Back by popular demand, once again this year, Mac Stopa brings his stylistic approach to the press office of Interni. In the Immaterial Dream Interni Press Office installation, Mac creates a futuristic dream world that springs from organic, three-dimensional and modular forms, experimenting with new materials and finishes applied to walls, floors and furniture. The installation features interior design using digital technology, creating a world of futuristic 3D geometries and patterns, furniture and finishes, some whose surfaces dematerialize. Some interior elements are custom designed by Mac Stopa, while others he designed for serial production and integrated them into the design of the installation.

In the design of the press office, Mac expresses his interpretation of the theme of the Material-Immaterial Interni exhibition by creating a virtual and immaterial dimension and challenging the physical perception of the space.

About the theme of the exhibition, Mac Stopa said: “Material-Immaterial, to me, means the freedom to dream about new textures, new shapes and technologies, where the technology inspires me to design new objects, and needs for new design fuels new technology. A great symbiosis between design, technology and creation materializes in the immaterial world.”

His design of the press office uses digital technology to create and manufacture new types of wall covering, carpet, reception desk, modular furniture, coffee bar and lamps, creating interiors with movement, deep textures and bold vibrant colors. By applying his 3D patterns on different materials and using different production technologies, combined with new geometries of his modular furniture, Mac brings visitors into a dream world of immaterial virtual reality.

Visitors to the press office are greeted in the blue room’s reception area at the reception desk made from mirrored glass with Mac’s Immaterial Dream 3D translucent mesh pattern, whose surface appears to dematerialize. The blue walls appear to be moving, an optical illusion created by the 3D tessellating pentagonal pattern on the wallpaper, one of several patterns in the Harmony in Motion wallpaper collection designed by Mac Stopa for A.S. Creation. Mac’s Immaterial Dream carpet pattern in blue color produced by M2 Carpets becomes a blend of colors before changing into yellow in the adjoining room, creating three-dimensional flooring resembling stretched polycarbonate mesh.

The yellow room is designated for work and integration. The entire space is furnished with Tauko chairs, Tauko modular tables and award-winning Tapa poufs, all designed by Mac Stopa for Nowy Styl Group. The tables and poufs are based on modularity and tessellating geometries, allowing users to change their functional layout on an as-needed basis. The Tapa pouf, winner of an ICONIC AWARD: Interior Innovation Best of Best 2017 for seating in the “Office and Workplace” category, is a modern solution for use in relaxation areas in offices as well as in public spaces. On the walls in the yellow room, there is a mix of 3D patterns from the Harmony in Motion collection including the pentagonal pattern in yellow color and a three-dimensional circular pattern in white color that covers the door and window frames, adding more movement and deep textures to the interiors.

The coffee bar in mirrored glass with a yellow translucent mesh pattern and the blue reception desk, both produced by Italian glass manufacturer Casali, create an amazing virtual reality effect of 3D mesh floating in the mirrored background. The Tauko bar stools are also designed by Mac Stopa for Nowy Styl Group. The press office is beautifully illuminated with Luceplan’s Hope chandelier and floor lighting and Lady Constanza lamps, as well as Immaterial Dream lamps with an organic shape and futuristic vibe designed by Mac Stopa.

During Milan Design Week (3 – 9 April) and throughout the following week (10 – 15 April), you may visit the installation at Università Degli Studi di Milano, via Festa del Perdono 7. For more information, contact: [email protected].

Mac Stopa is an award-winning architect and designer, whose work expands several design disciplines: architecture, interior design, industrial design, art, graphic design and fashion. He is founder of Massive Design, an award-winning architectural design firm specializing in corporate interiors for Fortune and Global 500 companies, designing public spaces, architecture and industrial design. Massive Design’s clients include, among others, Google, Samsung, BMW, Unilever, Pernod Ricard, Bacardi-Martini, Cargill, AstraZeneca, MasterCard, Credit Suisse, PwC and EY.

Mac is known for designing modern, innovative and functional interiors that reflect and enhance a company’s corporate image. His recent architectural works include the futuristic building housing the Genesis restaurant; and Art Walk, an award-winning open-air art gallery. They are both part of the Warsaw Spire office complex, for which Mac also designed all the buildings’ lobby interiors, including the Warsaw Spire “A” tower lobby with custom designed organic walls, doors and modular ceiling using GRG technology. He also designed the tower’s common areas, including the futuristic entrance to the Warsaw Spire tower elevators and elevator cabin interiors. In addition, several interior elements designed by Mac for serial production were used in the tower’s interiors, including, for flooring, the award-winning Star Maker quartz tiles he designed for Laminam, the Drum Collection of modular soft seating he designed for Cappellini and his Breaking Form modular carpet for Mohawk Group. The Warsaw Spire tower lobby interiors project received a Red Dot Design Award 2017. The Warsaw Spire complex received the Best Office & Business Development Award 2017 at MIPIM in Cannes, France. The Warsaw Spire complex was developed by Ghelamco, for whom Mac also designed the award-winning interiors of the Ghelamco Arena in Ghent, Belgium.

Mac has also designed products for A.S. Création, Bolon, DuPont™, Casali, Casamania, Italcementi, M2 Carpets, Milliken, Mosaico Digitale, NMC, Nowy Styl Group, Profim and Tonon, among others. Since 2013, Mac’s designs have received 66 international design awards, including multiple Red Dot Design Awards (among them, a Red Dot: Best of the Best 2016), GOOD DESIGN™ Awards, Interior Design Best of Year Awards, Interior Design HIP Awards, ICONIC AWARDS: Interior Innovation (among them, a Best of Best Award 2017) and an iF Award 2017, to name a few.

His designs emanate from his fascination with mathematics and geometry. His passion for modularity, sculptural shapes and digital art drive him to create modular objects for serial production that introduce innovation to the market and allow the user to interact with and adapt the objects to the required functionality of a space. Mac’s industrial designs, including furniture, lighting, flooring, fixtures, wall coverings, textiles and other products and finishes, are a hybrid of ideas, technologies and cultures, sometimes mixed in experimental ways. From furniture to apparel, to electric guitars, to building elevations, he often uses energizing bold colors and 3D graphics to design progressive objects that evoke positive emotions.

Mac also designed the Hybrid Collection table installation for DIFFA’s Dining by Design New York 2015 exhibition and several installations as part of Interni’s exhibitions during Milan Design Week, including FLOW (2012); Interni Hybrid Press Office and Parabola Collection (2013); Waves of Creativity Press Office (2015); Design Without Borders Press Office (2016); and Immaterial Dream Press Office (2017). Aesthetic and technological research, design culture, experimentation and innovation, a creative spirit never separated from functional quality and efficiency. This is the system of values that shapes the identity of Luceplan since its founding in 1978.

A long series of honors, from Italy and abroad, bear witness to the innovative force and excellence of a design brand that avoids any formalism, focusing on offering technologically evolved lighting fixtures for flexible use.

The Luceplan catalogue contains an extensive, versatile range of lighting fixtures, with high standards of performance and aesthetics, crossing fields of applications and adapting to any usage need, any context: products that combine functional quality with the decorative appeal of architecture for the home, from the small to the large scale.

Besides applying the most innovative technologies and materials, also by introducing solutions from other fields of research in the world of light, the experimental approach of the brand has been immediately translated, ahead to the times, into a focus on environmental issues and energy saving, through rationalization of production as a whole, from the idea to the assembly to the packaging, guaranteeing a correct life cycle for fixtures, all the way to their disposal.

Today Luceplan, updated to the cutting edge but also solidly rooted in a unique heritage of design and production experience, renews the entrepreneurial spirit of its origins, continuing the exploration of unprecedented technical, functional and aesthetic potentialities of light.

M2 CARPETS – we turn carpets into design objects like no one else. How do we achieve this? Simply by following our vision since 2012 which is to make carpet imaging just as flexible and expressive as printing on paper. At our plant in Nottuln / Germany we merge our knowledge of finishing textile flooring acquired over many decades with our cutting-edge expertise in the world of digital printing. In 2012, Maltzahn Carpet Innovation GmbH launched a fresh new brand – M2 CARPETS – and ushered in a new era of digital carpet imaging. A team of creatives with a knack for both technology and for thinking outside of the box laid the foundation for an approach to carpet printing that the world has never yet seen. In a development process spanning many years, we created our own carpet imaging process which has now achieved industrial type process stability.

Casali is a company based in Italy (Cesenatico), which in thirty years has mastered the art of shaping glass to give it new function and forms thanks to colours and designs. A genuine passion for this material has always identified Maurizio Casali, the creative soul of all the company’s output.

A love born at a very early age, as he himself recalls:

“I’ve always been fascinated by this eternally crystalline substance. I remember when I was a child I used to draw on the steamed-up windows in winter, completely absorbed in creating transparency upon transparency. What I love and still find remarkable about glass is that you can first pause at the image, and then penetrate its infinite transparency”.

So no longer just a way of separating and functionally passing between spaces, but an element of design that interprets the lifestyle and needs of whoever lives the glass at 360°.

A meeting point between creativity and technology, glass illuminates with light and colour, expands the space, embellishes with decoration and creates an atmosphere and a design unique.

The result of this continuous dialogue is a Casali stylistic definition recognizable over the time.

The entire development process of our products, from design to their realization, is characterized by the aid of the latest technologies to obtain quality and by a constant search of aesthetics also through the intensives collaborations with famous architects and designers.

In 2006, Casali starts an intensive collaboration with Daniele Merini, architect and designer from Studio Mark Associati in Milan, with whom he designed furniture and structures, using glass as a true protagonist in interior design.

Another extremely prolific collaboration was born in 2014 with the eclectic designer Mac Stopa: renowned for his innovative interiors, he is the founder of Massive Design, the multi-award-winning studio specialized in interior design.

The synergy between Casali high quality and Mac Stopa’s creativity gives rise to a new product line, the Hybrid Collection, which includes doors, solutions and furniture items distinguished by an innovative design based on the digitization of organic shapes, whose three-dimensional qualities go beyond the limits of glass, and bring new forms to life.

Casali’s Hybrid Collection receives four major awards in the Interior Design’s Best of Year Awards 2014, an international competition held in New York which for the last decade has recognized the best products.

In 2015, Casali and Mac Stopa’s Hybrid Collection win the Materials and Surfaces Category of the Red Dot Award, one of the biggest and most important international design competitions, held in Essen in Germany for over 60 years now. and now in its 60th edition.

The collection also receives four Honorable Mentions at the Interior Design’s Best of Year Awards 2015, with Mira Table and Clover, the new pattern for Mac Stopa’s Hybrid Collection, and two Honorable Mentions at the Interior Design’s Best of Year Awards 2016, with Pop Metal by Mac Stopa, a new series of unique and innovative doors and glass panels made with the combinations of mirrored or clear glass and sheet of brushed stainless steel finished in opaque lacquer. The modular organic geometry designed by Mac Stopa is laser cut in the stainless steel using the newest and most sophisticated cutting technology. The complex manufacturing process has been developed thanks to years of experience and Italian quality workmanship of Casali.

Massive Design is an award-winning architectural design firm specializing in corporate interior planning and design for Fortune and Global 500 companies, designing interiors for public spaces, architecture and industrial design.

Mac Stopa is Massive Design’s founder, chief architect and designer. Mac’s designs emanate from his fascination with mathematics and geometry. An award-winning architect and designer, his work expands several design disciplines, including architecture, interior design, industrial design, art, graphic design and fashion.

Massive Design is known for designing modern and innovative interiors that reflect and enhance a company’s corporate image and for designing interiors that are functional, comfortable and productive work environments, increasing a company’s appeal as “an employer of choice.” The firm’s architectural work includes the building housing the Genesis restaurant, a light metal structure in which the triangular mesh of the building’s roof and facade is fluently connected with large scale organic windows; and Art Walk, an open-air art gallery in the shape of a sixty meter organic modular wall. The Genesis restaurant and Art Walk are part of the Warsaw Spire office complex, for which Massive Design has provided nearly 100,000 sq. m. of interior planning and design services, including 25,000 sq. m. for its anchor tenant Samsung Electronic’s Research & Development Center.

Massive Design also designed all the buildings’ lobby interiors in the complex, including the Warsaw Spire “A” tower lobby with custom-designed organic walls, doors and modular ceiling using GRG technology. In addition, Massive Design designed the tower’s common areas, including the futuristic entrance to the Warsaw Spire tower elevators and the elevator cabin interiors. The Warsaw Spire tower lobby interiors project received a Red Dot Design Award 2017. The Warsaw Spire office complex received the Best Office & Business Development Award 2017 at MIPIM in Cannes, France. Other work includes the award-winning design of the interiors of the sports stadium, Ghelamco Arena, in Ghent, Belgium.

Mac’s passion for parametrically driven design, organic geometry, modularity, sculptural shapes and digital art drive him to create modular objects for serial production that introduce innovation to the market and allow the user to interact with and adapt the objects to the required functionality or character of a space. His industrial designs, including furniture, lighting, flooring, fixtures, wallcoverings, textiles and other products and finishes, are a hybrid of ideas, technologies, and cultures, sometimes mixed in experimental ways.
