Followingthesuccessin24yearsofDorschinUnitedArabEmirates,ithasbeenaculturetoshareandcel-ebrateyearlythespiritofholymonthofRamadan.

Asannualcelebrationofthesacredmonth,DorschHolding-DCAbuDhabiendowedanIftarPartytoitsrespectedclientsheldinAlThurayaBallroomB&CinBeachRotanaHotelonAugust22nd,20��.

Theeventcouldnothavebeenthesuccesswithoutthededicationofthemanagementteam,andtheinvalu-ablebehind-the-scenesworkoftheorganizer.

Everyyearforone(�)completelunarmonth,theninth(9th)monthofIs-lamicCalendar,itisareligiousbeliefandpracticethateveryMuslimmustperformsacrificesandfast.

DorschHoldingbasedinAbuDhabiisdelightfulingivingrespecttoitspeople,families,friendsandcolleaguesfortheholymonthofRamadanbysharingandcelebratingittogether.

Thisyear’sDorschIftarPartyinAbuDhabiwithitshighlyvaluedstaffsheldatLeRoyalMeridienHotel(LayaliElHilmiyaTent)onAugust�8th,20��.

Itisalsoacelebrationtoacknowl-edgeandappreciatethehardworkandeffortcontributedbyeachteammemberforthebettermentofthecompany.

Afriendly-happyenvironmentwasconveyedbyeveryoneastheyenteredthevenue;everybodywassurroundedbythepolite,helpfulandhospitableevent’screw.TheDCAbuDhabiteamenjoyedadelightfuldinnerandspentseveralentertain-inghoursjointlyinthehotel’suniqueatmosphere.

Dorsch International

German Minister Dirk Niebel visited Dorsch Project in Albania

InthecourseofhisBalkanjourney,DevelopmentCooperationMinisterDirkNiebelvisitedourprojectinBeratandKocova.ThisisaprojectfinancedbytheGermanMinistryofDevelopmentCooperationaimingatasustainedimprovementofthewatersupplyinbothMiddleAlbaniancities.

Thetransportlinebetweenthetwosupplyareaswasofficiallyoperatedforthefirsttimeduringtheinaugu-rationparty,inwhichnotonlyMin-isterNiebeltookpart,butalsotheAlbanianPrimeMinisterSalihBerishaaswellasnumerouspoliticiansandpressrepresentatives.

ThisprojectwasoperatedbyaconsortiumconsistingofDorschInternationalConsultantsGmbHandIncoWest(Worms,Germany).

Theprojectservicescomprised,amongothers,theplanning,tender-ingandconstructionsupervisionfortheextensionworksofthewatersupplynetandthereductionofwaterloss.

IntheBavarianDWAfederalcon-ferenceonOctober26th20��Dr.Vestner,managingdirectorofDorschInternational,hasbeenelectedadviseroftheDWAboard.

TheGermanAssociationforWaterEconomy,SewageandWasteMan-agementrepresentstheexpertsofthefieldsofwaterandenvironment.Theassociationmainlydealswithtechnical-scientificissuesandtheeconomicandjuridicalconcernsofenvironmentprotection.

Precisely,thepoliticallyandeconomi-callyindependentassociationworksinthefieldsofwaterpollutioncon-trol,sewage,compoundshazardoustowaters,waste,waterengineering,hydraulicpower,hydrology,soilcon-servationandcontaminatedsites.

ThetaskoftheadvisoryboardoftheDWAfederalassociationistheconsultancyofthedirectoryofthefederalassociation.Together,theysetthecourseforthenationalworkoftheassociation.

Team Relay of the Berlin Water Authority, Germany

OnJune2�rd,twoBDCteamstookpartinthe�x�relayoftheBerlinwatercompaniesforthefirsttime.Ofcourse,wegavethecompetitorsapropergear.

Thisevent,whichisalreadyinits�2thyear,isbecomingmoreandmorepopularandhasalreadybecomethelargestrelayofGermany.Thethreeeventday,fromJune22ndtillJune24th,featured4,200teamswith2�,000runnersthisyear.

Oneteamconsistsof�participants;eachofthemrunsa�kmroundthroughthezoo.ThetrackliesintheNorthernpartofthezoo,theex-changezoneisSouthoftheGermanChancellorsOfficeonthesocalled“SculptureLawn(Skulpturenwiese)”.

Aftertheeffortstherewasorgan-izedanicepicnic,wherewediscussedmissedopportunitiesforabetterrange.

WecongratulateTeamB(Mr.Krüger,Mr.Schleusener,Mr.Franzen,Mr.Rimpler,Mr.Haas)onthevictoryoftheBDCinternalcompetitionwithatimeof2:06:�0aswellasthe�,���thrangeofthewholecompetition(of4,202teams,i.e.inthefirstthird).

OurnextvisitinBrazilwillgiveusthechancetopresentthefirstsolutionsofadraftconceptandtodiscusswiththelocalpartners.

Allthepreparationswerethenenjoyedtogetherduringtheverycelebrationintheevening.Startingfrom�pmcolleaguesandguestshadawonderfulmealtogetherandwerefascinatedbythepreviouslypreparedentertainmentprogram.

Hopefully,thisdaywillberemem-beredbyeveryoneasadayofgettingtoknoweachotherandofcommu-nicationenhancementbetweenthecolleaguesofallthedifferentbranchoffices.

TheLEEDbuildingcertificatesystemisastandardforhighvalueecologi-calbuildings,whicharealsohealthierandmoreprofitablethanconven-tionalbuildings.ItwasdevelopedbytheUSGBC(USGreenBuildingCouncil)servingthepublicgood.

Individualsystemsexistforthesinglemarketsegments;itdifferentiatesnotonlynewconstruction,existingstructureorrefurbishment,butalsousageslikeschools.Theaspectswhichareevaluatedaredifferent.

TheLEEDcertificationofabuildingisaneffectivepublicrepresentationofitsecologicalvalue.

DIArchitectureinWiesbadenisgoingtocooperatewithanAmericanarchi-tecture’sofficetogettheLeadershipinEnergyandEnvironmentalDesigncertificate(LEEDcertificate)forthenewconstructionofanAmericanhighschool.

ThiswillbethefirstprojectoftheAmericanschoolauthoritiesinEuropewithsuchacertificate.

TheLEEDcertificateisasystemfortheclassificationofecologicalconstruction,whichdefinesseveralstandardsforsustainedandecologi-calconstruction.

Theclassificationtakesplaceinfourqualitystages,whicharejudgedbypoints.��0pointscanbeobtainedintotal,whichisaplatinumcertificate(startingat80points).Agoldcertifi-cateissucceededwith60-79points,silverfrom�0to�9andthestatus“certified”requires40-49points.

TheendeavouredgoldcertificateforthenewconstructionoftheAmeri-canhighschoolfor8�0pupilswillbecarriedoutoverthewholeprojectperiodandwillalsoaccompanytheconstructionphase.

ThenewconstructionofthehighschoolarchitectonicallyrealizestheobjectivesoftheAmericanschoolauthoritiestoofferahighqualifiededucationforallhighschoolstu-dents.

Theconstructiontriestoemphasizetheimportanceofeducationbysig-nificantconstructionalcharacteristics.ThepublicviewshowsaschoolresemblingaGreekAgora,framedbybuildingsandpillars.Thestruc-turesaremainlytwo-storeyedandsurroundedwithaporticoandtheyrepresentthecentralhauntorschoolyard.Thewholepublicarea

ishandicappedaccessiblydesignedaccordingtotherecentArchitectureBarriersAct.

TheDIdepartmentscivilengineer-ing,technicalbuildinginfrastructure,structuralengineeringandinteriordesignareinvolvedintheplanningprocess.Theyareresponsibleforthebasicevaluation,thepreliminary,draftanddetaileddesignaswellasforthebillofquantitiesandthecostcalculations.

Thecertificateisnewforusandfortheclient,however,thusitcanbeusedasaverygoodreferenceforfutureprojectbids.

It’sadiversifiedentertainmentenvironmentfittedSplashParkwithrecreationalfacilitiesandeduca-tionaltoolsinanexcitinganduniqueplatforminspiredbythemagicofthevibrantseaworld,primarilytargetingchildrenandfamilies.

Amongstthemanychallengesthatareuniquetothisregionstemmingfromitsrapiddevelopmentpacearetheexceptionallytighttimesched-ulesandsignificantongoingvaria-tionsinprojectparameters.

Anotherundoubtedchallengewillbetheneedtomanagetheneedforsig-nificantdiversionsduetotheexistingheavytruckmovementswhichmustnotbemateriallyinterrupted.

Trafficstudy,analysisandprojectionswillalsobeanotherchallenge,giventhedearthofreliabledatacombinedwiththerapiddevelopmentsalreadymentionedcanresultinhighlyfluid,uncertainandvariabletrafficprojec-tions.

AfurthersignificantchallengewillbetheliaisonrequirementswithserviceandapprovalsauthoritiestoobtainNOC’s(NoObjectionCertificates).

Theprojectistobesplitintosev-eralphases,possiblythree,whichinitselfcanprovidechallengesduetoongoingchangesindemarcationandinterfaces.

TheprojectcallsforLifeCycleCoststoevaluatewithvariousalternatives–initialcostandmaintenancecosts:Engineering,construction,mainte-nance,operation,rehabilitationandsalvage.

Therelativelackofsuchreliablestatisticaldatacanturnthisexercisefromascienceintoanart.

Last,butnotleast,technicalchal-lengeswillbe:routedeterminationandselection,establishinggeotechni-cal/geologicalandsubsoilconditions,identificationofexistingservices,hydrologicalstudiesandtheenviron-mentalimpactstudy.

Nevertheless,itisalsosuchchalleng-esthatprovidethethrillindeliveringsuchprojects.

Accordinglyinanadmirablyshorttimethecountry,indeedtheworld,haswitnessedanexceptionalgrowthrateinitsroadnetwork,bothstrate-gicandsecondary.Inadditiontothenumerousroadnetworksthathavealreadybeenconstructed,aremanynewroadprojectsaroundthecoun-trythathavebeenidentifiedandplannedforthecountry’sprojectedfuturedevelopmentdemands.

AmongsttheseistheproposedroadprojecthighlightedinthiseditionofDorschGruppeIngSightMagazine.Itiswithconsiderablepride,andwithahugeeffortbytheRoadsDepartmentofDorschGruppeAbuDhabi,thatwehavewonfromamongstmanyhighlycompetitivebiddersfortheproject.

Wearetoprovidethedesignandconstructionsupervisionforthisproject,whichtakesplacefromtheNovember�st20��tillAugust�7th20��.ThetotalprojectcostwillbeAED�00million.

TheUAEisveryfortunateinitsgeo-graphicandgeologicallocationsoasbeendowedwithoil.Theleadershipofthenationhasinsightfullydirectedasignificantportionofthepetrodol-larwealthflowingfromthisresourcetofuelthemodernizationanddevel-opmentneedsofitsrapidlygrowingindigenouspopulation.

Oneoftheconsequencesofthisrapidandbreakneckpaceddevel-opmentistherequirement,indeednecessity,foranefficientinfrastruc-tureandroadtransportnetworkthatserveasthearteriesforthenation’sdevelopment.

Design of Al Jawazat Round- about Including Landscape Concept in Kuwait City, Kuwait

TheprestigiousKGLAgriculturalServicesandthePublicAuthorityofAgricultural&FishResourcesgaveustheopportunitytocontributetothebeautificationofKuwaitcityaccord-ingtoathoughtfulandcalculatedmasterplanwhosephase�includedtherecreationandrebuildingofthemostimportantareasforthecitizensandvisitors.Theprojectcomprisedoperation,maintenanceanddevelop-mentworks,extendableifrequiredinthefuture.Thetotaldurationwas�6months.Thescopeofworkinclud-edroadnetworks,streets,avenues,roundabouts,parksandopenareas.ThecostswereAED2�million.

Thebiggestchallengewastodealwiththescarcityofwaterintheregionandthetimescheduleoftheprogramgivenbytheclients.

Inadditiontothiswealsohadissueswiththewatertableandthequalityofthesoil.Byproperlyanalyzingalltheelementsofdifferentsideswewereabletoemploymodernsolu-tionsthatwehadalreadyimplement-edinthegulfregion.

Aftercarefulstudieswewereabletoputtogetheralistofbotani-calsolutionsavailableandsuitableforKuwaitregioncombinedwithmoderntechnologysuchassoiladdi-tive,subsurfaceirrigation,high-techirrigationandcontrolsystems.

Wemadeanefforttointegratethehistorical,geographical,demograph-icalandpoliticalelementsofKuwaitCityintoourdesignsaswellaslink-ingthemtotheexistingelements,servicesandthesavingsofallhealthyspecimens.

Thyssengascommissionedanewcom-pressorstationnearOchtrupintheyear20��.Thetwocompressorunitsaredrivenbyanelectricmotorcon-nectedbyaVoithVorecongearuniteach.ThistypeofgearboxisputintooperationinapipelinecompressorstationforthefirsttimeinEurope.

rotationnumberoftheelectricmo-torbyfrequencyconversion.AsthismethodhadnotbeenusedinEuropebefore,wehadtoprovideintensivetechnicalsurveys,evaluationofrefer-encesandacomparativelifecyclecostbill.Asaresult,theVoreconwasacceptedasequaltotheconverter.

ThelocalconstructiontookplaceonanarrangedfourhectareestateinJune2009.Theindispensableauthor-itypermissionsweregrantedintimebecauseofthegoodcooperationoftheprojectmanagement,theengi-neerandtheauthorities.Althoughweencounteredoperationalandweatherrelateddifficultiesinwinter,thecompressorstationwaslaunchedintimeforthetransmissionnetwork.

The“Südschiene�”(SouthTrack�)isa��kmsectionofanaturalgaspipe-lineinthefederalstateofKaernteninAustria.ThepipelinesectionbeginsinPichlingattheborderbetweenSteiermarkandKärntenandendsnearEbenthalinKärntenviaKlagen-furt.

Theexistingnaturalgaspipeline“Südleitung“withadiameterof�00mmwasputintooperationalreadyin�9�8.It’scapacitywillbenomoresufficientinforeseeablefuturetocoverthebottlenecksappearinginthemeantime.Thenewsegment

ofthenaturalgaspipelinehasadiameterof�00mm,theworkingpressurewillbe70barandwillcoverallcapacityneedintheyearstocome.

WiththeupcominglaunchoftheBerlinBrandenburgInternationalAirport(BER)in20�2,theexhibitioncentreanddisplayareasusedsofarforthebiennialBerlinAirShow(ILA)willnotbeavailableanymore.

Asaresult,anewStaticDisplayArea(SDA)willbeconstructedinthewesternpartoftheAirportnexttothefuturefairgrounds.TheStaticDisplayAreawillbeconnectedtotheAirport’staxiwaysystemviatheextensionoftaxiwayBandtheconstructionofnewstubtaxiwaysMandM�.

TheBerlinAirportsCompany(FlughafenBerlin-SchönefeldGmbH)awardedDorschInternationalCon-sultantsGmbHwiththeplanning,

FromJune20��tillSeptember20��Dorschhasacquirednumeroustrafficconstructionprojects.Wewereas-signedanewprojectbasedonatraf-ficanalysiswithanalternativesstudywehaddonesomeyearsago.ThisprojectconcernsanotheralternativeofthebypassTreburfortheprelimi-narydesignofthetrafficplant,thenoiseprotectionsurveyandanaircontaminationsurvey(MIuS).

TheassignmentwasduetoourgoodworkingqualityandthegoodrelationshiptothemunicipalityofTrebur.

TheCityofMainzassignedDorschthepreliminarydesignforthehandi-cappedaccessibleextensionof��busresp.tramstationsin2008.Theplanningwassuccessfullycompletedin20�0.

Astheclientwasverysatisfied,Dor-schwasalsoassignedthefollowupprojectforthedetaileddesignofthebusstationsinAugust20��.

FortheexternaldevelopmentoftheMönchhofareaare-designwasde-cidedforphase2till6oftheservicesastherewerechangesinthebasicprinciplesoftheexistingdetaileddesignandservicedescriptionofthetrafficplantandthedrainage.Atthebeginning,aturboroundaboutwithtwobypasseswasplanned.However,atrafficanalysisupdatedthesitua-tionandwehadtochangethede-signandthetenderingtoasignalledturboroundabout,atfirstwithoutlighting.Thus,theroundaboutcanbeupgradedwithoutmuchado.

FromthebeginningofAugust2009,DI’sdivisionTransportandInfra-structurehasbeeninchargeofthetunnel,bridgesandroadplanningofthesouthwesternsectionandalsooftheprovisionaltrafficrouteingintheprojectcrossroads-freeexten-sionoftheMittlererRing.Duringthewholeconstructionperiodthetraf-ficwillberoutedintwothree-trackroadsaroundthetunnelwhichis

Berta-von-Suttner-Strassestationbe-causeofamomentarystaffshortage.WegainedanothermajorplanningandconstructionsupervisionprojectwiththeCityofBonn.Theprojectconcernsamajorurbanrenewalofsewers.

Thefocusoftheproject“Europa-strasse”isontheplanningoftheconstructionsequenceandthetraf-ficphasesduringtheconstructionperiod,asapropertrafficflowhasbeguaranteedduringthewholeconstructionperiodduetotheurbanlocationofthestreetanditsimpor-tanceforthecity’straffic.

Wewerealsoaskedforsupplemen-taryengineeringservicesconcern-ingthetrafficroutingplansfortheMunichringroad“MittlererRing”Southwestbytheconstructionau-thorityoftheCityofMunich.

Four New Bridges for Friedrichs-dorf in Hessen, Germany

InadditiontotheexistingplanningcontractofthenewbypassroadFrie-drichsdorfL�0�7wewereassignedthedesignoffourbridgesaswaterductsofreinforcedconcretebytheASVFrankfurt.

Whenthetenderingstarted,theus-ageofAmcoThyssenprefabricatedsectionswasdiscussedasanalterna-tivetotheprefabricatedsectionsconcretesectionsbecauseofthecosts.DuringtheplanningperiodtheHes-sianAuthoritywouldnotacceptthissolution,butnow,theHessianTrafficAuthorityhasmadethisastandardsolution.Thus,wegainedafollowupcontractforthere-designofthefourbridgeswiththisnewsolution.

AfterintensiveacquisitionwiththeCityofKoblenz,wefinallyacceptedthebidfortwostructuresurveys.

TheworkswilltakeplaceinclosecooperationwiththeplanningofstructuralframeworkinWiesbaden.ThetwoexistingbulkworkswillbesurveyedinaccordancewithDIN�076.WeareveryhappythatwehaveenteredthissectorinWiesbaden.

Theministerexplainedthattheprojectofatotalvalueof€�4millionconsistsoftwophases;thefirstwhichwillwassignedtodayatavalueof€�.7millionandforaperiodof�6monthswhichconsistsoftheprepa-rationofstudies,designsandprepa-rationofthetenderdocumentsinadditiontothesupervisionofalltheprojectworks;andphasetwowithavalueof€�2.�millionfor24monthswillconsistcarryingoutthenecessaryconstructionworkandtoaccom-plishtheprojectgoals.Additional��monthsarescheduledforfollowingupandmonitoringtheeffects.

Mr.Jamaniaddedthattheprojectaimstorehabilitateandmodernizethemainandthesecondarywaternetworks,inadditiontothehousewaterconnectionswhichareinneed

ofrenovationaswellasdividingthewaternetworkstothedistribu-tiondistrictsandtosuitablepres-surizeddistrictswherethisdistrictwillbesuppliedbygravityratherthanpumpingwhichwillreducethepercentageofnotcalculatedleaks.Thiswillimprovethewatersupplyforthesedistrictsandreducethecostoftheusedenergy.

Theprojectisco-financedbytheKfWGermanDevelopmentBankwith80%or€70milliontogetherwiththeJordaniangovernmentofferingtheremaining20%whichis€�7.�million.

Thisprojectisbasedontheabilityoftheconsultancycompanyinchoos-ingthesuitablesolutionsandworkswhichwillinsurethewaterlossreductionforavalueof20%fromtheexistingpercentageforeachgovernorate.Thereforetheconsult-antshallstudyandevaluatethewaterlossreductionpercentageandshowthebenefitsgainedfromthisprojectafterprojectimplementation.

TheprojectshowsthedistinguishedrelationbetweentheHashemiteKingdomofJordanandthegovern-mentofGermany,bothtogetheraimingtoimprovetheenvironmentalandwatersituationinJordan.

BDC Improves Infrastructure of the Metropolitan Area Hamburg, Germany

Hamburgisadynamicallygrowingcity,andthesurroundings,theso-calledMetropolitanAreaisprofit-ingbythisdevelopment.However,thewholeareahastodealwiththegrowingtrafficvolume.

Thus,BDCissuccessfullycontribut-ingtotheplannedinfrastructuremeasures,whichwillimprovetheroadnetwork.Agoodexampleisthe“WesternBypassPinneberg”.

Inthe�970’sideasfortheimprove-mentofthemajorroadnetworkinPinnebergcameupforthefirsttime.Sincethen,atrafficdevelopmentplanhasbeenpreparedbasedonsurveysbyDorschConsultwhich,amongstotheritems,haveplannedawesternbypassforthetownofPinneberg.

TheofficeinHamburghasbeenworkingontheprojecteversinceandhassucceededinfinishingitsexecutionthisyear.

Inadditiontotheoverallplanningservicesthisprojectalsoincludedtopographicalsurveying,airpollutionsurveysandextensivenoiseprotec-tionsurveys.BDCaccompaniedthecustomerduringthedifficultprocessofofficialplanningapproval,withapprovalgivenin20�0.Inthecourseoftheyear20�0

BDCwasassignedthedetaileddesignforthetrafficfacilitiesincludingroadtrafficregulationsandsignpostingaswellasplanningservicesfor4bridges.

Reconstruction of a Combined Sewer in the City Centre of Rostock, Germany

Project

EURAWASSERNordGmbHhasbeentheoperatingcompanyofthewaste-waterplantoftheWarnowWaterandSewageBoardoftheHanseaticCityofRostockandoftheneighbour-ingcommunitiesforyearsandhaseversincefacedavarietyoftasks.

Oneofthecompany’smainfocusesisthereconstructionoftheurbandrainnetwork,andithasfoundanimportantpartnerfortheplanningandconstructionsurveillanceandtheexecutionoftheextensiveanddemandingreconstructionsworksinBDCDorschConsult.

IntheCityofRostocktheoldandhistoricalcityareasarepartlydrainedbyacombinedsystem,whichmeansthatthewastewaterandrainwa-terisdrainedinoneseweratthesametime.ThecombinedsewerinDoberanerStrasseislocatedinthecitycentreoftheHanseaticCityofRostockandprovidesthedrainageofwastewaterandrainwaterforagreatpartofthecitycentretowardsthesewageplant.Theexistingcollectiondrainwasbuiltin�9��asaboxsectionwithadryweatherchannel.

Asurveyshowedthatreconstructionisnecessarytoremedythedamagesatthecollectiondrainoveralengthofapprox.�40m.Otherwisethesta-bilitycouldnotbewarranted.

Design

Thisiswhyafastsolutionwasneces-sary.BDCwasthereforeassignedthedesignofthereconstructionwithUweWetzel(headofthedepartmentforsanitaryenvironmentalengineer-ing)astheprojectmanager.

Theplanningofreconstructionworksonasewerinapubliccitycentreareainvolvesavastamountofcriteriaanddiscontinuitieswhichmustbetakenintoaccount.Thisprojectcanbecon-sideredtheprimeexamplefordesignandworkswithhighlycomplicatedandspecialrequirements,fortheex-istingcombinedsewerislocatedun-deradouble-trackedtramlinewithahightrafficvolume:approx.everythreeminutesatramdrivesthroughDoberanerStrasse.Alongsidethehightrafficvolumethemainproblemwasalsothetightlyarrangeddisposalandsupplylinesbelowgroundwhichhadtobetakenintoaccountduringtheconstructionworks.

Itsoonbecameobviousthatatechni-callyandeconomicallysensiblesolu-tionhadtobefoundbasedonworks

ofdifferentcomplexengineeringareasandthereforeseveralareasofexpertiseoftheBDC.

Thus,thefollowingareaswerecom-pletelycoveredbyBDCbysettingupthefollowingprojectteams:• Sanitaryenvironmentalengineer-

ingwithexpertiseinreconstructionworks

• Trafficengineeringforroads• TrafficEngineeringforrailway

facilities• Trafficengineering• Constructionengineering

Reconstruction method

Toremedythedamageandtoensurethestabilityofthefacilitiesthedesignplannedareconstructioninashort-tube-liningmethod.

Forthismethodprefabricatedtubesareassembledintheexistingsewerandtheremainingspacebetweenthenewandtheexistingtubesisfilled.Thus,anewstabletubeinsidethetubeisbuilt.

Theprivateconnectionsarefastenedonafterthereconstructionworks.

ensureseweroperation.Thereforetheteamforsanitaryenvironmentalengineeringdesignedadeviationsys-temforthemaincollectoraswellasawastewatermainpumpingstationforupto�00litresofwastewaterpersecond.Thus,thereconstructionworksattheexistingsewercouldbeexecutedinadrysurrounding.

Aspublictransportoperationwastobeensured,itwasalsonecessarytofindasolutionwhichenabledade-viationofthetrackwithouttheneedforaveryexpensiverailreplacementtransport.

TheteamledbyWolfriedTredesucceededinfindingthiseconomicalmethodbyusingreversingswitches.Becauseofthelocationoftheconstructionpitnexttotheplannedtemporaldeviationtracks’prepara-tionandconstructionworksinthe9mdeepconstructionpitwerehighlydemanding,especiallybecausetheoperationofpublictransportwastobeensured.

Therefore,theteamconstructionengineeringledbyMarkusHeidencreatedaspecialsolutionwhichwasapprovedbytheinspectingstructuralengineeraswellasthesurveillanceauthority(theGermanFederalRail-wayAuthority).

ToensuretrafficandpublictransportoperationteamtrafficengineeringledbyKristianBock(headofdepart-ment)preparedanelaboraterouting,whichprovidedforthetrafficfacili-tiesaswellasfortheworksattheconstructionsite.

Additionally,oneoftheproject’smainchallengeswasthepreparationandthefollowingexecutionofaworkscheduleforallinterdependentworksofthedifferentdisciplinesin-volved(civilengineering,reconstruc-tion,catenaryconstructionandtrackconstruction).

Construction supervision

AfterallteamshadcompletedtheirindividualdesignsforasuccessfulexecutionoftheconstructionworksUweWetzelandFabianVolltookover,whowereinchargeoftheconstructionsupervision.Duringtheworkstheysucceededinalwaysensuringthehighestqualityintheworksinspiteofthechallengingcoordinationofalldifferentpartiesinvolved.

Becausetrafficoperationhadtobeensureditwasnecessarytoconstructthetrackdeviationaroundthecon-structionpitandtointerruptpublictransportoperationforaweekendduringconstructionandagainafter-wardsduringreconstructionofthedeviationtrack.

Ontheseweekendscivilengineering,trackconstructionandcatenarycon-structionwerepreciselycoordinatedsoastoensurepunctualconstructionworksandthuspunctualresumingofthepublictransportoperation.

InJuly20��thecombinedsewerinDoberanerStrassecouldbecom-pletedtolastthenext�0yearsonalengthof�40mafteraconstructionperiodofonlyapprox.fourmonths.
