Thisyear,wehavenotonlysuccess-fullyfinishedandstartedmanyaprojectbutwehavealsofusedoursubsidiaryDCAirportsGmbHandhoffmannröderhochbauGmbHtotheaffiliateDCWasser&UmweltGmbH.Thus,increatingDorschInternationalConsultantsGmbH,wehaveobtainedacompanywith220employeeswhichgeneratesanan-nualturnoverofEuro2�million.Inadditiontogeneratingmoretrans-parency,thisfusionwillhelptoposi-tionusmoredistinctlyattheglobalmarket.Inspiteofbeinginternation-allyaligned,thisnewcompanyhasitsheadquartersinGermany,andthisassetmaymaximiseoureconomicdevelopment,forGermanengineer-ingknow-howisstillhighlyregardedonaninternationallevel.WewouldliketothankyouforsupportingthefurtherdevelopmentofDorschasaleadingGermanconsulterandforcontributingtothiseveryday.
In20�0DorschGroupagainre-cordedasustainedgrowthofmorethan�6%andhasthuscontinueditssuccessfuldevelopment.Here,itshouldbementionedthat70%ofourturnoverisgainedabroad.TheawardofthedevelopmentofthenewdistrictAlGhadeerandtheawardofthenewharbourprojectinAbuDhabiandalsotheextensiverailwayprojectsinLibyaandIraqaswellasfurtherwaterprojectsontheArabianPeninsulaillustrateDorschGroup’sstrongpositionattheArabianmarketandthatweare
well-positionedinalmostallofthe22Arabiancountries.IncreatingtheGreenBuildingdepartmentinAbuDhabiatthebeginningoftheyear,weprovedthatwenotonlyareup-to-date,butwealsosuccessfullysetnewtrends.InIndiaandSoutheastAsiawehavebeenabletoabsorbtheeffectsofthefinancialcrisis,whichcanbetracedinthecurrentstabil-ity,growthandgrowingdemand.Thenewly-foundedbranchofficeinBangladeshiscurrentlyalreadywork-ingonfollow-uporders.
InGermanyweareabletoperformcomplexandlastingconstructionprojectsintegratingthemostdiversespecialties:e.g.thewaterandenvi-ronmentsectionofDorschInterna-tionalConsultantshasbeenassignedtheplanningfortheoverhaulofthesluicesystemstomaintainthenavigabilityandthestabilityoftheNeckar’ssluicesforthenext80years.Thisdoesnotonlyrequiretheknow-howoftheentireDorschGroup,butitalsobecomesevidentthatsustaina-bilityisanissueinGermanyaswellasfortheawardingauthoritiesofothercountrieswhichweworkin.

Foreign Minister Westerwelle Visits Dorsch Project: Gaza Central Wastewater Treatment Plant
In200�theDorschGroupwasas-signedtheGazaCentralWastewaterTreatmentPlantproject(Palestine)bytheCoastalMunicipalWaterUtility/PalestinianWaterAuthorityGaza.
Theoverallobjectiveoftheprojectistocontributetowardsprotectingtheregionalgroundwaterresourcesandtoreducehealthriskstothepopu-lationofthecityofGazaandfiveothercommunities.
Thespecificprojectobjectiveistoensureanenvironmentallyandhy-gienicallysafetreatmentofsewageinthecentralGazaStrip,comprisingGazaCityandthecentralCommuni-ties(Buriej,DeirElBalah,etal)withatotalof�.�millionpopulationequivalent.
Theprojectwillprovideafullyfunctionalsewerageandwastewatertreatment(WWTP)system.Aspecificstudyfortheoptimizationofsystemsfordealingwiththeeffluentandsludgehasalsobeencarriedout:itprovidesnotonlyforecologically
andeconomicallysoundreuseunderpresentconditions,butallowsalsoformaximumflexibilityforup-gradingtosuitfuturereusestrategies.
Asafirststage,theexistingSheikhAjleenWWTPisbeingupgradedtotreat75,000m�/day,togetherwiththreeyearsoperationalsupport.
Inthenextstage,anewcentralWWTPwillbeconstructedinBuriejunderperformance-basedcontractstoprovidecapacityforthenext20years.
Recently,on8thNovember20�0,GermanforeignministerGuidoWesterwellevisitedtheprojectwiththeCMWUrepresentatives,officialsfromtheMunicipalities,KfWandKeithBrookefromDorschEgypt.
Thisarousedwidepublicinterestandwascoveredbyapproximately40journalists,someofwhichweresentbytheGermanpublicbroadcastersDWandZDF.
ThestorywasairedduringtheGermaneveningnewscast.

DICwasrepresentedwithastandincooperationwiththepartnercom-panyIncoWest.ThroughoutthethreedaystheDorsch-standprovedtobeapreferredmeetingpointforrep-resentativesfrombothnationalandinternationalcompaniesaswellasfrompublicandprivateorganisations.Inparticular,thevisitoftheMinisterMr.SokolOlldashiwasahighlight.

Althoughanentirelynewprojectandconcept,someofthereliabletechnicaldatacollectedaspartofthepreviousMasterPlanstudywasusedwhererelevant(inparticulargeologicalandmeteorologicaldata).
Oneofthemainchallengesofprepar-ingtheLandUsePlanwastotranslatetheyearlypassengerandcargotrafficforecasts,preparedforGIAbyaUK-basedaviationconsultingcompany,intoawell-functioningandefficientairportlayout.Focuswaslaidonap-propriatelysizedfacilitiesaswellasrightinterdependenciesbetweenair-portfunctionsandbuildings,allowingforaflexibleexpansionpotential.
TheAirport’sshort-,medium-andlong-termdevelopment,isplannedaccordingtothefollowingphasedconcept(fourdevelopmentphases):
• Phase�:20�5-20�9• Phase2:2020-2029• Phase�:20�0-20�9• Phase4:2040+
Theshorterinitialphase(Phase�)of5yearsallowsflexibilitytoadapttotheinitialdemand,andpermitstominimizeinitialCapitalExpenditures(CAPEX)fortheproject.DuringPhase�,theairportwillbedesignedtoaccommodateupto9millionannualpassengers.Theultimatephase(Phase4)representstheairportdevelopmentvisionuptoacapacityof�0millionannualpassengers.
Inordertoproperlydimensionallfacilities(e.g.thepassengertermi-nalbuilding,cargofacilities,aircraftapronsetc.)andtodetermineasuitablephasing(e.g.forrunwaysystemcapacity,withregardstothenecessityofasecondrunway),Dorschpreparedtypicalpeak-hour(TPH)forecastsbasedontheprovidedyearlyforecasts.TheTPHestimates

Gateway International Airport –Ogun State, Nigeria
TheGatewayInternationalAirport(GIA)projectconsistsofthedevelop-mentofanew“Greenfield”AirportinNigeria’sOgunState,approximately60kilometresnortheastofLagosandtheexistingMurtalaMuhammedInternationalAirport(LOS).
ThenewAirportisintendedasamoderngatewaytoOgunanditsneighbouringStates,includingLagos,wherethecity’sexistinginternationalairportispartiallyconstrainedandlocatedwithinadenselypopulatedarea.
Withastartofoperationsexpectedin20�5,GIAwillbedevelopedasaworld-classairport,accommodatingpassenger,cargoandgeneralaviationtraffic.Nigeria’sfastgrowingpopula-tionandeconomy,especiallyaroundLagosandtheOgunState,belongtothekeyrationaleoftheproject.
Duringthesecondhalfof2009andpartof20�0,DorschInternationalConsultantsmaintainedextensivecon-tactwithHamburg-basedghsheritageGmbH,andsupportedthemduringtheproject’sinitiationphase.Thankstothisengagement,DorschwasselectedinJune20�0topreparethe
LandUsePlanforthenewAirport,toshow,interalia:
• therequiredareasfortheAirportsite
• themainAirportfacilityrequire-ments(landside,terminal,andairside)
• long-termdevelopmentofairportfacilitieswithphasingfortheplanningperiod(20�5-2040+)
• Interfacingwithgroundaccesssystems(proposedrailandroadaccess)
Assuch,theLandUseplanincludesmanyofthekeyitemsoftheAirportplanningphase,andservesasacom-prehensivepreambletothefollowingMasterPlanningandDesignPhases.
Thissteppermitstoverifythatallrequiredairportcomponentscanbeaccommodatedwithintheavailablesiteboundariesuptotheultimatedevelopmentphase.
ThefirstintentionoftheOgunStatewastobuildanairportservingmainlycargotrafficforagriculturalgoods.Intheyear2008,anOutlineMasterPlanReportwasthereforepreparedfortheagrocargoairportproject.Later,theprojectwasabandonedandthenewGIApassengerairportproject,leadby
ProjectsiteinNigeria(sourceofbackgroundpicture:GoogleEarthPro)and�Dimpressionsofairportconcepts
increasedroleinthefollowingprojectstepsinsupportingtheAirportsdivision.
ThisinvolvementincludesasitevisitinNigeriafordatacollectionandverification,aswellastoconductinterviewsofrelevantofficials.Inparalleltoourservices,otherinterna-tionalcompaniesparticipatingintheprojectareinchargeoftheAirTrafficForecasts,FinancialPlan,CommercialPlanning,andRailwayPlanning.
TheDraftLandUsePlanwassubmit-tedearlyNovember20�0,andthefinalPlanisexpectedtobecompletedinJanuary20��.
Dorschwillcontinuetoworkex-tensivelyontheprojectduringthefollowingmonths,withtheprepara-tionoftheterminalspaceprogramandtheconceptsforwatersupply&sanitation,powersupply&communi-cations,andfuelsupply.
Followingprojectstepsareexpectedtoinclude,inparticular,theprepara-tionofasiteclearanceplanaswellasfurtherplanninganddesignservices.
ThesefacilityrequirementswerethenassembledandtranslatedintoatailoredLandUsePlan,andassoci-atedlayoutswererealizedforeachofthefourdevelopmentphases,usingthelatestAutoCADandCivil�D20��software.
AspartoftheLandUsePlan,DorschalsodevelopedpreliminaryAirportCAPEXestimatesforallabovemen-tionedairportfacilities,forphases�to4.
Theestimatesweredevelopedac-cordingtoourexpertiseandpreviousprojectexperienceinAfrica,andaresubsequentlyusedasthemaininputtodevelopthefinancialmodelaspartoftheproject’sBusinessPlan.
TheAirportLandUsePlanispartofalargerscopeoftechnicalservicespro-videdbyDorschfortheGIAproject.Forthisprojectindeed,wearesup-portingtheClientwithamulti-disci-plinaryapproach,offeringconsultingservicesinairportplanning(AirportsDivision),watersupply,sanitationandgeotechnics(WaterandEnvironmentDivision),ArchitectureandTerminalSpacePlanning(BuildingsDivision),andPower,FuelSupplyandCommu-nications(subcontractor).These,aswellastheTransportandInfrastruc-turedivision,areexpectedtoplayan
(thebestdesigncriteriatoplanallairportfacilities)weredevelopedforthefollowing:

Inthecontextoftheperformanceplanningoftheby-passroadFriedrichsdorf,L�057new,Dorschhasbeenassignedtheplanningof4bridgestructuresforthecrossingsofstreamsaswellasasupplementofthesoilsurveyreportfortheplanningofthealsoproject-relevantagriculturalroadbridgeincooperationwiththestructuraldesignsectionoftheAmtfürStrassen-undVerkehrswesenFrankfurt(RoadandTrafficAuthorityFrankfurt).
Fortheproject“DeconstructionoftherailwaycrossingDahlewitz“DorschhasbeenassignedthecostestimationinthesystemoftheprogramGRANIDbyourassociatedcompanyBDC.
ThisprojecthasprovedonceagainhowwellandefficientlythesinglecompaniesoftheDorschGroupworktogether.
OnthebasisofthecurrentdemandanalysisfortheDorsch-designed
designafterredbook)ofanirrigatedbufferzonearoundtheairport.
Theimplementationwillbecarriedoutinseveralphases;thefinalstagewillhaveatotalareaofabout800ha.
Amasterplanwaspreparedfortheoverallplanning.
Further,aconceptualdesignincludingahydraulicstudywithEPANETwascompletedforthepilotzoneofabout�00ha.

AnotherinterestingprojectisfromtheSoutheastofNorthrhine-West-phalia,procuredbyourcolleaguesfromtheofficeinEssen.Theenginee-ingcompanyKlapp+MüllerGmbHisplanningthenewdevelopmentofa
traffic.Inthenearsurroundingsofthelinktherearelargeretailmarketswhichcausemuchtraffic.
ByextendedplanningtheFlörsheimerStrasseistoberelievedandthe

Thedesignservicesandconstruc-tionalexecutioniswell-coordinatedwithFraport,theHessianTransportEngineeringAuthorityandthelocalconstructionauthoritiesofthecitiesofRaunheimandKelsterbach.

New Design Contract Assigned by the City of Cottbus, Germany
InJuly20�0theplanningpartnershipofBDCDorschConsultandHenryRipkeArchitectswasassignedtheredesignoftherailwaystationsur-roundingsofCottbus.
ThisisthesecondmajorprojectBDCConsulthasbeenassignedbythetownofCottbuswithinashorttime,alongsidewiththeplanningforsitedevelopmentoftheTechnologyandIndustryPark.
Theprojectconsistsoftheredesignoftherailwaystationsurroundingstoobtainacentralinterchangesta-tionconcerninglocalpublictransportandrailtransportationservices.Thisplanningcoversfiveinvestigationareasincludingtwohighlystrainedinner-citystreetjunctions.
Therequiredservicesincludetrafficsurvey,planningofroadfacilitiesandrailwayfacilities(tramway)andparkingareas,publiclighting,atownplanningtechnicalpaperaswellastheplanningofopenspaces,eachfollowingallservicephasesofHOAI.
Inthistaskthetransferconnectionsbetweenallcarriers,withaspecial
focusontheoptimizationoflocalpublictransport,andthefootandbicycletrafficareparticularlyimportant.
Theurbanlayoutandthecreationofrecreationspacesareparticularlyinfocus.
Theplanningbasefortherequiredserviceswascreatedon24thJune2009bytheofficialdecisionofthecitycouncilassemblyupdatingVEPCottbus,publictransportsystem2020.
InthelastyearstheteamworkbetweenBDCandHenryRipkeArchitectshasprovedsuccessful.
Thepartnership(togetherwithathirdpartner)haswontheEuropeancallfortendersforthenewrecon-structionoftheDessaubridgeovertheriverMuldeaswellasanarchitecturalprojectcompetition(firstwithconsequentassignmentoftheproject)forapedestrianandcycletrackbridgeinKönigswuster-hausen.
Furtherjointprojects,amongothersforthesenatedepartmentofurbandevelopmentinBerlin,areregularlysupervised.
ThisiswhymanynewtaskshavebeenassignedtotheWaterMainte-nanceAssociations,manyofwhichhaveconsequentlyrequiredBDC’ssupportinplanningandconstructionsupervisionservices.
Thenewtasks,amongothers,includerenovation,replacement,reconstructionanddismantlingofwaterfacilitiesunderthestate’sruleaswellastheupgradingofwaterstoachievethemanagementobjectives.
BDCiscurrentlysupervisingseveralprojectsfortheWaterMaintenanceAssociation„KleineElster-Pulsnitz”andtheWaterandSoilAssocia-tions„OberlandCalau“,„NördlicherSpreewald“and„Uckermark-Havel“,alongsidethecurrentprojectfortheEnvironmentalAgencyoftheStateofBrandenburg.

Brandenburg’sWaterbodyNetworkincluding��,000kmflowingwatersand�,000lakeshasbeenchangedforcenturies.
Smallrivershavealsobeenmadenavigableandnetworkedbychannels.
Inthepast,thetradebetweenElbe,SilesiaandEastPrussiatookplaceonthisoldestnavigablewaterwaynet-work,andBerlinwassuppliedwithbuildingmaterial,fuelandagricul-turalproducts.
