Brothers, where has the time gone? It seems like yesterday I was sworn in asPotentate and now half the year has moved on. But what a good six months,my hat is off to a great TEAM 2011. Many challenges have been picked upand achieved by our nobles with heart. Our clean up, paint up and fix up in-side and out made a big difference and was a great success. The picnic shelternow has proper working lights and fans just in time for all units to enjoy thisfacility. Our Team Vision Building work has moved inside, the finishing workcontinues towards completion, the cornerstone was set on May 28th.

Your donations are needed and greatly appreciated. If you wish to do-nate to the vision building please make your check to Al Menah Vision Build-ing and mail it to our office. The finishing touch is the printing of the AlMenah Team donation Plaque of strength, spirit and HEART.

The divan has been traveling many miles to our shrine clubs, bluelodges and paper sale kick- off cookouts. We have units and shrine clubs thatare continuing to conduct more paper sales and roadblocks to enhance theirtotals for our hospitals. Way to go nobles and good job teams, please don’tforget you plaque sales they are a huge part of our totals.

May was a full month of activities for the Nobility. The Mini Clinicchaired by Riley Tayes and his committee is always one of the special eventsclose to our hearts. Thanks so much, brothers for serving our kids. Thanks toGlenn and Madelyn Cunningham and their committee for a fun filled springparty. Where on earth did you get all that talent? Thanks to James Ham P.P.and Joe Wheeler for taking care of the men’s golf tournament. Chairman JeffHead and Johnny Dudley held the fishing tournament May 21st and as alwaysdid an outstanding job. Thanks Guys. Our annual Memorial Day weekendbar-b-que was a fun filled event with good food, good music and great fellow-ship. People were hauling the ribs; bar-b-que and fixings out by the plate andbag full. Thanks to our chairman David Smith P.P., Kenny Norman and theircommittee—it was truly a huge success.

Future activities are many; the ladies luncheon is June 4th at 11:00am atAl Menah Center. This luncheon is to honor the ladies of Al Menah for theirhelp keeping our Temple on top. God Bless you ladies for all you do. TheFamily Picnic will be chaired by Rick Rider and Jeff Head. Thank you bothfor creating another wonderful family day for Al Menah. There is a new eventon July 16th called a big river float. Chaired by Bubba Hayes and JamesHedgepath and it has the makings to be a fun event. Check out the Shriner formore information.

Please pray for all the sick and shut-ins, our families that have lost loveones and as always our heroes in the armed forces.

Yours in the Faith,

Melvin Meadows

CLOWNS

Howdy do Brothers, the clowns have reallybeen busy. With our paper sale behind us weare moving forward with parades and parties.Anyone who attended the Spring Party will at-test it was a hoot and a great time was had byall. Thanks to all who made the party a suc-cess and a night of enjoyment. The clowns put on a great show for the kids atour annual Easter egg hunt and a great timewas had by all. Some of the skits includedwere the Boxing Act, the Rocket Act and theinfamous Tater and the Diggers. The kids andadults alike had a great time. Congrats to ournew clown Gregory “Elmo” Elmore. We areglad to have him among us. I have a couplecorrections to make as well (or I will neverhear the end of it and probably won’t any-ways). I listed our very own Danny “Slap-stick” Gentry as James Gentry in my list ofSESCA winners for character clowns, and Iomitted Riley “Tater” Tayes from the seniorslist. Slapstick brought home 2nd place andTater brought home top ten. Great job fellasand sorry for the errors. Glad to make it right.

Let’s please remember our sick brothersand fellow clowns. We have far too manyunder the weather and they, as well as theirfamilies, need our support. Please rememberour ladies, and the kids we work so hard for.And don’t forget our foundation, our Masoniclodges and bodies. We would not be herewithout them.

Keep ‘em grinning,Kenny “Rags” Wilee

HORSE PATROL

We had excellent weather for the 41st annualAl Menah Shriners paper sale. It was an honorto participate in such a noble cause. Here is aVidalia recipe: peel and core half waythrough a whole onion, place a bouillon cubeand a pat of butter in onion, season with redpepper and Worcestershire sauce, bake(wrapped in aluminum foil) until tender. Try it,you will like it! We hope all is well withyou, we are doing well and we’ll see yousoon. This came straight from the horse’smouth.

On May 11, the Divan went to the Liv-ingston area and swore in five new nobles. The Divan and membership chairman, JohnnyDudley PP, continue to work hard to increaseour membership. We ask you to be aware ofsomeone you think would be interested in be-coming a noble and encourage them.

Enjoy your summer and continue to prayfor those who are less fortunate and do nothave the opportunities that others have. Also, pray for our service men and women whomake it possible for us to enjoy the life that wehave. Remember the kids.

Arizona does not remember when she started noticing that her ears protrud-ed too much, she just remembers that she never pulled her hair back without wearing a headband and has always been self-conscious about her ears.

“People started to make comments a few years ago,” said her mom, Steph-anie. “We’ve thought about this sur-gery for two years. It was a hard deci-sion for us to make. No one wants to think about cosmetic plastic surgery on a young girl.”

Arizona’s family knew a young boy who had the same surgery at Shriners Hospitals for Children® – Cincinnati, so in addition to talking with them, Stephanie thoroughly researched her options and got second opinions. “We met with several doctors in the area, but knew our best option was with Shriners Hospitals for Children®,” said Stephanie.

“Probably no other physical character-istic indicates a need for plastic sur-gery than protruding ears,” said Kevin Yakuboff, MD, FACS, FAAPS, chief of plastics at Shriners Hospitals for Chil-dren® – Cincinnati. “Even if the ears are only mildly distorted, protruding ears can lead to self-consciousness and comments from other children.”

About Ear SurgeryWhen considering otoplasty, parents must be confident that they have their child’s best interest at heart. A positive attitude toward the surgery is an important factor, especially when the patient is a child or adolescent. When it comes to otoplasty, conventional wisdom is the earlier the better. The surgery is relatively simple, as the surgeon makes a small incision behind the ear, in the natural fold where the ear is joined to the head. The surgeon removes the necessary amounts of cartilage and skin required to achieve the right effect for the patient. The risks are minimal to this surgery. There will be a thin white scar behind the ear after healing. Children are generally seen once prior to surgery by the medical team in Cincinnati. Surgery can be scheduled often within 8-12 weeks after the first appointment. After surgery, patients are seen in 7-10 days with one or two follow-up visits after the first post-op visit.

Ear surgery makes it possible to correct a flaw that can often undermine one’s self-confidence. By changing how you look, this surgery can help change how you feel about yourself.

with families to discuss successful otoplasty surgery. To schedule an ap-pointment or talk with a care coordi-nator, call the Cincinnati hospital at 513-872-6240 or e-mail at [email protected].
