GB.pd.

    Note:

Checking and adjusting the compensator dierentialshould always be done by using two pressure sen-sors/gages. Measuring one pressure only (pumpoutlet pressure) and assuming, that the pilot pres-sure at ully unloaded pilot valve resp. with unloadproportional pilot valve is 0 bar can lead to completelywrong adjustments.

The dierent pilot valves can cause even at thenominal pilot fow (1,2 - 1,4 l/min) already signicantback pressures which add to the compensator di-erential.

Only i the pilot pressure chamber is completely un-loaded (e. g.: when one o the side plugs is removed orthe DCV is in stand-by mode) it can be assumed, thatthe pilot pressure is zero and pump outlet pressure isequal to the compensator dierential setting.

    interace NG6DIN 24 340

Please note: when mounting accessories (e. g.:proportional pressure pilot valve) or external (remote)control the integrated pilot valve rst must be turnedin to avoid too early pressure limitation.lock nut

    6. Remote pressure compensator, codes ...MRC,...MR1 and ...MRZ

The remote pressure compensators code ...MR*are equipped with a remote control port. To this portexternal pilot valves can be connected. The distancebetween pump and pilot valve can be up to 15 m.The pilot line should be designed, to avoid pressurelosses.

Especially at low environmental temperatures a toonarrow pilot line can result in a signicant pressureincrease. The nominal pilot fow is in the range o 1.2to 1.4 l/min.

Beside the version shown above (code ...MRC) alsoa version ...MR1 with a topside NG6 / D03 interace isavailable as well as a version ...MRZ without integratedpilot valve or the use with compensator accessoriescode PVAC... .

For the compensators with code ...MM* and ...MR* thepilot pressure pressure supply is maintained throughan orice located in the control spool.

    7. Load sensing compensator, codes ...MFC,...MF1 and ...MFZ

The load sensing or fow compensator primarilycontrols the pump output fow. To achieve this theload pressure ater a main stream throttle valve (load

sensing valve, not included in the shipment o thepump) is connected to the load sensing port o thecompensator. The compensator control strategy is,to keep the pressure drop constant across this mainstream throttle valve.

The integrated pilot valve maintains a pressurecompensation when the adjusted max. pressure isreached. The pilot orice 0,8 mm is located in theload sensing port adapter. This orice replaces theorice in the control spool o the ...MM* and ...MR*compensators, because pilot pressure is in the loadsensing compensator provided through the load

    sensing line.

The length o the load sensing line can be up to 15 m.I the line is longer than 5 m it has to be considered, that low environmental temperatures and high fuidviscosity can have a negative infuence to the com-pensator perormance.

The line should be designed to avoid any signicantpressure drop.

Factory setting or the load sensing pressure dier-ential is 10 bar 1 bar. This adjustment should onlybe changed in exceptional cases.

The adjustment is possible by turning the pilot valvehousing ater loosening the lock nut.

Please reer to the setting instructions on page 7.

All compensators described in chapters 3 - 6 can beshipped with a directional control valve or stand-byoperation (compensator codes ends with..W) or witha proportional pilot valve or electrical pressure adjust-ment (compensator code ends with ..D)

    fow control stage

The two spool compensator, code ...MT* has twoseparate compensator valves or fow (load sensing)and pressure compensation.

That results in a steeper pressure compensationcurve, which can be benecial in certain applica-tions.

The fow control stage has no integrated pilot valve, because this would eliminate the eect o the twospool control. The pressure stage has no integratedpilot valve, because during fow control the T port othe pressure compensator is under control pressure.

This would prevent the pilot valve rom opening. With the adapter kit PVCMCK.. the pressure compen-sator can be made remote controlled.

On the topside interace any pressure pilot valve canbe mounted. See chapter 3 or requirements.

The actory setting o the fow compensator is 10 1 bar, the adjustment or the pressure compensa-tor is 15 1 bar. These adjustments should not bemodied.

I dierent adjustments are required by the system orby the load sensing valves used in the system, seepage 7 or setting instructions.

With ordering code ...MTP a manual adjustable pres-sure pilot valve code PVAC1PM*S35 is mounted onthe elbow maniold.

With ordering code ...MTD a proportional pilot valvecode PVACPPM*35 is mounted on top. For electronicpressure control a suitable power amplier is required. We recommend the digital modules PCD00... suppliedby Parker HCD.

Because the two spool compensator has no integratedpilot valves, or a stand-by unction the compensatoraccessory PVAC1EM*C**35, including a directionalcontrol valve and a pilot section, is required.

Depending on its type, the horse power compensatorconsists o a remote pressure compensator or a loadsensing compensator in combination with the horse

power pilot cartridge. The opening pressure o thispilot cartridge depends on the actual displacemento the pump. At large displacements the openingpressure is low. As the displacement is reduced theopening pressure is increased according to the ormo the contour sleeve in the pump. That leads to thedesired control characteristic (constant input horsepower).

That is achieved by having the pilot cartridge seat be-ing guided by the contour sleeve. This contour sleeveis rmly connected to the servo piston. The contourrepresents the desired input horse power.

The horse power pilot cartridge is internally con-nected to the compensator valve. Compensator valvesor horse power compensated pumps dier romstandard compensator valves only in the act, that aplug in a connecting hole is removed.

For a standard horse power compensator with order-ing code ...*L* a modied remote pressure compen-sator is used. For a horse power compensator withload sensing, code ...*C* a modied load sensingcompensator is used.

Constant horse power curve with adjustment

    9. Horse power compensator, codes ...*L*, ...*C*

At the adjustment screw o the horse power pilot valvea basic adjustment o the horse power compensatorcan be made. Ater loosening the lock nut (sel seal-ing nut) the compensator control curve can be movedby turning the adjustment screw (adjustment A inthe diagram let). This adjustment, done to meet therequired constant input horse power curve, is already

made during the actory test and should be modiedonly in exceptional cases.

To adjust the correct constant horse power curvea measuring device is required. An output powermeasurement requires pressure and fow metering. An input power measurement requires torque andspeed measurement or a measurement o the electricmotor current.

Note: For horse power control the load sensing di-erential is set to 15 1 bar. Any change will result ina deviation rom the horse power setting.

Note: The setting is very sensitive, 0,1mm change

o the spindle changes the pressure approximately20 bar.

Adjustment A: tolerance compensation or optimizedperormance; done at pilot cartridge.

10.1 Pressure relie pilot valve, code PVAC1P...

The pressure relie pilot valve code PVAC1P... is opti-mally tuned or the requirements o the compensator

valves o the series PV. It has a mounting interaceNG6 according to DIN 24340 and can be mounteddirectly on top o all compensator valves with thetopside mounting interace.

Such a valve is only necessary or the compensatorswith elbow maniold (...MT1 and ...UPR) and or theversions without integrated pressure pilot cartridge(compensator code ends with..Z). Al other versionsinclude an integrated pilot valve.

    lock nut

    set screw

Ater loosening the lock nut SW13 an adjustment othe compensating pressure or the pump is possiblein a range o approx. 20 bar up to 350 bar.

The pressure pilot valve is also available with a DINlock.

    10.2 Multiple pressure pilots PVAC1E...,

PVAC2P..., PVAC2E... und PVAC2M...For multiple pressure pilots, codes PVAC2P...,PVAC2E... and PVAC2M... a sandwich valve withtwo direct-action pressure cartridge valves is usedto pilot the pump.

nected to the compensator valve. The lower pressuredenes the compensating pressure o the pump. When the A solenoid (B-side) o the DCV is energizedonly the A-side cartridge is connected; the (higher)pressure adjusted there denes the compensating

pressure. When solenoid B is energized the valve spool con-nects all our ports. Then the spring chamber o thecompensator valve is directly relieved to the case draino the pump, the pump compensates at minimumcompensating pressure (stand-by).

The directional control valve series D1VW has spoolcode 55. This spool code is used to avoid a blockedspool position during transient.

This version is recommended, when during a ma-chine cycle the pressure is to be switched betweenhigh and low.

For code PVAC2M... also a dual solenoid valve isused. In neutral position all our ports are connected. The compensator spring chamber is releived to casedrain, the pump is compensating at min. compensat-ing pressure (stand-by).

When energizing solenoid A (B-side) the springchamber is connected to the A-side pilot cartridge;the pressure adjusted here controls the pump.

When solenoid B is energized the spring chambero the compensator is connected to pilot cartridge B;then the pressure adjusted on this cartridge denesthe pump compensating pressure. The DCV o series

D1VW has spool code 2.This version should be used, when stand-by operationshould be the deault situation.

Code PVAC1E... is similar to code PVAC2P..., with theexception, that only one pilot cartridge is installed. Inneutral position o the D1VW the stand-by pressureis selected.

During low pressure both pilotcartridges are connected to the compensator, in thehigh pressure setting (solenoid energized) only theA-side cartridge is connected. Thereore the B-sidepilot needs to be set or lower pressure. The directionalcontrol valve series D1VW has spool code 6.

For code PVAC2E... or pressure selection a two- so-lenoid DCV is included, which selects between lowpressure setting, high pressure setting and stand-bypressure. In neutral position both cartridges are con-
