Asbestos managementManaging asbestos is about the long-termdemonstration of compliance and that forms thebasis of the service we offer. Our team of qualifiedasbestos consultants (minimum P402), have been at the forefront of proactive asbestosmanagement in partnership with our customerssince before the 2004 regulatory changes.

We can also guarantee to give you anindependent view and impartial advice you can trust, as we do not offer any removal orremedial services.

Specific duties are placed on those responsible for running or occupying buildings, as well as onthose who remove asbestos. Having the rightsupport in place is therefore critical to both yourshort and long term management success.

The information you are required to hold must be up to date and available to anyone who maywork or disturb asbestos (or presumed asbestos)containing materials (ACMs). This means yourstrategy and your management systems must beactive and include regular reviews and conditionassessments. Training of all relevant personnel is another specific requirement and is theresponsibility of the duty holder.

Slaughter and May

Slaughter and May – thebusiness that believes incomplianceSlaughter and May is regarded as one of the most prestigious law firms in the world.They advise on high profile andgroundbreaking international transactionsand have an excellent and varied client listthat includes leading companies,organisations and governments.

In the beginning

Since 1992 a trusted partnership has beenestablished between Slaughter and May andAssurity Consulting. At that time Slaughterand May wanted reassurance that theircontractors were delivering on workplacelegal compliance. A tailored solution toaudit their buildings environments wasdeveloped by Assurity Consulting and thesupport began with independent workplaceenvironmental assessments (air quality,comfort conditions and water quality)across several of their London buildings.

The partnership continued when theyopened their new head office in 2002 and Assurity Consulting carried out furtherlegionella risk assessments and set up asite-specific water management system to help them demonstrate compliance in water management.

Moving forward

In 2008 Slaughter and May progressed theworking relationship and instructed AssurityConsulting to carry out a fire riskassessment.

We work with Queen’s College London toensure the school not only complies withlegal requirements but that it also offers asafe and healthy learning environment forpupils and employees.

The challenges posed by the school were complex as it is housed in severalGrade 2 listed buildings in Central London,however we were more than capable ofmeeting the requirements of such a unique environment.

Moving Forward
