Authenticity PrincipleAuthenticity Principle

• Systems should “feel” authentic for visitors. Therefore, – Notebook as “Web Viewer” (Image Display) is OK– Notebook as PACS or Modality is not OK

• No demonstrations on notebook LCDs (size, viewing angle)– If using a notebook, put notebook under table

and connect monitor and keyboard.


Best Effort PrincipleBest Effort Principle

• We will not be able to show all capabilities of all systems– We try to show as much as possible– More important is that the scenarios are interesting and

meaningful for our visitors.– Scenarios depend on the systems you have registered

• Actor imbalance– Typically we have too many actors of some types registered

and not enough actors of other types (e. g. more image managers than modalities)

– Will use different configurations (e.g. morning and afternoon)


IHE Booths are Non-CommercialIHE Booths are Non-Commercial

• Goal of the IHE demonstration is to communicate the idea of IHE, i. e.– “Dear customer, requesting IHE functionality

as part of your RFPs will make your life easier.”

• We don’t promote the individual systems shown on the booth, we don’t compare which system is “better” – On the IHE booth we are all collegues and good friends.

Competition can be seen in the commercial exhibition areas. – Please no commercial advertising material (pamphlets etc.)

on the IHE booth. – Please no commercial talks to potential customers.


Booth Set-upBooth Set-up

• We need details regarding size, weight, voltage and power consumption for all demo systems (especially if non-standard, i.e. 380V or very large/heavy)

• The following hardware needs to be “organised”:– LAN (switches, cabling, installation)– Radio microphones and loudspeakers– Light box for film printer– Photometer and densitometer for CPI calibration (vendors!)

• Insurance + transport is vendors’ own responsibility.


Set-up and TestingSet-up and Testing

• On the day before the demo we will set-up and test the booth.

• During the afternoon, we will perform test runs of the demo scenarios– It will not work immediately, expect a long evening!– We need competent staff on booth

• In the evening, on-booth training of the guides• Every evening we will have a short “de-briefing” when

the demo closes. Participation required!

• With the current registrations, no demonstration is possible.– We need at least one ADT, one Order Placer (which are both identical

to the Radiology domain, so plenty of systems exist!)

• If we find ADT and Order Placer, demonstration becomes possible:– Echo Workflow: all actors covered, 3 IM, 4 ID.

– Cardiac Cath Workflow: all actors covered, 2 IM, 2 ID

– Retrieve ECG for Display: three sources, one viewer.

System ConfigurationSystem Configuration

• As ususal, we will repeat the Connect-a-thon network and system configuration at the ESC demo. – identical host names, IP adresses, netmask– identical application entity titles, port numbers– do not change these settings after connect-a-thon!

• That means: You can shut down your system after the connect-a-thon and reboot at ESC with (almost) no change.

• No Internet or congress network access


Codes and Patient NamesCodes and Patient Names

• Code tables for OP, OF and Modalities:– New Order: HL7 Universal Service ID (1-3)– Procedure Scheduled: HL7 Universal Service ID (4-6)– Mapping HL7 / DICOM MWL: Action Item Codes

• Codes depend on demo scenarios and sample images. Therefore, they might change after the connect-a-thon.

• Please update system configuration before ESC. In the past, we always had actors waiting for tests to begin because some OP/OF systems were not ready.

• Schedule for guided tours– informal, as guests arrive– or at pre-announced fixed times?

• Again we need volunteers– users (ESC)– industry

• Any proposals on how to publish the tour schedule beyond posters on the booth?– Announcement in the congress bag?– Posters outside the exhibition hall?


Information DeskInformation Desk

• In past demos we always had an “information desk” that was permanently staffed with students– guests could request time of next tour– distribution of hand-outs– meeting point for guides and participants– first point of contact for people having specific questions

• There was only limited activity at this counter, but it might have been difficult not to have it– example: journalists looking for a booth representative

• Proposal is to retain the desk

PostersPosters

• Two types of posters: Generic posters on IHE integration profiles etc.– People can inform themselves on IHE– Guides can explain principles of integration statements at

the beginning of the tour

• One poster on top of each participating system– company logo and product name– position within integration profile(s)

• Proposals for improvements are welcome, contributions would be even more welcome!

• In previous German demos we had 3 hand-outs:– IHE Germany - Overview– IHE FAQ– IHE Participants (Connectathon result matrix)

• Content and layout was more or less “home made”.• Discussion item:

– is content OK or do we want more content• for example, Integration Statements

– is layout/appearance OK or should it look more “fancy”?– If any answer is yes, who can provide support?


Coffee and CateringCoffee and Catering

• At some of the previous demos we had a coffee machine, cold drinks (orange juice and the like), cookies.– enjoyed by booth staff and guests– no damage to hardware as far as I am aware of

• Needs somebody responsible to organise material• Somebody has to pay for the material


TombolaTombola

• In 2002 and 2003 we had a Tombola with nice gifts such as notebooks, DVD players, digital cameras etc., sponsored by the IHE participants.

• Prerequisite was that people had to correctly fill in a form that asked questions you could (only) answer after having read the IHE hand-outs or posters

• Experience was rather mixed. Few winners present while the gifts were given away. Mixed audience.
