The Chief Guest of our Installation meeting on July 16, 2017, Honorable Governor of Haryana, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, made an inspiring address in Hindi which he preferred to do so saying, “In our own language we can speak from the heart.” He was also pleased to mention about the District Conference 3080 held on 18th & 19th February 2017 at Karnal, which was inaugurated by him as the Chief Guest.

PRIP Raja Saboo went 40 years down the memory lane, to June 06, 1977 when in that year as our District Governor he presented the charter dated May 18, 1977 to our first President Rtn. Dr. B.D. Gupta and Secretary Rtn. Late Jawahar Gupta. PRIP Raja Saboo congratulated our club for taking up very appreciable projects all these years. He said Rotary Chandigarh Midtown has accepted many challenges as it has a strong foundation.

An impressive documentary film, “40 Year‟s of Journey of Service 1977-2017 of Rotary Chandigarh Midtown”, was presented by President Dr. Rita Kalra. The film was very well done by engaging professionals to produce the film which was three month‟s efforts by PDG Shaju Peter, PP B.L. Ramsisaria, PP R.K. Luther, PP Deepak Sood, PP RTPS Tulsi, Rtn. Prof. Rana Nayar (voice over and script), Rtn. Sanjay Bhatia, Rtn. Jeeten Bhambri, Rtn. Renu Chopra, President Dr. Rita Kalra (concept) and excellently produced by Rtn. Dr. Sanjay Kalra. It was a film by Creative Media Production directed by Sunil Mongia with camera men Deep Framez and Inder Singh.

Sad and shocking news. Demise of RI President Elect Sam Owori

It is with profound grief to inform that Rotary International President Elect Sam Owori, died on July 14, 2017.

Rotary International President Ian Riseley announced the sad news: "Sam had undergone some surgery in Texas that he had been planning for some time, and there were post-operative complications from which he couldn‟t recover. Sam was a special person in so many ways, and is a huge loss".

He studied law, employment relations, business management, corporate resources management, microfinance, and marketing at institutions in England, Japan, Switzerland, Tanzania and USA, including Harvard Business School.

A Rotarian since 1978, Owori has served Rotary as member or chair of several committees. He and his wife, Norah, are Major Donors and Paul Harris Fellows. RIPE Sam was the first Ugandan to be elected as RI President.

One minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to him in our meeting on July 16, 2017.

Where there is a will

To create awareness about our flag ship program to END TB NOW, we had organized a charity show to raise funds for Nutritional rehabilitation of Multi Drug Resistant TB and Leprosy Patients on 14th and 15th July 2017 at Law Auditorium, Panjab University.

„Where there is a will‟ is a drawing room comedy of a rich businessman who controls his family through money and loses a chance to develop meaningful interpersonal relationships. The play was acted and directed by the students; with Professor Rana Nayar as the overall incharge, and their mentor.

President Dr. Rita Kalra thanked Rtn. Prof. Rana Nayar for putting up an impressive show. She also thanked the promotion team; PP Deepak Sood, VP Salil Bali, Rtn. Nitin Kapur, Rtn. Sanjay Bhatia, Rtn. Kulbir Bhatia and Secretary Jeeten Bhambari for tremendous effort in motivating the audience, and supporting the cause: End TB Now.

Senior Medical Officer at Civil Hospital in Panchkula, she graduated from Medical College in Indore. Dr. Rita has excelled in whatever she has been doing in her profession, as a national athlete and as a dedicated Rotarian. Married to a well known dentist, Rtn. Dr. Sanjay Kalra, they are blessed with equally talented children. Son Dr. Ruchir is pursuing

his masters in dentistry at Mangalore. Daughter Aarushi, after doing masters in economics, is now a research associate in Delhi School of Economics. All four of them are Paul Haris Fellows, Dr. Rita being MPHF.

Expressing gratitude, PP Ritu Singal thanked Honorable Governor of Haryana Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, PRIP Raja Saboo and Usha ji for their gracious presence in our installation meeting, which was very inspiring for all of us.
