What Do You Need to Incubate Business Startups?

Page 3: IncubatorWorks

Why?• We need to stimulate manufacturing in the Southern Tier• This will be the only manufacturing focused incubator in the

region!• We need to encourage well-paid skilled jobs that stay in the

area• But growth for small companies is difficult

– Lack of resources and support systems– Lack of right-sized, right-priced space– Access to programs

• Incubator tenants with access to support systems have a higher chance of success than non-incubator tenants

How?Incubator + Accelerator =

• Incubator– A flexible space where companies can grow their

business and then graduate, typically in 3-5 years• Accelerator– Provides resources to help companies grow• Access to State and other programs e.g. Start-Up NY,

Hot Spot• Mentoring, training, access to investors, entrepreneurs

in residence…

Page 5: IncubatorWorks

• Build on Southern Tier Start-Up Alliance– Programs, EIRS, existing relationships– Also access to Western NY Innovation Hot Spot

• Build on Hot Spot and STARTUP-NY links– Corning Community College, Alfred State College, Alfred

University • Build on collaboration with Chemung County and STEG
