INTRODUCTION

This Deep Oil Pan can be installed inabout an hour by carefully following the

instructions. Transmission compo-nents are precision fit and dirt is thenumber one enemy of an automatictransmission. Cleanliness is very im-portant, so a clean work surface fromwhich oil can easily be removed isnecessary.Caution: Automatic transmissions op-erate at temperatures between 150°Fand 250°F. It is suggested that thevehicle be allowed to cool off for a fewhours to avoid burns from hot oil andparts. The vehicle should be off theground for ease of installation - jackstands, wheel ramps or a hoist willwork fine. MAKE SURE VEHICLE ISFIRMLY SUPPORTED - DO NOTWORK UNDER A VEHICLE IF IT ISSUPPORTED BY ONLY A JACK! Tryto raise the vehicle 1-2 feet so you willhave plenty of room to work. Also, havea small box to put bolts in and a drainpan to catch oil.

INSTALLATION

STEP 1. Drain the oil pan. Loosen andremove the oil pan bolts one at a time, working towards the front of the trans-mission. Remove the last two boltsslowly and the pan will tilt down to al-

low the last of the fluid to drain. If thepan sticks to the rubber gasket, pry itdown slightly with a screwdriver tobreak the seal before removing the lasttwo bolts. After the last bolt is removed, the pan and rubber gasket can be low-ered and set aside.STEP 2. The oil filter will now be ex-posed. Pull the filter out of the oilpump, being careful not to bend thefilter pickup tube as it is plastic andmay crack or break. The seal shouldremain in the pump - if it comes outwith the filter, remove it from the filterand carefully reinsert it back into thepump. B&M recommends that the fil-ter be changed at this time.STEP 3. The filter must be held in placewith the supplied steel bracket. Thisbracket is held in place by one of thevalve body bolts (please see figureone). Remove the bolt shown and in-stall the bracket (point the bracket to-wards the side of the vehicle asshown). Tighten the bolt to 8 lbs-ft -do not over tighten!STEP 4. Lubricate (with transmissionfluid) and install the supplied seal onthe filter tube as shown (please seefigure two). Place the filter and seal inthe tube. Install assembly back intothe oil pump bore being careful not todamage the seal in the pump.STEP 5. Clean the original rubber gas-ket. Install the deep pan using theoriginal rubber gasket and the suppliedpan bolts and washers (torque to 12lbs-ft). Do not overtighten as this cancause leaks. Make sure drain plug istight.STEP 6. Lower vehicle and add sixquarts of Dexron III or B&M Trick ShiftATF.STEP 7. Start the engine and placeshifter in the neutral position. Add fluiduntil the oil level is at the add mark.Shift the transmission through all gearpositions. Check the oil pan and gas-kets for leaks. Once the transmissionhas warmed up, add fluid to bring thelevel up to full. Do not overfill as thiscauses foaming and overheating.
