U.S. Army recruiting officials are dusting off a 19-year-old program designed to guarantee young people help finding a job in the civilian world after their first term of service. Maj. Gen. Frank Muth, Commander of U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC), said recently that he was about to sign a deal with Bell to bring the major military helicopter manufacturer into the Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) program. The effort, launched in 2000, has agreements with about 800 companies to guarantee soldiers job interviews when they exit the service.

Army Recruiters' Newest Offer: Guaranteed Job-Hunting Help After ServiceStory by: Matthew Cox, Military.comEdited by: Gabby BonillaPhotos by: Lara Poirrier, USAREC Public Affairs Specialist, and Tim Orendain, Bell Sr. Communications Strategist, Global Communications

"I am a big advocate of it, and I have been pushing it hard," he said at a recent Association of the United States Army (AUSA) event. When young people enlist in the Army, they can have PaYS assistance in their contract, Muth said. "It's a drop-down menu; you click on the companies that you want to put into your contract and, after serving your first term and being honorably discharged, you are guaranteed five interviews," he explained. "It is a powerful tool to have to be able to walk in after four years of being an [AH-64] Apache helicopter hydraulics specialist, to be able to go to Bell and say, 'Could I apply for a job?'"

Army Recruiters' Newest Offer: Guaranteed Job-Hunting Help After Service(continued)

The defense industry, in particular, is looking to bring in younger people as many in its workforce near retirement age, Muth said. "The companies love this because what we give them is soft skills and, in many cases, hard skills -- this whole thing about maybe showing up to work on time or maybe coming back to work after lunch," he said. "Companies fight for this stuff all the time -- for the right attitude, wanting to win, being part of a team, communicating -- all of those things we provide, we give them."

Army recruiters have started placing a greater emphasis on making sure that Generation Z is aware of the wide range of skills it can offer young people. On Veterans Day, the Army launched its new marketing campaign, "What's Your Warrior?" which is intended to show young people that the service has many jobs besides infantry and other combat-arms specialties. The first chapter of the new campaign focuses on Army jobs in science and medicine; signal; cyber; and air and space specialties. The approach is a shift from last year's "Warriors Wanted" campaign, which featured soldiers from the 75th Ranger Regiment and other combat units training for war.

The Army PaYS team is very proud to call Lee Company a partner during this holiday season. In honor of their 75th anniversary, Lee Company is awarding $10,000 to 75 charities! The Lee Company is a three-generation family-owned business that services homes and businesses with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical solutions in Alabama and Tennessee. Regarding philanthropy, the company's mantra is "at Lee Company, giving back is not tied to a season, it's tied to our mission".

On December 9th, Lee Company representatives presented a $10,000 check to a local organization called African Leadership. African Leadership, based in Nashville, TN, is in 11 countries and collect funds to make an impact on those in need in Africa. They do this by providing clean water, uniforms and shoes for students to attend school, counseling and support for former sex workers, and job training in Ethiopia. As African Leadership continues to grow, the donation from Lee Company will positively impact a lot of lives.

Another recipient of Lee Company's generosity was Huntsville, AL Downtown Rescue Mission (DRM). DRM has been a place of refuge for the homeless community since 1975, providing a warm meal, safe place to stay, and hosting a variety of charity drives. While Downtown Rescue Mission was hosting Leadership Greater Huntsville (a poverty simulation that displayed the difficulties of being homeless), representatives from Lee Company surprised DRM with a $10,000 check! As Lee Company's mission is to create a place where people can thrive, they were more than excited to donate funds to Downtown Rescue Mission because of their passion to help those in need and to uplift the community.

December 13th, the Sean Karl Foundation was awarded a $10,000 check by Lee Company's Executive VP, Gerry Vance. The Sean KarlFoundation's goals are to defeat Ewing Sarcoma (a rare cancerous tumor that grows in bones) by raising funds for research, and to increase awareness for pediatric cancer research as a whole. With this generous donation by Lee Company, the Sean Karl Foundation is closer to reaching their goals.

Lee Company provides home and business services, however, they provide so much for their community and employees. As an active member in the community, they cooperate in a lot of community events and urge employees to volunteer. We are proud to have Lee Company as a PaYS Partner because they take the same spirit about community advancement towards their employees. As Lee Company provides their team with resources needed to succeed, such as free education at Lee Company University and partnerships with Army PaYSand Veterans Administration (VA) to assist transitioning Soldiers.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety, an Army PaYS Partner, is now accepting applications to join their team! They are currently searching for those interested in being a State Trooper or a Special Agent. Applications will open February 7th, 2020 and close March 29th, 2020. As a PaYSPartner, they know that PaYS Soldiers and Veterans are a perfect addition to their workforce. The Iowa Department of Public Safety is divided into five divisions: State Patrol, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Division of Narcotics Enforcement (DNE), Division of Intelligence (DOI), and State Fire Marshal.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety has a 10-step hiring process that is designed to test applicants and prove that they are perfect for the position. Those who fail any step will not be able to move forward, and are encouraged to reapply. Veterans and PaYS Soldiers should be familiar with parts of this process, as it is almost similar to enlisting in the U.S. Armed Forces. Recruits for the Iowa Department of Public Safety must pass a physical fitness assessment, a written exam, oral board interview, polygraph, psychological evaluation, medical examination, background investigation, and then a final offer is provided.

The last step of the Iowa Department of Public Safety hiring process is attending the 18-week Basic Training Academy. Recruits who accept the final offer receive a salary during Academy training. This course is conducted at Camp Dodge Army Base in Johnston, IA, which is the official headquarters of the Iowa National Guard. At the Academy, training materials, meals, and lodging are provided at no cost to the recruits during the week, and they have the freedom to return home on the weekends. Recruits spend 700-800 hours in classes, studying topics such as laws of arrest, search and seizure, arrest techniques, firearms, emergency management services, criminal law, and motor vehicle law, and more. After recruits graduate Basic Training Academy, they are then directed to complete their specialized training for the career that they picked. This can include additional field training, specialized courses, and advanced classes needed to be successful in your role.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety prides itself in providing the community with the best qualified team. With about 25% of their workforce being military Veterans, they highly value the experience and values that Veterans bring to their workforce. Applications will open February 7th, 2020 and close March 29th, 2020. Interview with a Star: Michael GregoryStory By: Gabby Bonilla

Michael Gregory is known for his roles and appearances in over 400 films, TV shows, and video games. Famous for his role as Dr. Rick Webber from daytime's General Hospital, Michael is also a U.S. Army Veteran. As an Army Veteran, he is very influential in the California Army community and an advocate for Army Veterans, especially for those interested in pursuing acting careers.

During the Vietnam War, Michael was attending San Francisco State University when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Michael served 2 years (1968-1970) at Fort Carson Colorado as a company clerk. After his service, he pursued a career in acting. Although he didn't continue his career in the U.S. Army, his time being drafted made him realize the importance of serving. "There are two things that I think are best about the military: it gives people discipline and it gets people out of their hood; whether their hood is Compton or Beverly Hills. It throws them together and gives them the opportunity to work with people they would have never met before."

Interview with a Star: Michael Gregory(continued)

Although Michael was drafted during the Vietnam Era, he didn't see any combat. He said, "For every one Soldier that is in thefight, there are 20 people behind that Soldier in support." With the new U.S. Army "What's Your Warrior" campaign, Michael says that this perfectly exemplifies the broad range of things you can do in the U.S. Army that are not just the stereotypical infantry and artillery. The new Army campaign showcases how diverse skillsets and talents come together to form a powerful team. The campaign also provides parents with a sense of ease, knowing that their children are able to serve our nation and continue to advance their education and careers.

Michael uses his influence as a way to advocate for Veterans and help the U.S. Army reach its recruiting goals. He speaks to audiences about benefits and opportunities that the U.S. Army provides to its Soldiers and their families. He works closely withthe Los Angeles "Rough Riders" Recruiting Battalion, Stars & Stripes Foundation, and with Joe Leal (founder of Vet Hunters). As a leader in his community, Michael understands the importance of the U.S. Army PaYS Program and has stated that any program that helps Soldiers and their families after transitioning is a program that he can get behind!

Army PaYS is ecstatic to feature the Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Battalion as the Battalion of the Month. Headquartered in New Jersey at the Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst, the Mid-Atlantic Battalion is responsible for U.S. Army recruiting in the State of New Jersey, the Philadelphia Metro, and Valley Forge region of Pennsylvania. LTC Brendan Toolan commands the battalion of 37 U.S. Army Recruiting Stations and over 270 Soldiers dedicated to providing strength to the Army while doing it with integrity. There was a lot happening across the Philadelphia Metro and New Jersey areas in December, and the Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Battalion was at the heart of it all. From their Annual Training Conference (ATC) in Atlantic City to Army Week in Philadelphia, Soldiers of the Mid-Atlantic Battalion exemplified leadership and professionalism every step of the way.

On December 6, 2019, the Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Battalion conducted their annual training conference. The event took place in Atlantic City, NJ and was one the limited times that the entire battalion had the opportunity to assemble this year. The three-day conference was full of networking, learning, resolving challenges, and celebrating success. The battalion recognized several individual Soldiers and teams for their accomplishments in the 4th quarter and the fiscal year 2019. "Winning Matters" was the theme of the conference, and it was also evident in the attitudes of the Mid-Atlantic Battalion's Soldiers.

Thursday night started the annual Florida Classic with a Welcome Reception at the Camping World Stadium. This VIP event featured presentations from FAMU and B-CU school Presidents, recognition and awards for stakeholders and honorees, and special remarks from U.S. Army Brigadier General (BG) Robert Edmonson. BG Edmondson is the Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief Information Officer for FORSCOM (G6). During his remarks, BG Edmondson spoke about his Army career. He told the audience that it's ok for our young generations to join the Army. There are many opportunities for them to excel. He is an example of what they can become.

Saturday afternoon, Samuel Armstrong attended the Committee Partner Meeting (CPM) hosted by Allie Braswell, Orlando's Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army (CASA). Hosted at the Orlando Police Department, the CPM's goal was to connect local partners with U.S. Army officials to better inform and unite the community as a whole. Mr. Allie Braswell introduced General Michael Garrett, Commander of FORSCOM, to the CPM. General Garrett spoke about the importance of the Army and community. He also addressed the CPM, encouraging them to influence youth to consider the Army as an option for a career. Along with ten African American U.S. Army General Officers (GOs), General Garrett fielded questions from the attendees at the CPM.

Once the General Officers arrived at the Camping World Stadium, they visited the U.S. Army static display. The GOs weren't shy, and interacted with Soldiers, Cadets, and the locals around the U.S. Army display. Each GO could be seen engaging with people in fruitful conversations. Some were sharing their Army story, talking about sports, or listening to Veterans stories.

Right before the game, the ten African American General Officers stood in the tunnel, waiting for their cue to take the field. The GOs would take the football field to honor our nation during the playing of the National Anthem. The time spent in the tunnel was not just waiting time, the GOs were busy taking pictures with Soldiers and anyone that asked them. Congresswomen Val Demings, Mayor Jerry Demings, and their granddaughter and WWE Wrestler Titus O'Neal did not want to miss this moment and also got their picture taken. When the moment finally arrived, there was a loud cheer in the stadium as the ten GOs walked on the field - what an extraordinary moment in time showcasing to the crowd U.S. Army Black Excellence. During the first break of the game, the ten GOs took to the field once again to present scholarship checks to Cadets from each University.

Griffin, whom is also a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves asks the U.S. Army Future Soldiers to raise their right hands and repeat the revered words, "I (state your name) do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United Sates against all enemies, foreign and domestic..."

The event aims at highlighting the dedication and willingness of these Future Soldiers in stepping forward to serve their country. The commitment to the United States of America, the President and the oath of adhering to all it encompasses, is one that takes true patriotism and courage from any civilian willing.

"I moved to Arkansas for a new start, to be focused, and start a new career. I originally wanted to join the military out of high school, but then I got a full ride scholarship to Southwest Baptist University" U.S. Army Specialist Julian Shade, Future Soldier originally from Dallas, Texas said. "I graduated college moved out here and then decided that using my college was just the beginning of a good opportunity to serve my country. I will drop my officer packet as soon as I get done with Advanced Individual Training (AIT) for Psychological Operations Specialist."

A swearing-in ceremony of this magnitude is a first for the recruiting companies and stations in Arkansas that make up the Oklahoma City Recruiting Battalion.

"With the holiday season in full-swing this event is a great reminder of the many freedoms we have as Americans, because men and women raised their right hand and took the oath to join the U.S. Armed Forces," Lt. Col. John Garcia, Battalion Commander, U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion - Oklahoma City said. "Our recruiters work tirelessly to recruit only the best and most qualifiedcandidates to join the U.S. Army and they do it with honor and integrity."
