The Separation: As you know by now, Tyco is splitting into three publicly traded companies later this year. Our new company, Fire and Security, under George Oliver has already been taking shape with the announcement of George’s leadership team as well as establishing clear vision and objectives. Tyco Security Products Wins Best of Show at Intersec! How to build an award-winning booth? The Tyco Security Products booth at the Intersec show in Dubai was a project that evolved from feedback received at past shows within the region. The idea was to strike a balance between increased product space, hospitality and quality. The challenge was keep the success of an upper deck from the previous year but increase the areas for product demonstrations. This was achieved by the use of curved walls instead of the traditional square and oblong structures; the curve, combined with the center circular column, drew the customers’ intrigue in that there was a distinct desire to see “what was around the corner” so to speak.

Another key element was the way in which light was used. So often, the use of spot and flood lights are both unsightly and emit a yellow glow rather than the desired white light. The use of both “Ice white” and RGB LEDs made the stand

inviting and portrayed the high quality we were looking for.

The final piece of the puzzle was to keep the quality regarding our graphics and signage; the acrylic panels and quality fittings, kept from previous shows, combined with the lights gave the stand the desired feel of quality and professionalism.

The show overall was a great success with lead generation exceeding the previous year by more than 30% and, more importantly, earning Tyco Security Products an enhanced reputation as the quality manufacturer.

This is the second such honor the MarCom team has achieved, the first being “Best of Show” at ISCW last year. What makes these recognitions even more remarkable is that they were achieved by two separate teams on different continents, working from the same strategy and visual guidelines proving our strategies work! ✦

VisonicFor the past six years, Visonic has joined with the Herzel Elementary School in Kiryat Gat city in a variety of community activities ranging from food donation programs to road caution training to career days.

Visonic recently visited first grade students at the school to celebrate Hanukah with a special holiday activity which included creating Hanukkah candlesticks and eating Sufganuit (doughnuts).✦

Founded 30 years ago, the Herzel School has been recognized by the Ministry of Education for the excellent atmosphere and activities of the students’ council. Hosting 356 students, 20% of whom are from Ethiopia and 26% from the former Soviet Union, the school offers unique music programs, providing the opportunity for students to study 7 different instruments in small groups such as: violin, mandolin, metal phones and drums.

The latest version (v4.1) of victor unified video management system offers an even more powerful feature set with a Command Center, virtual matrix, still image capture, and investigator mode. victor Command Center lets you create video walls to share video, events and other activity. ✦

Yammer– Tyco’sinternalsocialnetwork

Yammer is a private and secure enterprise social network for Fire & Security employees to connect, collaborate, and coordinate. Ultimately, it is here for you to access and use in the ways that best suit your needs and meet our organizational goals.

All of Tyco Security Solutions, except for ADT Residential, will be a part of the single instance of Yammer for Fire & Security. The platform plays a key foundational role as we transition to a standalone, public company. It will be the primary source for Fire & Security news and information.

Mark VanDover’s Yammer launch letter sent on February 1st contained links to ‘getting started’ materials, so I am going to focus on a few general components of Yammer. Those same materials and much more can be found in the Yammer How-To group. I also suggest “joining” the Fire & Security Today group so you don’t miss any news or info.

MY FEEDThe feed is your personalized nucleus of what is going on in the company. It displays all posts from any groups you “join”, any topics you “follow”, or any posts published or “liked” by those you “follow”. Cultivate your feed for relevancy - “follow” colleagues within your SBU as well as others who perform similar job functions, “unfollow” employees whose posts are not relevant to you, “hide” irrelevant conversations (posts), “follow” topics and “join” groups that reflect your industry, role, and personal interests.

GROUPSGroups can be focused around a topic, project, department,

or team. Browse the Groups Directory to see which groups you can join. Anyone can join a public group. Private groups (shown with a lock icon next to name) require a group admin to approve membership. If there’s a need, create a new one.

SEARCHType search terms into the field at top to see what’s been shared prior to asking questions. It’s also a way to discover Groups, People, & Topics to “follow”.

APPSThere are dozens of apps (polls, ideas, events, etc.) within Yammer to help organize, share, and discover. Sometimes it is easiest to just try them out to see how they work (create a private group with a few colleagues for testing so others aren’t subject to your experimentation.) You will also find information about the Yammer Desktop and Mobile applications in the Applications Directory.

DON’TBEINTIMIDATEDYammer is a robust collaboration and communication tool, but can be intimidating, especially to those who are new to social networking. Start by observing; notice how others are using the tool. As you gain a understanding, start posting questions, replies offering assistance, great ideas and constructive suggestions, updates on projects, interesting articles about trends or factors affecting the business, and useful information that’s relevant.

DON’TWAIT,JOINOURNETWORKTODAY!Visit www.yammer.com/tyco.com and enter your work email address. You’ll receive a confirmation email to activate your account. Accept the Usage Policy and you’re in! ✦

Momentum: Congratulations for being chosen as our Employee in the Spotlight! You’ve been singled out as someone who really goes above and beyond what’s expected. Can you tell us what you do for the organization?

RS: As a Business Development Manager, I am responsible for promoting, prospecting and supporting End Users, Consultants and Engineering Companies with TSP products. I work with the customer to recommend the ideal solution from TSP and then help to write technical specifications, and keep them up to date with our new releases. I am also always involved with customer-facing Trade Shows/Road Shows.

Momentum: Can you tell our readers a little bit about your role with Sports and Aviation Verticals?

RS: Brazil will host the 2 most important sports events in world – 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics. Tyco has a solid history with sports events, such the Olympics in Atlanta, Sidney and other events, and it’s very important that we continue this for the 2014 and 2016 events.

In this case, we are focused on promoting TSP solutions to the construction companies that are in charge of providing security solutions to the Venues and we are strongly engaged with Tyco Security Solutions as a team. In addition, we are approaching transportation companies since that market will be receiving a significant investment.

With a great support from the entire business development team, I have also been focused on the Aviation market. Due the upcoming sports events, some airports in Brazil will be remodeled and will demand an upgrade in their electronic security. As Tyco Security Products has an excellent footprint worldwide in the Aviation Vertical, we are promoting these references to be “copied”. We are doing a great job for the Sao Paulo International Airport offering a system with more than 900 IP Readers. In this case, I joined efforts with the integrator to write specifications for the bid and we hope to receive the order soon.

Momentum: Some have said that you don’t have time for fun because you work so much, but there must be some hobbies that you enjoy!

RS: Of course! I enjoy listing to Rock and Roll music and MPB (popular Brazilian music). I also very much enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Whenever possible, I love to travel to the countryside or beach and like to go to the gym or ride my bike. ✦

Momentum: Many have said you’re “one in a million”, but that doesn’t quite cut it from what I’ve heard. Can you give a little background?

PP: Believe it or not, I am ac-tually in Ripley’s “Believe It or Not”!IwasbornonJuly11th,mydadwasbornonJuly11thand my grandmother was bornonJuly11th.Ripley’srequired 3 certified birth certificates to authenticate the facts before they would print it. The probability of three generations being born on the same day is approximately 50 million to 1!

Momentum: This seems like a very fitting time for your SLT spotlight, given your focus on integrating the Visonic business into Tyco Security Products. Can you give our readers a snapshot of your role?

PP: To put it quite simply, my job is to connect talented people in our organization together to accomplish spe-cific business objectives. For example, the Visonic acquisi-tion presented an enormous opportunity for me to partner with employees in Tyco Security Products and Visonic to put together an integra-tion strategy that will deliver on our commitments to the board. The collaborative spirit that is prevalent in these two organizations is something

that I am so proud to be part of, and it really gives me tremendous optimism for the future of our business.

Momentum: Obviously the nature of your job calls for a lot of international travel and working some odd hours. Looking back, is this what you had planned for your career?

PP: To be honest, this is the job I always dreamed of hav-ing. I always envisioned the ideal position as something that combined education and travel and I have been so lucky to enjoy both of those things here at Tyco Security Products. I have been ex-tremely privileged to work in Tel Aviv with our Visonic team as well as with the dedicated group establishing our Cen-ters of Excellence in Banga-

lore and Shanghai. While in Shanghai, I was also given the tremendous opportunity to embrace one of my other pas-sions: teaching. I was invited to be a Guest Professor at The ShanghaiJiaoTongUniversity

(SJTU)whereIworkwiththestudents to provide some insight on what it takes to advance in a global corpora-tion. I’ve been lucky enough to be involved with similar programs at Penn State and NortheasternUniversity, andI’ve been thrilled to have students come up to me after sessions to tell me that they’ve decided to focus their studies on fire or security protection. There’s truly noth-ing more rewarding than being part of a program that really promises to shape our future leaders. ✦

Do you have a story to tell?

We need your help finding these great stories, so please send your

thoughts to [email protected].

It was just another cold Saturday in Minneapolis, or so Matt Trudeau of MultiTech Reps thought. Casually working around the house, he was surprised when he received an alert on his smart phone showing him a still photo of someone breaking into his downtown office! Integrated with the ADTVR embedded digital video recorder from American Dynamics, Trudeau had installed the mobile app for his customer demos, never really thinking he would have a real life opportunity to put it to the ultimate test!

But there it was, clear as day: a photo showing a man breaking through the front door of his office and stealing valuable equipment. Matt opened up the remote streaming video and provided the 911 dispatch play by play information on where and what the thief was up to including when he walked out of the building, and the make, model, and color of the vehicle he was starting to drive away in! His accounting was so accurate that, by the time Matt was driving into the office, he passed the police on the side of the road where they had pulled over the suspect.

With the truck full of stolen equipment and the video footage, the police certainly had ample evidence to prosecute and convict. But to make it even more solid, Matt showed them the piece of video showing the suspect putting his hand down on his office desk. This allowed the police to collect fingerprint evidence, bolstering an already ironclad case!

“The Minneapolis police are now using the video to train police officers and investigators on how criminals act in a crime scene,” said Trudeau. ✦
